Royal Pickle is book four in The Pickle Family series by J.J. Knight. This can be read as a complete stand alone as it is my very first book by J.J. And I have fallen in love!

Leopold “Leo” the Second, Prince of Avalonia, heir apparent to the throne, is twenty nine years old. His parents want him to marry and settle down in Avalonia. They had hoped he would find a wife and marry for love but when that didn’t happen, they told him they would find him some candidates. So Leo ran and he’s been having a grand time partying and spending time with plenty of women. But it’s while in New York running from the Paparazzi when Leo first meets her. She helps him to escape without asking anything from him which is exactly the opposite of what everyone else does. Everyone always wants something. He’s tired of running. He needs to find a wife and his mind goes right back to that deli and the beautiful woman who helped him.

Sunny Packwood had dreams of being a poet. But she’s pretty much given up on just about everything, college, writing, love. She works in her Grammy’s deli and lives alone in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn. Then her world is turned upside down when the cute man who she helped escape out the back earlier, comes back, claiming to be the prince of a small country, and asking her to become his wife, future queen of Avalonia. And the craziest part, the wedding will have to be in just seven days! To a man she has just met. Of course, she said yes!

Leo and Sunny have only seven days to figure out if they are compatible. But it is evident immediately that they share a crazy strong chemistry. And something funny happens to Leo when he’s with Sunny! He feels calmer, more peaceful. Sunny is herself with Leo. She doesn’t put on any airs. She’s smart! She’s beautiful! She’s sexy! And she challenges Leo! She fills his senses, is all he can think about. He will get Sunny to the alter because he realizes pretty quickly that she’s the one!

What a crazy, sweet, swoony, sexy, wild ride this book was. I loved every second of it. These two were just waiting to meet. It was destiny! And I am truly in love with Avalonia. I want to go there and walk the town square and look up at the castle in hopes of seeing the royal family! I also have to admit that during the last few chapters, my heart was beating pretty hard as these two figured things out. This was fast paced and I found myself flying through the pages.

I didn’t even realize there was another book out in this series, Leo’s younger sister, Octavia’s book is Royal Rebel. I am definitely reading it, especially because I’ll get to spend a little more time with Leo and Sunny!

One of my all-time favorite, supremely talented wordsmiths has done it again by taking the Pickleverse to aristocratic levels with this delightful romp into the fake dating trope and I’m pickled pink! Leo and Sunny own me completely, and I can’t wait for you to meet them.

Sunny Packwood is the cousin of our beloved Pickle brothers and works with Gammy Packwood at the Pickle Deli in New York. After closing one day, a handsome paparazzi-fleeing fugitive sneaks into the deli, ducking under a table away from the prying camera lenses. Assuming he has a good reason for dodging the paps, Sunny takes pity on him, giving him a hat to hide his face behind and sneaks him out the back door of the deli.

Prince Leopold of Avalonia has managed to lose his royal guards one time too many, the last of which resulted in his rooster-sporting speedo-clad, cucumber (*cough, cough*) becoming a sensationally big dill on the internet. (You can just imagine those comments!) If that's not bad enough, Prince Leo has himself in a real pickle. He either finds a bride of his own and marries her in seven days, or he's forced to return to Avalonia and wed one of the fair maidens handpicked by his royal parents. He's thinking the lovely Sunny may just be the one to help him out.

If I thought the story was great fun up until this point, well, I soon found the madcap mayhem had only begun. Sunny is out of her element in a castle in Avalonia, but she doesn’t let that change her. This girl – she holds her own and gives as good as she gets, endearing people to her at every turn. She relishes the chance to pour her heart into her poetry (Avalonians value all forms of art) and simply tolerates all the primping and fussing necessary for an imminent princess.

With ludicrous limericks, spare-heir sisters and laughing donkeys, this story effortlessly captures the reader's heart and carries her through to the delightful, satisfying conclusion. Endearingly witty and delightfully clever yet brimming with poignant heart, Leo and Sunny's story will take you through every emotion on a laugh-out-loud, touching, enchanting ride. Whether you like your pickles sweet, spicy, sour or dill, just one taste of this royal romance will have you begging for more. Step up to the counter, place your order, and dig in to this heartfelt, hilarious, exquisitely tasty story today!

