This plant identification book is only for winter identification. It does an excellent job providing black and white illustrations of the winter remains of herbaceous plants for Northeastern United States. Each illustration is accompanied by a written paragraph that includes both the common and Latin names as well as a brief description of the plant and the locations in which it will be found. I especially enjoyed the glossary, which provides the definitions of several dozen technical terms used to describe plants. I highly recommend it.
If you are a weed or plant person, this is a good book to pick up. Nothing earth shattering, but it has a good forward and decent text about each plant listed. The author took the time to break out stuff by family and took some time to give reasonable descriptions and information for plants you may encounter after the green is gone.
This is an excellent reference if you - like me - have more time in winter than in summer for educational pursuits. I can identify any plant I find, from the key in this book.
