Refreshing take on a familiar Bible lesson If you are familiar with the story of the nameless servant girl in Naaman's household, then you'll find this eight-day book of devotions refreshing. And if you're new to the story, then it serves as a great introduction to a lesser-known person in God's word. The study is set out in a Bible lesson, a fictionalised account of the young girl's reaction, an application for everyday life, and a personal prayer. It's easy to read, and the author provides great insight, and plenty to mull over when it comes to your own faith. She uses the King James version of the Bible for the scripture references, but you can use whichever version you are more comfortable with. Thank you, Mary Jane, for bringing the Bible to life in this way. I really enjoyed working my way through this booklet, and look forward to exploring the rest of the series.
I enjoyed this devotional. I liked that the scripture passages were actually printed in there, as opposed to the book just mentioning a reference for readers to look up on our own. When I read on my Kindle, it's much easier to have it all in one place and not have to try to go back and forth to find the passage it's talking about each day (though I would have preferred a more modern translation instead of the King James). It was fun how each entry included several parts: the scripture, an explanation of it, a fictional piece from a character's perspective, additional Bible verses on related topics, and a suggested prayer. I recommend this if you're looking for a short devotional book that might help you think of the story of Naaman and Elisha in a new way.
I really enjoyed walking this journey through the eyes of Naaman's little maid. Though I grew up learning about Elisha and the story of Naaman, I think I just had a rudimentary grasp of the "maid". It's amazing to me how she could suggest that her master go to see the "prophet of God" when he did not believe, yet. That Naaman took the word of his slave girl, packed up an entourage, and traveled far, was amazing enough. The events that occurred upon arrival truly show God's handiwork! I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
Brilliantly done. Has everything you need to read, contemplate, understand, apply, memorize and pray. A well presented way to make the Word real in your life now, and apply it. Love her style. Highly recommend it.
Like Naaman, we often think that it's all about us. Yet God in His love and mercy comes to our rescue. Naaman, had to obey the instructions given by Elisha in order to be healed. We must do the same. God's Word has all the instructions we need. It's up to us to follow them. We accept or we reject. It's our choice.