Sunny Packwood, the cousin of the 3 Pickle/Packwood brothers has been a minor secondary character in a few of their stories. Sunny despite her name is a rather sad character as our story opens. At 28 years old she really has no life beyond working in her Grammy Alma’s Brooklynn deli and writing poetry and bawdy limericks in her notebooks which she shares with no one. She has no close male or female friends and isn’t particularly close to her older sister. She’s a sweet young woman but her quirky nature leaves her feeling like she doesn’t really fit in with anyone and only her beloved Grammy seems to see and accept her for who she is. Until one day a devastatingly handsome man rushes into her deli hounded by paparazzi close on his heels. The man is Leopold, Crown Prince of the small European country of Avalonia. Yeah, this definitely reads like a Hallmark movie with an X-rating.
Leopold who is soon to turn 30 has spent the past couple of years jet setting around the world, sewing his wild oats. He’s supposed to be searching for his true love match for a wife and future queen, but has basically been living a life of debauchery bringing negative publicity to himself, his family and his kingdom. His parents have had quite enough of his behavior and have determined to marry him off to a woman they feel suitable by his 30th birthday. Leopold’s only other option is to quickly find a woman of his choosing.
When Sunny helps him escape the paparazzi, refusing one’s offer to split a hefty payday for helping him get an exclusive picture of the Prince, displaying a depth of intelligence he hasn’t experienced in the vapid women he’d been bedding, he determines to propose to Sunny, offering her a future where she is free to spend her days writing her poetry and giving her a platform where she might share it with the world. Being married to an extremely handsome and charismatic man whose touch sends shockwaves through her body is an added bonus. Sunny accepts his wedding proposal with the proviso that she has the next 7 days to get to really know him and decide whether to go through with the marriage.
Thus begins the courtship of Sunny the born and raised Brooklynn deli worker and the Prince of Avalonia. A retelling of the Cinderella story with a sexy twist. With each passing day Leopold falls deeper and deeper in love with the enchanting Sunny. Sunny finds herself more and more attracted to Leopold the man. But having only had one disappointing sexual experience, she always worries that she isn’t enough to hold the Prince’s attention and once married he will return to his randy ways. Added to this is some palace intrigue as certain members of the royal family and staff are determined to push Leopold towards a more in their opinion suitable mate.
This is a fun, sexy rom.-com. with just a hint of angst to keep it interesting. The Sunny character was perfect as an insecure young woman who has given up on her dreams yet has a backbone of steel. Leopold was fun as the directionless, randy prince whose life is changed when he finds his perfect match. Yes, a cliché as it is, she makes him want to be a better man. The prince’s sisters were a nice addition as adoring siblings and Sunny's allies. Of course Grammy Alma was perfect as the family matriarch and Sunny’s champion. It was nice to see the Pickle brothers but it would have been nicer if their now wives actually got to actually be a little part of the book perhaps as Sunny’s friends.

Pickle cousin Sunny Packwood finds her prince in this new Pickle series book. Royal Pickle is absolutely charming!

Prince Leopold needs to find a bride or be forced to marry one of his father's choosing. He's been sleeping his way around Europe and America when he stumbles into the deli Sunny and Grammy Alma run in Brooklyn -- literally running from the paparazzi. He's smitten by Sunny, especially since she doesn't know who he is nor does she care. A few hours later, unable to forget the kindness she showed him, Leo thinks that Sunny can solve his problem and he proposes marriage.

The connection between Sunny and Leo is so great. I loved how these two got to know one another, and how they overcame the cultural differences. Especially when Leo takes American colloquialisms so literally. Their mutual attraction and fondness quickly grows into instalove. Go along for the ride as Sunny -- who feels stuck in her life -- travels to this small, little-known European country and gets the royal treatment as the prince's fiancee. Well, kinda. There is family drama since the King does not approve of the American his son has chosen, and a whole lot of misunderstanding that threatens to come between the bride and groom's royal wedding.

There are a few scenes with Sunny's cousins, the Pickle brothers, towards the end of the book when the wedding madness takes place. But the bulk of this story takes place at Leo's castle, so the supporting characters we get to know well are his sisters, Lilli and Octavia. I enjoyed those two girls so much, and really hope that this series gets a spinoff to include them!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

From the moment Prince Leopold literally lunged onto the first page, I was hooked. Sunny and Leopold are a study in contrasts, and Royal Pickle charms you from the moment they meet, through their unorthodox relationship, and leaves you laughing. Swoony, flirty, rom com fun!

This book had absolutely no business being this cute!

