Time After Time

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper spins a tale of ageless love and the power of fate, in which dreams from the distant past imperil one woman’s search for a passion that transcends history.

They first met in a darkened loft, in the middle of a blackout, but the power of attraction supplied all the juice that Alex Bennet and Noah Thorne required. Noah was Alex’s match in every way, while the onetime lion tamer turned world-class interior designer possessed just the air of wildness that Noah preferred in a woman. Inexorably, they found themselves drawn together. So why was each haunted by dreams of the other that seemed to hint at secret lives in bygone times and places–and a relationship fated to end in separation? For Alex, the solution may lie in a Gypsy fortune-teller’s prophecy. To repeat the past is the one thing neither of them wants–but how do you overcome the pull of a destiny that is stronger than time itself?

Kay Hooper (aka Kay Robbins) was born in California, in an air force base hospital since her father was stationed there at the time. The family moved back to North Carolina shortly afterward, so she was raised and went to school there.

The oldest of three children, Kay has a brother two years younger and a sister seven years younger. Her father and brother are builders who own a highly respected construction company, and her mother worked for many years in personnel management before becoming Kay's personal assistant, a position she held until her untimely death in March 2002. Kay's sister Linda works as her Business Manager, Events Coordinator, and is playing a major role in the creation and operation of The Kay Hooper Foundation.

Kay graduated from East Rutherford High School and attended Isothermal Community College — where she quickly discovered that business classes did not in any way enthrall her. Switching to more involving courses such as history and literature, she also began to concentrate on writing, which had been a longtime interest. Very quickly hooked, she asked for a Christmas typewriter and began seriously working on her first novel. That book, a Regency romance titled Lady Thief, sold to Dell Publishing in 1980. She has since published more than 60 novels and four novellas.

Kay is single and lives in a very small town in North Carolina, not far from her father and siblings. Deigning to live with her are a flock of cats — Bonnie, Ginger, Oscar, Tuffy, Felix, Renny, and Isabel — of various personalities who all like sleeping on manuscripts and whatever research happens to be spread across Kay's desk. And living amongst the many felines are two cheerfully tolerant dogs, a shelter rescue, Bandit, who looks rather like a small sheepdog, and a Sheltie named Lizzie.

This is an old category romance by Ms Hooper which was recently re-printed. Ms Hooper has a definite style that you enjoy or not. In order to enjoy, I think you have to like the mystic, but also be reading to suspend disbelief a little. As with most Ms Hooper's books, I liked this one. I enjoyed the relationship between Noah and Alex, how it started and progressed and the clear affection between them. What's more, I loved the fact that Noah supported Alex with her secret. Speaking of the secret, at first, I thought it was stretching it a bit too much ^_^; Then, I remembered Christian the Lion and I realized that it was indeed possible :P

As for the mystical element, in Time After Time, Ms Hooper tackles reincarnation. I like the twist she put in, but I think it could have been a bigger part of the book. Overall, I enjoyed this book for the characters, relationship and animals (so cute!), but I think that it was a bit draggy in the middle and everything could have come together better. Still, I liked it :)

Since this is a book that has the theme of reincarnation, which has fascinated me since I was a girl and read Anya Setton's Green Darkness , I thought that maybe I'd give this a go. It was a simple love story with a much more gentle plot "problem" to overcome than many books have. Very gentle, almost as gentle as a toothless lion named Cal. I would have liked a little more depth to the past or a little more tension, or more detail as to how the animal control lady played into the backstories, but maybe that's in another Hooper book.

Time After Time

This is another winner. I love this author as she writes wonderful storylines and great characters. I love her mysteries and her love stories. She writes different series and I recommend all of them. I know once you read one of her books you will want to read them all. I highly recommend this author to everyone who loves mysteries and wonderful romances and ghosts. Diana Romano

A whimsical story about two fated lovers. Each of them dreams about two past lives where they met and loved before -- fragments of encounters, which seemed to end in pain and loss. I liked how that was woven into the main story. I liked how neither Noah nor Alex fought against the instant attraction, and I liked how unusual Alex is. I liked their banter and the use of lion tamer puns and metaphors.

"Životinja je stajala samo na korak od njega. Bila je žućkastosive boje i duga oko dva i po metra, teška sto osamdeset kilograma i to samih mišića. Noje je istog trenutka znao - strah mu je izoštrio čula, to je kasnije zaključio - da je to bio Kaliban. Zaista je Aleks zaboravila da mu kaže nešto važno u vezi sa svojim kućnim ljubimcem. Zaboravila je da mu kaže da je to bio lav :) "

Great book to read when you need a distraction from life. I loved how the previous lives were included for both characters. Bonus there is a lion in my he story.

I read this when I was in High School. I would love to read it again and see if it will still be as good as I remembered it. Kay Hopper was one of my fave authors.

An enjoyable, light quick read. Not a lot of depth or character development and I was left wanting more. Which isn't bad because I enjoyed the characters and the story, but there could have been more.
