R.T. Kendall has given us a treasure...the hope and possibility of experiencing incredible freedom and peace that can only come when we walk in total forgiveness. One of the core messages of the gospel is that of total forgiveness...not only that we can be totally forgiven by God, but also that we must, in turn, totally forgive others. Our culture is bound up in bitterness, resentment, and wallowing in wounds inflicted upon us by others, wounds that we all too easily accept and even cling to! This revised and updated best seller lovingly challenges believers to look within and root out those hidden and hardened places where subtle resentments and areas of un-forgiveness have been allowed to remain.
This was a beautiful book that helped me to understand forgiveness better, and I hope that those who read it will be able to find peace.
Forgiveness is something that I struggled and still struggle with at times, but this book changed my perspective on forgiveness. Forgiveness is a choice and a commitment that needs to be renewed over and over as a lifelong commitment. It's not a one-time thing because bitterness is a way to allow sin into your heart. Another piece to total forgiveness is about blessing those who hurt you - praying and asking God to let them off the hook and to bless them. I liked that the book asked if when you pray for blessings for those that hurt you, are you ready for God to take you seriously and to truly bless them.
It was interesting to hear the story about Joseph again even though I've heard it so many times. I often felt bad for Joseph and what his brothers did to him, but I never thought about it from the perspective that there was a reason that God allowed that to happen. God may have wanted to humble Joseph and to teach him temperance so that he would be able to be used by God later.
Finally, one thing the book emphasized is if you've forgiven someone, you shouldn't talk about what they've done to you. In a way, when you tell someone about it, you are trying to take matters into your own hand and "punish" them by making others think negatively about them.
I wish I had read this book earlier, but I guess it's never too late. The book was definitely inspired to me by God as I got the book's reference while reading another book, so I don't think that it was a coincidence. Everything happens for a reason, and God's guidance appears in mysterious ways. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking inner peace and reconciliation with others as well as with oneself. Thank you RT for making a huge impact on my life. God bless you 🙏
