Like the first book in this series, this one is another less-than-realistic account of teens volunteering in a city hospital. Strangely, this was written by a different author than the first, but I didn't notice any change in the writing style. One of the big issues I have with these books is that there is far too much action in a narrow window of time and also that the role of the volunteers is overstated and not what a teen could expect if they volunteered in an ER.
That said, there are some good lessons imparted by the book. It touches on such issues as domestic violence, gang pressure, and making the most out of opportunities.
However, I feel that this series of books would be best as one volume rather than breaking it into many small novels.
