This one was a good one but I did have trouble liking Alistair. When you first meet him he was cocky and alittle araggont to me when he talked to Nola and their first meeting it felt cold to me. Atleast in my eyes, Nola fall fast so I respected She didn't wanna work for him she didn't wanna be in the same space when he didn't "want anything" at the time.
He wanted her, and he made sure she knew this was strictly beneficial. But the more time he spent showing her how fun toys can be, he wanted more. Even with him being her boss. I'm glad she made him work for it.
Plus, him being a daddy lordddd!! Eva knows stuff to my heart, hehe.

I first saw this book in my feed with my previous page on the gram and knew I needed to read it. An Adult sex toy store in the background. Hello, dream job.
So when the dust settled, I dove right in. The insta connection between Alistair and Nola is off the charts. I was worried about Nola’s innocence since it can make or break a book for me. Rest assured, I tremendously enjoyed her character. More so than Alistair.
From the start, I saw myself falling in love with Alistair. He is experienced, assertive, handsome alpha, and with demons. He really has such great potential. When he finally shifted gears, I had difficulty connecting with him.
If you're looking for a book with a full-steam head. Toy Shop is for you. I am excited to read the next book in the series.

I was in a silly goofy mood okay?
Other than that, the characters were cute and likeable enough. The story is a bit more fast paced than I would like, but it's good enough for me to look past it.
What I couldn't look past, though, was the grammar. I don't know if it was just a me thing but with every other sentence I felt like I was having a stroke and had to read it several times over to get what it was supposed to mean.

The pace was amazing, slowly learning little bits about each character. Giving us a little angst along the way. Watching Alistair change throughout the pages was mindblowing. What I thought id get from his character in this book was nothing to what we’re given.
Eva Marks’ previous novellas - the little blue duet, I adored. I loved Hudson completely. But Alistair has definitely taken the book boyfriend role from him. He made me feel a whole kaleidoscope of emotions 🤍

Toy Shop is an erotic novella, at just over 200 pages long. I vacillated between giving this book 3 or 4 stars, considering I couldn’t rate it 3.5. In the end a 4 star rating won largely because I was hooked until I read it to the end and I am intrigued enough to read more by this author. I also had to put aside my own preferences (Daddy kink is not “my thing”) and rate the book on its own merits.
In Toy Shop the protagonists are Nola and Alistair. Nola works at a sex shop, but she does have some ethical issues with regards to certain aspects of the shop, and would one day like to open her own sex shop. Alistair is a confident, wealthy businessman, who started off and built his wildly successful business from his parents’ garage.
If you enjoy an age gap this book will not disappoint, with Nola being 21 and Alistair who is double her age. “Twenty-one is old enough to drink, meaning she’s old enough to play.”
Nola first meets Alistair under another name, and it is refreshing for Alistair, that Nola is unaware of who he actually is, which assures him that she likes him for himself and not for his wealth and success. “Once money’s involved, the seed of doubt is forever there.” They both have some issues from their past. If you are looking for a hot, quick read, with elements of BDSM and kinks (especially Daddy kink), this book will not disappoint. This book does not end on a cliffhanger, but I see that Nola and Alistair’s story will continue in A New Year’s Toy (Adult Games #2), coming in December 2022.

3.5 ⭐️ This was a lot of fun; low stakes in the tragic backstories, plenty of exploration, dirty talk, and of course toys. Characters were well fleshed out for a novella!
I always like seeing this acknowledged in books when discussing alt lifestyles and kïñk preferences and how it correlates to past trauma:
“This is a place where you’ll be built back anew and give your traumas such a sonorous fuck you, they’ll run right to the hole they crept out of.”
I’ll definitely be reaching for Eva Marks when I need something filthy, with just enough plot and low stakes. Recommend!!!

From the very beginning, I absolutely love both of the main characters! I cannot express how much I love a strong willed fmc. The story is absolute filth, and I love it 🥰. How can a story be sweet & heart warming but so spicy 🌶️.I can’t wait to read more from this author.

March 16, 2024I got it in the stuff your kindle day. This book is mostly smut😂, another guilty pleasure of a book really. It has DD/BG kink, age gap (too much for my liking but it gives you what you are looking in a book like this, 😏, you know)
I thought her trauma would be more traumatic, this quite of gave me a disliking for the girl. I know that not everyone can be strong female character, but denied yourself some things for the opinion of a jerk... I can't with those things

loved this novella. Eva always does amazing things with her writing and the way she incorporates different dynamics in it.
loved the age gap, loved the "touch her die" vibe, loved the kinks and loved how hands on he was.
the arrangement is awesome and nola is such a strong character.
i sense hints of dark romance in there which put it over the top for me.
happiness is in the heart of this book and i love how the characters grow in such a short story.

