With the help of pictures and historical maps, the reader can follow the inner development of Jesus and his disciples and their role in society. Against the backdrop of the landscape of Galilee emerges the figure of Jesus the compassionate man.
A wonderful guide for those visiting Galilee (particularly as pilgrims) written by a Benedictine monk who at the time of writing had lived in Israel for 20 years and in Galilee for over 12. He has worked with other local experts and has been active as an archaeologist. Very nicely written, with useful maps, timelines and other graphics.
I bought this book in Israel over 30 years ago and finally read it for the first time. It is a treasure! And gave me a hunger to learn so much more about the covenanted land the Lord God gave to Israel thousands of years ago. I see certain portions of the gospel so differently now. I only wish the book had been longer. Reading about the Fifth Gospel was a tremendous blessing.
This is a beautiful book, purchased in Israel many years ago. The author has a deep and abiding interest and understanding of the places Jesus most likely lived and visited as well as the diverse Jewish cultures from which he emerged.
