Only a few short weeks ago, I was a regular human. If you count being trained to kill from the time I hit puberty and crossing the globe to go on missions normal. Then, I found out I could steal powers from superheroes.
It wasn't long before I formed my own team of supes called Unity.
With a collection of beautiful superheroes surrounding me, I'm starting to feel like I might be able to take on Pinnacle one day. The first step was stealing Phenomenon's powers, but I have a long way to go before I can do my dad proud and rid the world of those egomaniacal supes.
The next step is ensuring that Unity is respected amongst the general public, and that'll require doing some missions out in the open to gain their favor. Little did I know that there are bigger bads than Pinnacle out there, and my antics have attracted their attention...

Another fantastic book by Dante King!
With Marvel and DC being powerhouses in modern media and long time superhero comic publishers, it's a decent change of pace to find a novel like Making Supers.
A world where Supers are feared and loved, overseen by a corrupt and power hungry corporation and a band of Misfits hellbent on justice and bringing The corrupt corporate empire crumbling to ruins.
But with answers given, we also get more questions with an action packed and thrilling ending that has you wanting more!

The first one was funny in a 'So Bad it's entertaining' kind of way. This one was just sad.
I kept with this series because I thought the story was interesting enough (even if it was just a watered down version of The Boys / Watchmen / Invincible) and the whole 'stealing powers and being able to give it to another person through sex' in theory was really hot (it revved my engine so to speak). Sadly, both of these features had worn out their welcome since Dean (and in extension Dante King) refuses to use this power to its full extend.
I had my suspicions that Dean was an extremely closeted gay character in the first book, but this novel pretty much solidifies that thought. I'm even starting to think that perhaps Dante King is either doing this on purpose, or he himself is just projecting all of his queer thoughts onto Dean inadvertently. The amount of times Dean thinks about, or talks about, other men's dicks / masculinity is completely obsessive. I've read gay smut that talks less about other guy's dicks for Christ sake.
To add to this fact is the actual sex scenes and how Dean treats the women in this book. I'm not convinced that Donte has ever actually pleasured a woman based on Dean's interactions with women and their sex scenes. Like...has he actually sat down and spoken to a woman? Has he ever had the privilege of enjoying the company of a woman? Because the sex scenes play out like very bad porn...and not in a sexy or 'so bad it's funny' kind of way, just a bad way.
About halfway through this book, I just started feeling bad for the guy. Like, you can tell he's really trying, but it just comes off as a kid playing with Barbies and thinking they're Spider-Man action figures in fight sequences, but then smashing their bodies together during the intimate scenes. At some point you just gotta put the toys down and actually speak to another person.

Ok, enough dunking on Donte and what he needs to work out. The actual story of this novel was not enjoyable to read. At least the first book had action set pieces and a clear direction. This one was so scattered and directionless. I understand that you're trying to set up a multiple book storyline here, but you at least have to give the reader something to hang on to.
And for a 'smutty' book, for a 10+ hour book, only having three sex scenes is not a very good 'Bang for your buck' as it were. The first book had about the same amount of sex scenes, but at least they were around set pieces and action sequences to make up for the lack of sexy times.
Also, the big stinger at the end of the first book: Taking Phenomena's powers and gaining an Alpha/Omega tier power (I believe that's how they refer to it) but then not being able to either use it or transfer it? What a let down! That was one of the major reasons I kept reading this series. I wanted to see what Dean would do with Phenom's power. But instead, it's 'Behind a Pay Wall' as it were. Like, at least make one of the women on your team the ultra babe. But that would also be making the woman more powerful than you, and oh god, we can't have that, now can we.
And can we just let Dean bang Chuck to give Chuck those super powers already? You are actively crippling your team and your mission by not giving Chuck powers. I know I harped on this in my review for the first book, but it becomes overtly clear that they're actively harming themselves because of this. Just get down on Chuck and give our boy some powers already!
Finally, this book doesn't have an ending. At least the first book had a semi-satisfying conclusion that tied the major theme of the book up. This one felt like Dante just got tired or writing, or he figured 'that's a good point to stop this book now on to the next'. If you read any book series, there's still a resolution of the major conflict in that book, and this book doesn't have that at all. It's just 'oh hey the big organization we're trying to take down have super advanced robots...that's weird....' Smash cut to credits.
I thought the first book was one of the worst things I've ever read, but this one beats it by a country mile. I think I'm going to stop reading this series. So far this is three 'harem' romances that have just left me cold. I might give it one more try but I'm starting to think the whole "Smut...but for him" books just aren't for me.

Still a wild ride
I'm enjoying the series and binging at. Still a wild ride tons of action. Love most of the characters not too annoying. The MC of course is incredible but he's supposed to be. How many problem I have is we don't see much of the other suppose to be superheroes doing anything in the city. Press conferences.. And if the bad guys are making villains we should probably see a few more of those too. However overall fun series and I am enjoying it. I guess that's the point.

Round 2, fight!!!
More powers, more players, more mayhem. And who would have thought being a superhero would hurt so much. Love the twists, the spy like intrigue as well as the sexiness all around. The plot thickens as we delve deeper into it. Can't wait for the next installment of this series.

Amazing
It's been awhile since I've been this excited about a series. The story is non stop action and world building. I won't blame anyone who thinks that this chapter is too much action (I don't agree but I can see that point of view) but the story gets pushed so much in just the 2nd book. I can't wait for the next one!!

Easy read but a little forgettable
Lots of action and intrigue and just interesting enough that i want to know where the story is heading. I would prefer less harem and more of the battle being fought against the ruling supers but would have loved the series when i was in college.

A step up in stakes
Dean and company find themselves in a higher stakes game than they'd planned. With government agencies, crazy fan boys, and some seriously weird experiments up against them, they can use all the help they can get.
This was an enjoyable book. Great mix of mystery, violence, and sexy times. Some fun new additions to the cast.

Great book 2
Loved seeing more of this world. Cool new powers and new players involved in what is going on. Interesting surprise at the end that I really want to find out more about. Looking forward to the next book.

good story, needs a closer edit
I’m enjoying the story and world building, but the editing issues repeatedly knock me out of the story. I hope he keeps writing but spends a little more time on the edits.

The MC is definitely overpowered, but he sort of has to be considering what he and his people are up against. This book, while not as good as the first one, is a fun read, exciting, and enjoyable.

The second book of this series was just as good as the first one. Wildcard and his team are being watched by another group. They have to find out who this new threat is and what they want before they will lose everything they have built so far.

Loving the series! The action is fun and keeps me on the edge of my reading chair. The character development is fun and we now have some mysteries that need unraveling. Lookign forward to reading the 3rd one.

Good book
As usual he really knows how to keep you interested in the story. Great storyline I'm really enjoying reading this book. Got to get number three to read next.

It actually has gotten better
Hard to believe that the story, fight actions get better! But it does! A great team forms and death and destruction follow. Highly recommended.
