If you have ever dated or even married a loser, or had your heart stolen by a nutter, this is both a serious and light-hearted look at relationships and how to improve them. While the tone is in parts humorous, it is also deadly serious as it points to red flags women need to recognise in order to be safe. This book suggests practical ways to think and love in a healthy way, exploring alternative ways of seeing yourself in relationships, and giving women the power to be responsible for their own narrative. Caroline is such a witty, creative writer with such a delightful turn of phrase, you can't help but be both informed and entertained simultaneously.
It's said that most women fumble, flee or flow in love relationships. Sometimes, they experience all three as they tiptoe through the fires of love or grim ashes of ended relationships. This fabulously honest book by author Caroline Hurry, features abundant wisdom and wittiness. It's a must-read for any woman who has loved, lost and lived to tell the tale. I can almost guarantee you'll emerge wiser, braver and more enlightened about relationships after reading it!
I love this author and this book! In her own words: “FLOW is not another find a husband book … It’s more an outstretched hand to those who slipped on the treacherous rocks of romance … intended as a small rubber dinghy to carry you across choppy shark-infested seas …”
And Caroline Hurry more than follows through on her promise: her writing has insight and wit and the unique ability to enlighten and amuse us at the same time.I love her imagery, precisely bringing into focus the cast of characters she analyses on her way to educating her reader.
In Section 1 Hurry introduces us to her hilarious, but spot-on, Gallery of Rogues and their modus operandi. In Section 2 she asks the reader to decide which archetype best represents her: the Handmaiden, the Lady in Waiting or the Water Queen - and there’s even a quiz to help the reader decide. In Section 3 Hurry takes a deeper dive into the archetypes. Section 4 is all about relationships and how one should approach them.
A thoroughly entertaining book from the beginning to the hilarious lexicon at the end. While Hurry’s delivery is often comical, her subject matter and wisdom should be taken seriously. In fact I think this book should be on the compulsory reading list in high school. I highly recommend it for any woman seeking solace and empowerment, for men bent on self-improvement and for anyone looking for an amusing read.
Relationship wisdom delivered with brilliant with and sarcasm!
Flow: 21 secrets to refresh your relationships is for any woman who’s been burnt one time too many in dating or toxic relationships. Caroline Hurry, author of Reign: 16 secrets from 6 Queens to rule your world with clarity, connection & sovereignty, describes with brilliant wit and sarcasm such personality types as “Aspie Axel, Gaslighter Gary, and Narcissist Nick among 18 assorted catfish specimens."
Have you been a “Handmaiden” in the past, catering to your man’s every whim, ignoring red flags at the cost of your own needs, and folding yourself neatly up like origami to fit into his world? Despair not, because Hurry shows you how to transform through the intermediary stage of being a “Lady in waiting” to stepping fully into your most evolved “Water Queen” self. The Water Queen knows who she is and what she wants, and she won’t bend for a man’s sake. “She rules the waves by waiving the rules.”
Congratulations, Caroline Hurry, on another superb read!
Fun, Thought-provoking and thoroughly enjoyable The book was entertaining and made me think about the various men. I was left wondering whether Gaslighter Gary was worse than the Narcissistic Nick, but by the end of the Gallery of Rogues, I ended up thinking something else. Why was it important to understand any of the types of men? As the author rightly pointed out, finding the right person of who you are - from the handmaiden or the lady-in-waiting or the Water Queen was more important. And then deciding how to proceed from there. The flow and the lack of external validation was very well addressed in the book. The various relations and how to get through them was insightful and well put. Excellent prudent advice with some hilarious observations made the book thoroughly enjoyable. Lovely perspective in today's world for women to be themselves instead of analyzing the men and trying to change and be 'liked' by them. May the flow always be with all the women!
My dating days are over, so when I was asked to review Flow, I hesitated. When I ‘looked inside,’ I was hit by fireworks. Matisse-like verbal sketches… portraits…caricatures… oh the pen-womanship! Caroline Hurry is a virtuoso in the art of juggling words. Every sentence is polished to perfection. The collection of flawed lovers is priceless. For this alone, (and the key to dealing with them) Flow deserves a place on every author’s reference shelf... as a thesaurus. It is also self-help book and as such offers gems and insights, which I am still mulling over. I picked this one out. 'There is a hidden presence on this earth, a parasite that regards you as its ressource. It will continue to try and subsume you until you stand up, reclaim your sovereignty, and say no.' Great stuff! It was a privilege to review it.