It’s giving Netflix/Hallmark rom-com but in the best way. I loved Sunny and Leo. Sunny’s Grammy and Leo’s sisters were also amazing.

I appreciate whoever it is was who originally recommended this book to me. I think it was a Tiktok video to be honest 😆 Either way, it needed up on my Amazon Kindle Wishlist somehow. Top it off with the fact I ended up scoring it for free on a random weekday, amazing 👏✨

I will say the third act breakup/miscommunication did annoy me a bit but it didn’t make me dislike Sunny and Leo so much as it made very irked with the King and his lackey for instigating the mess.

I think I’ll have to check out more from this author at some point.

If you’re looking for a fun, easy read with several dashes of spice 🌶️ and typical cinematic, royal hijinks this is for you.

Be prepared for wackiness throws logic out of the window a lot 😆

I'm a sucker for royalty rom-com, and this one did not disappoint. Sunny works in her family's deli in Brooklyn and Prince Leopold stumbles in, running from the paparazzi.

What ensues is a romance of convenience-- Leo needs a bride and Sunny needs an adventure. As expected a romance blossoms but with lots of fun and mayhem.

Funny

A playboy prince on the run from the paparazzi, ducks into a Brooklyn deli to find the love of his life. Sunny has been hiding from life in her grandmother’s deli ever since a professor and an ex belittled her. She’ll need to take a giant leap of faith to get her HEA.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone.

I've loved every last book in this series, but I have to say that Royal Pickle is at the very top as my favorite as I LOVED IT SO HARD! This story had a lot of royal fun with a side of pickles, and I never wanted it to end. Sunny is the cousin of the Pickle brothers, and she's super fun & can go teo to toe with anyone in her face that's for sure. Prince Leopold of Avalonia aka Leo, needs to marry a princess for love before he's stuck with whoever his family picks out, and he's put it off to the point he has a matter of days to accomplish it LOL! He comes face to face with Sunny when he's gone rogue from his guards, and the paps are chasing him. Sunny is a smart girl so she quickly takes charge of the situation to get him out of there without any the wiser. They have sparks flying like crazy, and the connection they have ends with her going to his small country to marry him. Of course she's an American, so the royal family isn't down with her marrying Leo but she goes toe to toe with them like nobody's business. I couldn't stop laughing cover to cover as this was a lot of fun to experience, and then there's the royal intrigue & heat in spades. I will be reading this story over & over again because it's that good & I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Yet another Top Pickle blue ribbon award. This book is a fairytale, with pickle relish. The humor abounds with laugh out loud prose, a little angst and a major amount of romance. A definite addition to your TBR list. Do not miss it.

honestly.

I had to return this book at roughly 20%. In an effort to make the prince seem “foreign” the author just made him come across dumb. Like intellectually lacking. It was a ridiculous 20% and I have no fear that I am missing out on the rest of the book.

Finding true love with a Prince

I’ve read several of the previous books about the Pickle family, and have loved each one. This one was great, about a simple deli worker finding her Prince. JJ Knight has done a wonderful job of writing about a couple so in love, that they defy all obstacles placed in front of them.
Leopold is Prince of Avalonia, but has run away to sow his wild oats, before he is forced to marry. He has met with some unscrupulous women, and has been all over the internet. He runs into Grammy’s deli, while hiding from the paparazzi, and Sunny helps him. Immediately he is enamored of her mind, and then her personality, and beauty. He returns to ask her to marry him, and talks her into it.
Sunny is a member of the Pickle family, and works at the deli, living a lonely, single life. She is surprised when Leopold asks for her hand, but she agrees to marry him. When she and Grammy go to pack her things, she has second thought, but eventually she goes with him to his home country.
While in Avalonia, Sunny meets with resistance, from the royal couple, and some of the guards. Her life is made difficult, but Leopold is always there to comfort her, by showing her how much he has fallen for her. The King forces Leopold to meet with the Princesses, that he had chosen for him, and Sunny experiences so many insecurities, and misunderstandings, she runs away, and meets her family at the airport. She tells them the whole story, about what she has been through, and they rally together, to help her. Sunny realizes that she never voiced her insecurities to Leopold, and returns to confront him. Meanwhile, Leopold has abandoned the Kings chosen Princess at the altar. With the help of his sisters, they escape, and he reunites with Sunny. The wedding finally happens in an unusual manner, and Leopold and Sunny finally reach their HEA. The books ends in a beautiful epilogue, and I highly recommend this book.

