ABHIMANYU, beloved son of Arjuna is one of the most endearing figures of Indian mythology. The Golden Prince, blazed across the realm of myth like an effervescent comet that lit up the heavens, yet was extinguished far too soon. In the killing field that was Kurukshetra, where countless evil deeds were perpetrated in the name of righteousness, Abhimanyu was a shining beacon of valour. “And he was loved by all, even by his father’s enemies.”
And hereby, I agree with this quote.
For me, the great saga of Mahabharata had always been about the Kaurav-Panadava brothers, Draupadi and Karna. Possibly due to lack of literature, I had never spared a thought for any other character. It was upon reading this book, Abhimanyu, that I got to about yet another facet of the legend – the story of the brothers’ children.
The son of Arjuna and Krishna’s sister Subhadra; Abhimanyu was everyone’s beloved. With his thirst for knowledge, respect for all and utterly admirable manners, nobody could stay cross with him; including Arjuna’s ardent enemies – Duryodhan and Karna. (Frankly, with me being an Arjuna hater, even I fell in love with Abhimanyu.)
Anuja Chandramouli has outdone herself this time! Along with the story of Abhimanyu, she has woven in stories of the children of other Kaurav-Pandava brothers brilliantly.
The book has been so intensely written that neither could I keep it down, nor could I continue reading; for I knew how the book would end. And when I was oh so close to the doomsday, I couldn’t stop my tears. It broke my heart, but not before etching Abhimanyu in it.
If you are a mythological-fiction fan, then this book is a must read for you. You will love it!
Abhimanyu, the most beloved character from the Epic Mahabharata, and we hardly see any book in the character. So when I see the title, I can't help myself but get it.
In the book the author tells us Abhimanyu story through her own elements with the events taken from the epic. In the book the author not only shows him as the Son of Arjuna, or a warrior who has tragic death in Kurukshetra. But talks about how he's born, how he's loved by everyone, how he himself is a great warrior, his personality and character shown in here.
I love the book from very beginning and how it opens - as Arjuna and Krishna coming back from their battle and Arjuna can feel the despair and sadness in the air, how he talks about that his son's smiles is the only thing that makes him going on in this gruesome battle. And how everyone is mourning the death of Abhimanyu, it's so heartbreaking and touching moment. And the very next chapter we go back in time when he was conceived and how his parents have a lots of hopes with him and then we see his life journey.
I like the book very much as the writing style, simple language and well paced makes it interesting and intriguing. And also every characters flashed out well.
So overall a great book and would definitely recommend if you're also like mythology, and likes to read mythological characters.
Anuja Chandramouli delves deep into the character of Abhimanyu, the son of the great Arjuna and Subhadra, much beloved young prince in the epic tale of Mahabharata. Abhimanyu is always known for his zeal to excel, his bravery, and his thirst for knowledge.
Whilst there are retelling of the Mahabharata, very few literature actually talk and imphesis on their characters as individuals, and the effect each of the characters' presence changed the storyline of the epic.
Anuja's writing outshines every single time, and you somehow feel gripped by her way of presenting her characters. She maintains the tone and intensity.
Anuja portrays significant events in and around Abhimanyu. For being the Braveheart he is, Abhimanyu awestrucks everyone in the family with immisable charm and calm. His hunger for learning and confidence paved his way to the historic warfield where this warrior prince surpassed all expectations.
Personally, I have always replayed the videos of the war sequence where Abhimanyu meets death in the Chakrayuha, not knowing the exit to it. I have always wished to see the sequence in writing. The flaws, the heartbreak of a youth dying, the bloodshed, and the agony after this specific episode. All these essences were captured and painted by Anuja in the truest enity that can ever exist. The only things that remain awe-inspiring are his determination and fierce nature of not surrendering at ease. Just by reading the book, I felt hollowed inside, as if the pain and grief just took everything from me.
If you're a serious mythological fiction reader, you would be in for a ride of emotions after reading this book for this book is very well explored and researched. You shouldn't miss the books written by the marvelous Anuja Chandramouli

✨We all know a lot about Arjuna, Karna and other characters in Mahabharata, but how much do we know about Abhimanyu who played a very crucial role in Kurukshetra?