This is "flow - 21 secrets to refresh your relationships, book 2 of hygge queen. I found this to be a pretty insightful book about how to refresh your relationships. Numerous examples are given so something is to apply to you and your situation. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
truly an eye opener to how the others live and date and relate
truly an eye opener to how the others live and date and relate. Not my world but the world around me frenemies and the what to the not! I am truly out of touch Far less so now

A fun take on today’s relationships (men really are the worst)
No man is safe in this witty book by journalist Caroline Hurry, which covers every snake move men are known for, and the many things they do wrong in relationships thanks to their sullen, narcissistic, and bumbling personalities. It took me a bit of time to wrap my head around what Hurry was conveying at the start, in the chapters “C’mon In” (The Water’s Fine) and “Welcome Aboard” (How Many in the Same Boat?). That’s probably because I’m one of the dim-witted dudes described on page 52. Just kidding. Sort of. As you might discern from the aforementioned chapter titles and subtitles, water is a key theme in Flow: 21 Secrets to Refresh Your Relationships.
The book is a mix of humor that people like me need to take with a grain of salt, along with a series of great life lessons for those patiently seeking a worthwhile romance. I like how Hurry divided women up into three relationship categories. (Which one are you?)
I do think many women (and some men) would get a kick out of this book and enjoy Hurry’s humor. Red flags to look for, deflecting important conversations, cheapskates, metrosexuals, devaluing feelings – it’s all here and so much more. Along the way there are helpful affirmations such as “I now take full responsibility for all my thoughts, words, and deeds.”
The “Lexicon” section at the end, with its modern-day acronyms and hip terms, was particularly helpful for this middle-aged guy who’s been married a while. As Billy Joel would say, “Rock and roll!”
Powerful Insights and Thought-provoking with a touch of comic relief
When I first picked up this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, after reading it cover to cover, I can confidently say that this book is a must-read for anyone seeking empowerment in their relationships.
Caroline Hurry's writing is easy to follow and engaging, and her descriptions of the various archetypes and rogues in the dating world had me laughing out loud as I recognized some of the people I've dated. But don't let the comical tone fool you - Hurry's insights are powerful and thought-provoking.
I appreciated that the book was direct and clear in its messaging, and I particularly enjoyed the sections on recognizing and repelling red flags, as well as transforming undesirable situations into more sparkly outcomes. The book is both educational and entertaining, with playful and witty language throughout.
But what sets "Flow" apart from other relationship books is its focus on the current of abundant love - hygge - and the importance of understanding oneself before seeking out a partner. The book encourages readers to build immunity to silver-tongued dialogue merchants, misogynists, and narcissists, and to create healthy, supportive relationships naturally.
Overall, I highly recommend "Flow" to anyone seeking to refresh their relationships and find empowerment in their love lives.
The cover for this book titled, “Flow: 21 Secrets to Refresh Your Relationship” by Caroline Hurry, depicts a woman with a headdress made of sea creatures and, I presume, seaweed. In the introduction, the author offers an explanation. She writes, in part: “FLOW is an outstretched hand helping you up from the slippery rocks of romance into a rubber dinghy to carry you across shark-filled seas to the shores of your innate magnificence.” One confusing bit: the subtitle on the cover is “Decode the Rogue: 18 Dating Archetypes. However, the book’s Amazon page lists the title/subtitle as follows: “Dating Secrets: Read Men Like a Book and FLOW through 21 Ways to Refresh Your Relationships (Sovereign Series).” This is an irreverent and comical take on dating, although much of the advice is sound. The writing is sparse, so this is a very quick read. The author has a unique and peculiar way with words. For example, a sample Archetype: “Hard Luck Harry, Irascible old rogue whose idea of a deep abdominal workout is trying his shoes.”
Reading "Flow 21 Secrets to Refresh Your Relationships" by Caroline Hurry" made me incredibly grateful for finding and marrying the love of my life in college over 30 years ago. He's the antithesis of the men described in this book, a testament that good ones are out there! So ladies, there is hope, I promise! As a relationship coach, I've heard dating horror stories, but Hurry's accounts of male offenders were particularly vivid. Her writing style, reminiscent of a concerned friend, was both insightful and entertaining, though perhaps a bit over-the-top for some.
While the book offers unique perspectives on dating, its focus on the "worst of men" might leave readers overly cautious and skeptical. The tone felt somewhat dark, which could be off-putting for those actively seeking love. Despite this, "Flow" provides a valuable, albeit somewhat cynical, look at modern dating dynamics. Oh, and I love the cover! It’s part of a series that I am curious about as well.
This book is as eye-opening as it is entertaining. I’m so happy I borrowed it through Kindle Unlimited! It’s like getting dating advice from an insightful, clever, and very funny best friend. This book isn’t just dating advice; it’s about loving yourself and getting out of your comfort zone.