Sunny Packwood, cousin to Jace, Max & Anthony Pickle has worked with her Granmmy's deli in Brooklyn since she was a little kid. In her spare time she loves to write poetry and limericks. One day a gorgeous guy comes running in and goes into hiding from the paparazzi. Sunny helps him escape out the back door. She also finds out he is Prince Leopold, Prince of Avalonia. When the Prince surprisingly comes back he has a question for Sunny....would she do him the honor and be his bride. Oh, yeah....they would have to be married within seven days! After some consideration, Sunny agrees.

Sunny's life is currently in a whirlwind. Leo is trying to spend time convincing her they are good together, but others in the royal staff are making her doubt everything. Just when Sunny finally realizes that what she has with Leo is real, the forces to be end up ruining everything. By the time Sunny realizes what she really wants, she thinks she may be too late, but in a great twist, everything ends up just like it should have.

I just adored Leo. He was so fun and adorable. I loved the way he just knew there was a connection between him and Sunny. I really enjoyed Sunny too. She was a great partner for Leo. I loved how she was with his sisters too. Overall this was another great story in the laugh out loud series.

I so enjoyed this royal romp by J J Knight!

Sunny worked at her grandmothers deli store
in Brooklyn. One day, Sunny was working and Prince Leopold burst in, crawling on the floor, trying to find somewhere to hide. Sunny asked first who he was and why he needed to hide. He introduced himself as Prince Leopold and said the press was after him. She hid him in the bathroom and a second later, a paparazzi burst through the door looking for him. Sunny lies and says she hasn't seen him. After all the press is gone, Sunny gets the Prince out of the bathroom and sends him out of the back door with a company hat on his head and instructions to the subway. Sunny thinks she will never see the Prince again, but much to her surprise, the next evening when her and her grandma are closing the restaurant for the night, he pushes back into the door, turns around and locks it and smiles at Sunny. Grandma asks who he is and Sunny jumps in to tell her the story. Prince Leopold has a big ask of Sunny. At some point, Sunny's grandma weighs in. This puts Prince Leopold and Sunny on a fast paced road to love! Join them for the ups and downs. They definitely have chemistry if others in the kingdom would get out of the way! I loved this book so much and know you will too! I highly recommend this book and all the Pickle books! They're all a definite⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!

True love on a fast track

Sunny Packwood is the last of the unwed Pickle cousins. She is content running the deli with her Grammy Alma but years to write poetry. Prince Leopold is the playboy crown prince of a small European nation. While running from paparazzi, Leopold ends up in Sunny’s deli. Since Leoplold has to marry soon and he’s not excited about the potential brides his parents have chosen, he asks Sunny to be his bride. Now the couple is in a sprint to get to know each other and fall in love all in the seven days before the wedding. On the way to their HEA, Sunny and Leopold have to embrace that their feelings for each other are real, deal with their past issues, dodge some unwanted romantic advances, deal with family drama, and thwart conniving servants. Sunny and Leopold’s story has all the feels - expect to laugh, cry, cringe, hiss, and root for the main characters to admit their feelings and embrace all the love. Oh and the dirty limericks by Sunny are one of the best parts. I giggled over every one. I have loved the HEAs of the Pickle family and I am sorry the series is at the end but so happy to hear that Leopold’s sisters will be getting books.

Another great read

As with all the books in this Pickle World, the characters and storyline in this one is easy to enjoy.

This author consistently writes entertaining and addictive stories that make me laugh, and furiously flip pages, and this is no exception.

Sunny is absolutely adorable and Leo needs her just as much as she needs him. Their connection and chemistry is steamy! I enjoyed imagining Avalonia, and the "trade export" of the country. (I would soo love to see this place!) Their fight for their HEA was fun, frustrating, and entertaining... and I closed the book with a happy heart! Love when that happens!! 😀

This book is another example of the creativity and skill of this talented author.
If you haven't already read the other "Pickle" books, what are you waiting for?! Grab "Big Pickle" and get going!!

I cannot wait to see what O's story will be!!

Royal romance with a Marx Brothers spin? That’s not too far off the mark. A little fake relationship, a little ‘opposites attract’, even a little bit of an arranged marriage feeling. And it’s all spiced up with the signature Pickle shenanigans and snark. When Sunny agrees to Leo’s proposal, she thought she was just saving Leo from himself. Now they have just seven days to fall in love or Sunny could be the one in need of saving. I had so much fun with this book. I laughed at all their antics. And even though there’s a few palace staffers I’d like to see locked in a tower, I loved these characters. It’s just that the vindictive part of me wanted to see a little more justice served to the people that try to get between Leo and Sunny. I didn’t think the consequences were harsh enough for their crime. However, I’m hoping that I’ll get to see the fallout from those actions in the books for Leo’s sisters.

