Since I am new to Diabetes (I am prediabetic) I am so lost even after I talked to a dietitian. The few handouts I received was not good enough. So I have been searching for the right book to help me and I found it here! This book is a great book and I know its an older copy but for newbies like myself it has so much useful information. From the medicine, foods, exercise, etc. I think this would be a addition to any prediabetic or anyone with Diabetes bookshelf. Great refrence book to use whenever you have a questions.
I found this at my local used bookstore and it was a great find!
This book gives you a basic overview of healthy eating habits for people with diabetes I and 2. It shows how to create a healthy eating plan, meal planning, and how to achieve a healthy weight. It helps you how to control your diabetes. The advice comes from Mayo specialists who provide personal insight into various aspects of diabetes management.
Excellent and easy to grasp guidebook for understand and living with diabetes. There’s no judgement here it chest thumping being the most right. They are just trying to Help people live their best life. Treating people with dignity. Love it.
This book provides excellent and well rounded information for those who are newly diagnosed with diabetes. There is information for parents of children with diabetes as well. As someone who has lived with diabetes for around 40 years now, I still found some things helpful in the book. I read it to support some of my family members who are newly diagnosed with type two diabetes or prediabetes. The chapter on developing an eating plan is particularly helpful and has much easier suggestions to follow than the first book I read as a young woman. Then again, because of the concept of tight glucose control, the strict avoidance of sugar has been relaxed a bit in modern diabetes care.
This 2014 edition has lots of info on most aspects of diabetes including monitoring blood sugar, nutrition, medications, exercises, etc. It also has info for children with diabetes. Includes some recipes. This book still uses old nutrition info – i.e. don’t eat eggs because of cholesterol, half of daily calories should be from carbohydrates (even while admitting that carbs “have the greatest impact on your blood glucose.” P. 62). The authors seem unimpressed with either carb counting or glycemic index as tools to keep blood sugar low.
Very informative, easy-to-understand book. The book is written in sections which explain the disease, medications, diet, recipes and lifestyle choices. Vey helpful for someone with a new diagnosis.
