I love kind of Indian, because Curly (Chief Crazy Horse) protest and compassion this country, don't want be ruin. I wishes I was Indian so badly, because I feels like relative that such as my grandmother/father who Native american, but i was never met them before because grandmother/father adopt for my mother. My mother was Indian and red head. I thinks i some genetics race too.

History makes the best bedtime stories! This is an excellent book to get history conversations going and imaginations in youth. Crazy horse is a true leader and committed to his people and their traditions. He stood strong for his people(Sioux) through multiple invasions. Crazy horse was determined to not be removed from his land and placed on a reservation. In 1870's this was a challenging stand.
While there are some " spiced up" parts in this story, it holds many truths in the pages. I highly recommend this to early chapter reads or family readers. Adventure, truth, and lots to get the adventurous imagination going.

Concise story of Crazy Horses life, with lots of embellishments to make it a fun book for kids. It was interesting to read this after reading "The Heart of Everything That Is" because it takes place at the same time and it's a similar history with similar actors. But they're told from two different points of view (Crazy Horse and Red Cloud) and they're for two completely different audiences (kids and adults). Overall, I liked the book and appreciated the parts that were historically accurate, but some parts didn't hold up over time.

This was a fast read and a pretty interesting overview of Crazy Horse's life. History is always a little difficult to portray accurately for children for several reasons. It's usually necessary to make up scenes and dialogue from the main character's childhood because often there are often scant primary sources. Secondly, it seems that the main character is usually glorified and enemies are vilified. This book definitely falls into that category. Real history is rarely as black and white as it is in these biographies, but I still think it's a good introduction for a middle grade student.

The Story of Crazy Horse, is a very intriguing book about the incredible life of Crazy Horse. From the time Crazy Horse was a boy he had a hard life. When the whites move into the Indians land, lots of wars rage. But since Crazy Horse was wise like his father, he made a great leader and had many victory's of war. But when his people get tired of war what is the best option, thinking of his people or him?

I normally do not read things like this but this was a interesting tale of Crazy Horse I rarely watch or read anything about history. Crazy Horse himself is interesting to read about it was interesting to read how he came to be how he was by the end. The story of Crazy Horse was an interesting read there were details I had not read in a history it was an interesting read. So overall I liked this book a great look into a historic person.

We never regret these as a read aloud. The boys especially loved the battles etc. If you do not know how Crazy Horse’s life ends, I encourage you to read a bio on him also. Judson had tears in his eyes for several minutes and there was just a general somber tone when this story/life came to a close.
Great series.

Started off actually kinda strong considering it was published in the 60s but then kind of devolved into a decent amount of historical inaccuracies. The illustrations were pretty awesome though

I read this book in grade school and remember being fascinated by Crazy Horse's heroic rise to fame. After rereading this book as an adult I found it to have an absence of plot depth and character development. The conflict in the story is suitable for younger readers but lacks a solid climax and resolution.

I believe that Enid LaMonte Meadowcroft's biggest failure in this book is that it’s presented as a historical biography. The Story of Crazy Horse is laden with factual inaccuracies and cultural portrayals that, at the very least, present a fabricated fiction of foregone research which today would border on offensive stereotyping. Considering that it was written for children in the early 1950’s, with formatting typical of the era, I believe the discourteous prose can mostly be overlooked by mature readers because of its innocuous nature.

That being said, the immature language overshadows the serious complexities of war and atrocities against Native Americans. Although I do not believe it was the author’s intent, I found that her writing subtlety idolized revenge, glorified killing and racial hate. Perhaps this was the way the characters felt and the author wanted to portray those feelings; due to the lack of context and because the story is geared to entertain very young readers I find it misplaced.

Taken at face value, this book doesn't compare to today's modern stories for children but could still be a fun read for kids 10 and under. They will also enjoy William Reusswig's many fantastic pieces of artwork. Otherwise, The Story of Crazy Horse contained too shallow a story for most adults. I would suggest reading Crazy Horse: The Strange Man of the Oglalas instead for a more compelling and realistic account of the man and the period.

A book of its time with a simplified tale and interesting illustrations, with some fabrication to fill out the story. A fine base to go from to learn more about this period in history from other sources.

written in the fifties format with false information in some areas and and idealized version of events, making him a hero for his own people but not expressing the white opression