I enjoyed this pretty thoroughly. There were plenty of laughs, Sunny and Leo had palpable chemistry. There was also an appropriate amount of angst. Grammy had to be my favorite. Ready to take on anyone, anytime. The touches of spice were nice, tame but I think it fit. Now the parts I didn’t like. There were far too any villains in this. Some of the staff were nice but still didn’t really help anything. Literally an entire castles helping break their hearts kind of over did it. That leads to the fact that there was almost no real resolution to the problems. Did Leo and Sunny actually really talk about the other “brides”? No. Did Leo actually stand up to his parents about how they almost stole the love of his life away? No. Did any of his staff (mainly Rosenthal and Grisholm) apologize for how absolutely nasty they were to Sunny? No. That to me means the problems weren’t really solved, just kind of swept away which is not satisfying.

Just didn’t do it for me.

I just didn’t feel it with the characters. I mean it made me feel somethings and the writing was well done (minus a few errors not enough to make me stop reading) but the story felt rushed and I know it was a short period of time for a connection to form but I didn’t feel the connection at all it was like a two min encounter and bam relationship. A lot felt unfinished for me like what repercussions for the king and his guys, and seriously what kind of relationship can form after that with the father… it would have been better if he wasn’t involved in the nastiness and it was just the guys and some kind of punishment was enforced. I found myself skimming at the end just to finish so maybe I missed that but I don’t think I did. It was lacking and left me wanting.

HEA
Standalone, interconnected characters
No 4th wall breaks in this one :(

Leopold is the prince of an obscure European country who must marry in the next 7 days.
Sunny is a deli worker from Brooklyn who helps him hide from the paparazzi. She is a Pickle cousin (great books) who hides away in her own little world after heartbreak in college. She agrees to marry the prince, but there are other forces at work against them. When it gets to be too much, she walks away and he is put under guard to prevent him from going after her. How will they ever find out they love each other?
JJ's Pickle-verse books are great stories for readers over age 18, with each readable as standalone but interconnected. I miss the hilarity of the 4th wall breaks in the other Pickle-verse books, but the poetry and limericks in this books are great.

Pickle royalty

Sunny met Leopold AKA Leo at her grandmother's deli when he was trying to evade the press, not knowing who he was she helps him escape, let the good times roll and the high jinks, normal and royal, seven days for the wedding of a lifetime, commoner to be a princess and a prince, revisit with past Pickle clan, epic love story, unstuffing the stuffy high class snobs in the royal family, ohhhhhh I can't wait to see what happens next to the queen and king when they become grandparents, so funny laughing out loud, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you very much for the privilege, Dana Zamora

What a read!

When Sunny encountered a gorgeous man crawling on her deli's floor little did she know how her life was to change or how quickly. Leo has been partying his life away but after yet another scandal goes viral he's summoned home. Home is not just home, it's a castle because, surprise, he's a prince and now he needs a wife. Sunny is different from his usual play things but Leo charms her into accepting his proposal and off they fly to his country happily ever after, yeah no...Fun story as they get to know each other, plan a wedding, wonderful characters oh and heartbreak that comes together for a real HEA!

I liked it

Honestly there were so many things I loved about this book. They used the internet. They talked about their problems instead of running or pretending like they couldn’t use their voices because the author doesn’t know how to maintain suspense with normal conflict. But these were meant to be fully grown adults but they talked and behaved like they were high schoolers. Maybe the princesses since they were so sheltered but Sunny and Leo had been places. I would make this 4 1/2 stars but the immaturity took me out of a lot of things. I still would recommend the book. Just adjust their age to lower expectations maybe?

This was only my second book by J.J knight and I absolutely adored it.

It had me kicking my legs in the air and giggling because our boy Leo is fkn hilarious our little king of cock ( you’ll get it if you read it ;) ).

This book was funny, witty and all other possible synonyms to say funny, it’s an Insta-love that doesn’t feel like Insta-love because the whole book was through out 7 days and I quite loved how much of their day we got to see. I’ve been in a bit of a reading funk from all the same books and this definitely helped me get going again.

Highly recommend for a nice simple read.
