There's a lot of great information in this textbook, but it's severely marred by typos and awkward layout. What should be great fun to read is instead much more work than it needs to be. This book is nicely supplemented by the Amazing World of Aviation documentary series, available on Amazon Prime.

While this book succeeds in covering a large topic, it is a pretty awful overview of aviation. It seems like its origin was a high school project. Aside from taking an interesting topic and making it dull beyond reason, this book has misspellings, formatting errors, factual errors, and overall I cannot believe I had to read this for a college class.

A much better book that goes over the same information that is contained in this book is: Flight-The Complete History by RG Grant

As a CAP cadet almost two decades ago, I studied the second edition of this text. I have now read the third as a senior member. This textbook is no doubt useful as a reference within a teaching context, as it is packed with information (a lot of it, admittedly, trivia in the form of inessential names, dates, and technical specifications), but as a comprehensive introduction to aerospace meant to stimulate and enrich the reader, it is both dated and flawed.

I really disliked this textbook, but I'm not sure if it was because of how much information I had to memorize for the tests, or because we only used tiny chunks out of 40-50 page chapters.

It was a relatively good read, in that some of the information was interesting. But there were a lot of times I was frustrated with incomplete sentences, misspelled words, contradicting facts or the answer key for the chapter tests which were incorrect.

If you really enjoy aerospace, this is the most in depth look you will ever find. But beware if you're using it for a college class/CAP. There is a LOT of information, and you should NOT rely on the tests in the back of the chapter.

Amazing review of Air and Space history. Used in education settings including high school and college courses as an intro to aerospace.
