After a much-needed makeover and an attitude adjustment, Gia is determined to make her sophomore year at Longfellow High unforgettable. She gets on the Hi-Steppers dance squad, makes new friends, and scores a date, but soon things go horribly wrong.
best book ever but you have to read this first then it is what it is the its all good then cool like that once it comes out (i already though my auntie published it
i really liked this book it was an alsome book i learned alot from this book not to date a boy thinking he likes you because your girlfriend tells him youre going to give it up
OOO-ooo! The hottest show in town is on the Hi-Steppers dance team at Longfellow High, and guess who just made the B squad? You got it, Gia Stokes! She is only the best choreographer on the team. She’s not popular enough yet to get on the A squad.
Mr. Football a.k.a. Romeo starts giving her the time, Gia wonders, is he for real? Romeo dates girls like Valerie, the head of the Hi-Steppers. So why did he all of a sudden, notice Gia?
Gia’s fly with her afro-puff and Tweety style, but she ain’t hangin’ with no guys romantically. Just Ricky, her best friend from forever.
Ricky’s so not hidin’ under acne anymore. Nope. Valerie, the head of the Hi-Steppers is suddenly feelin’ Ricky big time. But she better step of this piece; Ricky’s Gia’s best friend! Gia’s not jealous, it’s just that Ricky and Valerie? No way, she ain’t his boo. Gia even heard that Valerie dates more than one guy at the same time.
Sophomore year was just plain jane until try-outs for the Hi-Steppers. Now everything’s changing fast. Can Gia stay true to herself when she’s not invisible anymore?
One of the first books I really fell in love with in my late childhood / early teens and decided to check it out again, along with others in the series from my local library and it was a nice nostalgic read reminiscent of teenage life.
this was honestly adorable. corny but in that "this was written in 2009 for teenagers" kind of way. i liked the end more than anything. the character development was great and it had some pretty decent lessons in there.

Gia Stokes was the girl who had it all - attitude, personality and confidence. But what she didn't have was the clothes or the hair like most girls in her high school. An outcast on the Hi-Steppers, a dance squad, Gia is elected for a makeover. A few different clothes, some straightened hair and as her popularity began to rise, Romeo, a guy from the football team, asks her out on a date. Could things be any better?
However, her newfound friends and boyfriend are short-lived when she discovers that Romeo is after something. Betrayal is thick on the squad as she learns that Romeo wasn't acting alone. Luckily, Gia still has Ricky, her bff, her mom, even though she's evil, and God to see her through.
"Step to This" by Nikki Carter is an empowering story. Girls between the ages of 11-14 can use Gia as an example. No matter what you look like, never change for anyone or anything, because in the long run, your true friends will always be by your side.
Step to this was very entertaining and positive. I loved the characters and the fact that even though Gia and Hope had family problems at the end of the day they still pulled together. My favorite part of the book is when Gia and all the girls spend the night to Valerie's house and Hope gets kicked off the A-Squad and Gia takes her spot, so Hope gets really sad about that and starts telling Gia she wish they were never related and Gia gets really emotional about that. My favorite characters were Gia and Ricky. They were very close and had each other back like brothers and sisters, even though they had bumps in the road they still stuck together, i would recommend this to anyone.
I read this kind of a while ago, so I can't, like, pinpoint exact stuff to talk about, but I remember liking it despite the fact that it was pretty cheesy at times, but with a book called Step To This you know you're going into something cheesy & you just get over it & read it & shut up.
But it did have a good meaning/message that is worth reading for.
& honestly it was kinda cheesy in a funny way, so that's alright, I guess.
Although I read it a while ago, I DO vividly remember the "Clammy Hands Kevin" thing, & that still makes me laugh shamelessly.
im really like this book when im not doing anything i dont wanna put it down. Its aboyt a girl name Gia who dosent really fit in because her clothes and hair just dont make her popular like the other girls but thats when she proves that she can be a hi-stepper and her cousin Hope might be embrassing her self along.
Facebook reminded me that I read this book about six years ago and how much I loved it. I recommended it to my friends on Facebook which is something that I do not do often. I remember reading the other books in the series as well and wishing that the series was longer.
