I was in two minds whether to award three or four stars. The quality of the photography and what text there is, is very high. I found a lot of the book quite inspiring from an artistic point of view. However I found it all quite elitist - a great many people could not aspire to the kinds of furniture, antique or ethnic-inspired cupboards, designer furniture etc, shown here, either because they do not have enough money to buy or commission them, or haven't the time to source or create them. I'd also love to know where the owners of these posh pads keep their clothes: hardly any photos show wardrobes or other clothes storage, even the ones showing bedrooms! There is a whole chapter about cupboards, but they are all in living rooms or kitchens. I would like to have seen a few more pictures of interesting ways to deal with realities of life such as utility areas, and those wardrobes.Having said that, many of the ideas here could be adapted by people with sufficient time and/or money and creativity, so I went for four stars in the end. After all, a girl can dream...!

I actually liked this book less than the very similar garden book from the same author, but for some reason I can't bring myself to give it 1 star. The too-small pictures that seem adequate in the garden book are frustrating here. The interiors look dated (in a bad way), which is a trap the author avoided in the garden book because exteriors tend toward more classic designs, unlike most interiors, where trends move more rapidly. Many of these pictures look very Nineties. There's a whole other conversation there, but suffice to say, this book was a waste of time.

Basically a book of photographs grouped by subjects such as stairways, railings, kitchens, etc.., this book will be attractive to adventurous people who want to differentiate themselves from what all the other people are doing. Design styles range from very modern to European antique. No current design styles are included. While I found many of the photos very interesting, they would be difficult to reproduce without appropriate style homes and unique designed furniture, therefore I recommend this book only to those adventurous people who intend to built a unique home.

Great to see a big book of pictures that isn't a cookie-cutter photo spread of house and home magazines. Original homes, original photos, original styles. Great for seeing the possibilities and getting to know what you like yourself.

Very little text and tons of pictures of very interesting homes from traditional to modern. My favorite is the page with nothing but front doors on it! :: Think