Good lord this book was HOT! It starts off with the spice super early like page 35 early. There is great character development, great writing, and a great story line. I really loved how even though Nola was so much younger than Alistair he didn't treat her like a child.
I really liked how when Nola found out Alistair was the CEO of the company she was going to interview for she cancelled her interview. Even though they asked her to still come in she refused the job offer. She also refused any financial help from Alistair to help her create her own business.
There was no 3rd act break up and I'm soo thankful for that! Over all if your looking for a hot short read this is a highly recommended one from me.

Alistair and Nola holy wow! This book was phenomenal I love how they started out as in time thing, him teaching her how to play with toys, but turned out to them being meant for each other. This poor damaged man thinking he didn’t deserve love because if an accident that was not his fault and Nola who past was just a as sad making her not want to explore sex. Their sadomasochistic dynamic was so very intense and the scenes were amazing. I loved this book and didn’t want to put it down I’m so glad they found each other and found what they both needed in each other.

Wow! I loved every minute of this novella! Perfect read for a Saturday when you can fantasize away. Ali stair is a dream man and I love how Nola is represented as such a strong woman! These two had something to learn, and oh boy, was it hot to watch it unfold.
Alistair helped Nola explore her sexual desires, and Nola helped Alistair learn to trust and love again.
The spice in Toy Shop was everything I needed & more; it was chef's kiss.
Eva is knocking these novellas out of the park. I can't wait to read what she writes next.

(ARC REVIEW)
The title itself explains the theme of this book. Within the first couple of chapters I knew I wanted Alistair to be my teacher while I was his student. That man I'm sure could teach me a few things. I would have walked in Nola's shoes any day of the week. Nola got her education and more from Alistair. This couple was simply spectacular. This is a must-read and while reading make sure you have ice water close yes it's that good. I can't wait to see what the next one brings. Please read the trigger warnings.

Nola makes a phone call that changes her, and she meets Alistair. They both aren’t looking for any type of relationship, but the chemistry between is explosive. Will they burn or fade out? Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended Amazing book. I absolutely love Nola and Alistair. She is so funny and innocent to his world, and he is sexy and broody. I love the supporting characters. This is a short and spicy book. This is my first book by this author definitely not my last

What a bust, but it had so much potential.

I couldn't bear the plot having so many holes and skipping so much from one scene to the other.
It has its potential, but something didn't fall through. 🤔
“This.” He pulls back, shoving himself deep down my throat. I gag, breathe, get another inch in. Alistair returns to grasp the back of my neck, securing me in place. “Your tears, your pain. I. Own. Them. I’m your Daddy, your teacher, your everything.”
Alstair going from a teacher of some kind to a daddy so quickly. It was weird at best.
“My good little student.” Alistair’s palm cups me beneath my chin, compelling me to stare into his eyes.
It did make me laugh a bit. Nola was quirky sometimes.
“I brought lube today. Organic.” This girl. This fucking girl, driving me to break out of character."
If the plot didn't have so many holes, and we got some meat in it, maybe this could have worked.
In my perspective, it was too cliché, and fits more to the books written 9 years ago and not today where the readers need more.
“I can’t get you out of my head. Can’t sleep, my concentration at work is nonexistent. What have you done to me, Nola?”

I am totally cool with age gaps, this one being a 21 year old woman and a 42 year old man did give me a moment of hesitation, but I continued. I am okay with big age gaps, AS LONG AS NO ONE MAKES THE AGE THING WEIRD.
Spoiler alert HE MADE THE AGE THING WEIRD. Not only did he instinctively call her a girl, and then have to back track that because she is able to legally drink, she should be able to play, but the last straw was the Lolita reference. But before the Lolita reference she also made it weird, “I put one foot in front of the other, attempting a sexy prowl, oozing every bit of adult energy I have in me.” Like be so fucking for real. Oh and then she infantilizes herself even further “He, this smoldering grown-up man and me, the girl who’s never experimented with a vibrator.” SHE WORKS AT A SEX TOY SHOP. The access is there.
I am immediately noticing all the red flags and I think I am not only saving my brain from having to endure this but also saving my time.