I found the section on red flags to be particularly helpful–all seven of them were logical and laid out in a way that made so much sense. The descriptions of common specimens were often hilarious, but also very accurate to the modern dating world, with helpful tips on how to spot them.
The second section of the book has a very insightful quiz that will help you determine your archetype (handmaiden, lady-in-waiting, or water queen). Each archetype has its own detailed section with tailored advice.
Overall, I loved this unique approach to dating advice and will definitely seek out more of the Sovereign Series books!

𝑹𝒐𝒔𝒆'𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆: Flow is a very insightful and creative book put together to inspire women to take a pause and analyze their relationships or the men they are dating. I smiled, shook my head at some antics, and even laughed out loud at the scenarios presented. This book was totally a unique read and I must say it made me realize just how much I've grown as a person and woman. The questions and interactive chapter that made one ponder on what they would do in a scenario made me relate to some of the situations and how I would deal with them bringing me to the realization that I'm pretty much a "Water Queen". It was a wonderful read, a book I would recommend that all women take the time to read.
Flow: 21 Secrets To Refresh Your Relationships, by Caroline Hurry.
This was a refreshing, insightful read, where relationships are put under the microscope.
A tongue-in-cheek peek at the men in your life and how they can influence your life for good or for bad – but keep your boxing-gloves on and be ready to fight back at a moment’s notice.
Through the narratives of the six sparkling Queens you will learn how to spot that loser standing before you - or that rogue, liar, and cheat, who has done the dirty deed once too often. What kind of person are you? How do you see yourself - a downtrodden flower or a glorious prickly rose in full bloom? Find out how to navigate the sea of men and boost your self-esteem in the process.
A beautifully written book, buoyant, witty and highly entertaining.
Not usually much for the self-help set, but I am trying to expand my horizons of late. So fitting. Thus, if only just for kicks, I figured I would give this “self-help” guide a chance. See if there was anything here worth a read. And you know what, if it helps others than go for it. Short and to the point, it breaks down types of guys to avoid as well as steers you to respecting your own goals.
Included are questions/surveys to help you decide which of three types you fall into. Useful since it doesn’t just blame the guy, but asks the reader to look inward. Improvement starts at home and all that. As far as self-help/relationship advice goes, this is a helpful read. And there are no AI pictures either. Therefore I will bump a solid 4 up to a 5 simply because I am in a good mood.
This is a razor-sharp exploration of the world of modern dating with a light-hearted focus on wit. It’s an irreverent take that distils the chaos and cuts through the rubbish to segment it into digestible observations. And it’s strictly a man-free zone unless you blokey-blokes really want to get inside your woman’s head. This book, while being full-on girl-power, is great. It looks at dating pitfalls and segments our hook-ups and long-term relationships into archetypal personalities—we know these men. We do. They are relatable, uncomfortable, and unfortunately horribly accurate. Using humour, the book empowers women to control their romantic lives. It’s full of wisdom and sage advice.
I like that the eBook version has clickable links to navigate the sections. The unapologetic tone and focus on practical advice give it depth. It isn’t just a romp and gives us valid tips in every chapter. It makes readers evaluate their self-worth to sidestep toxic relationships and tackles serious topics head-on. However, on the flip side, it’s light and leaves readers laughing as they gain confidence. From first-date heartbreak to the complexities of long-term commitment, this book empowers.
This book goes into great detail as it describes how women can navigate the dating scene and how to tell the difference between different types of men. As a man myself this is quite eye opening and I am eager for my wife to read this to find out what a great catch I am! I recommend you take the quiz. I did and I am somewhere between lady in waiting and water queen. Although my one criticism on that is that I feel there should have been a fourth option for some of the questions. Very thought provoking and cleverly written. I will definitely read more from Caroline Hurry.
This is a must! I laughed out loud, related (shamefully) to all the ways NOT to relate, learned lots and have healthier relationships because of it. I left Flow lying around in the reception of my business and found clients with their noses in it, who cast longing glances at it when summoned fpr a meeting! Get the hard copy too!
The author has such a broad use of the English language, it disappoints that she drops in socially unacceptable four letter words to... What? Shock? I forgot that about this author. Her prose are so interesting... But moving on... It's a good book for examining your own life and making adjustments.
This is an excellent read. It gives insight into navigating relationships, and recognising the ones that are harmful to our wellbeing. I like the humour and the self-help advice. Another winner from the very talented Caroline Hurry.
The author has delivered some great advice that I believe will be helpful for both men and women in the dating world. I really enjoyed this humorous book.
This book is definitely backed by some humor. I really appreciated the insight on dating. I also love that the author clarifies that you know what’s best. It was overall a good read.