✨Honestly, I knew very less about Abhi even though it was said to be that Abhimanyu would be a great warrior than Arjuna.
✨From this book I've learnt quite a lot about Abhimanyu and his life, which made me like Abhimanyu instantly.
✨Kurukshetra from Abhimanyu's eye was intriguing to read, despite already knowing the story.
✨The author's usage of words in the book is intellectual.
✨Abhi's wit and capability to turn rivals to friends is well portrayed.
✨A mix of friendship and love within the story made my reading experience more beautiful. ✨My most fav chapters from the book are the conversations between Abhi and Gatotkacha, the beautiful love between Abhi and Uttara.
✨A must read mythological book if you are interested in knowing more about Abhimanyu.
When asked about favorite characters from mahabharat, most people end up saying Abhimanyu. Trained by the most skilled warriors he an asset to the pandavas whose feats in war knew no bounds. But much about his upbringing, how people dotted him and a glimpse of who he was before the kurukshetra war. Eventhough the story is well known, everytime a book is read from the pov of each character, it opens our mind to different perspectives. If you are invested in mythology especially Mahabharat, this one is for you.
Beautifully written by the author! The narrations very descriptive and in a very rich language. I couldn't keep this book down but I didn't want to read the end. It was so good to read about Pandavas and Kauravas other son's too
Despite the fact it is woven in our consciousness, the epic - Mahabharat, never fails to attract us whenever there is a retelling of it. So when the author Anuja Chandramouli sent me this review copy of her latest book: Abhimanyu, I dived in immediately for the experience.
Abhimanyu - a character that is much celebrated when it comes to talk about the war and the intricacies of it. But not much is known beyond the war scenes. Writers often sing ballads of his bravery but how he came to this stage of life is not told. This is where this book makes an interesting tale. Starting with Arjun-Subhadra's sojourn in the jungle as they ran away after marrying. From his childhood we see how he is different from other kids of his generation. The next generation of Kurus which is not often talked about. From Karna to Duryodhan, their sons and daughters take stage here, to tell unknown facets of the story.
It is a delight to read the book as it travels through less told scenes from the epic. Be it cheerful banters between five brothers, while Abhi is witness to that, or the lesser known storylines-like kings being invited to Rajsuya yagya, and one of them is Vibhishana who is still alive and ruling Lanka. Writing style is contemporary, yet stays respectful to not being too simple, that makes you immersed. By the time the things heat up, and you reach to the point you know it is going to break your heart, as Abhimanyu reaches in the jaws of death, it moves you like anything. Not ending here, again the epilogue breaks your heart. A perfect addition in the collection for lovers of mytho-fiction and Mahabharata.
Hello, my dear readers and I wish you all a happy new year 2023!
I am just back from a sabbatical and hence the delay in posting. Today, I have a review of the latest from Anuja Chandramouli called Abhimanyu. I have read and reviewed her previous works, and when she sent me a copy of her latest, I was thrilled! Thank you so much, Anuja!
All those who have read the Mahabharata know the story of Abhimanyu. But this book isn’t a mere recitation of what happened; it retells the tale with new perspectives and vivid details. The Golden Prince, as Abhimanyu was known, was Arjuna and Subhadra’s beloved son. The one who began learning the ways of war even before he was born.
The book begins with the time when Subhadra and Arjuna are spending time in the forests in exile. When they return to Indraprastha, they are welcomed with open arms and excitement is at its peak when Subhadra announces her pregnancy. It comes as no surprise that when the beautiful child is born, he is bestowed with divine skills and features. Such was his brilliance that he was a favourite of everyone in the palace. Born with the precision skills of his father he was fondly called the Golden Prince.
The book continues as Abhimanyu grows into a fine young man. The narrative goes on to describe how he is a great learner and is a rival only to his father in terms of war skills. The writing by the author is absolutely absorbing- I did not feel like putting the book down even once. The vivid storytelling with which the story is taken forward is the highlight of the book. We all know the basic story of the epic but with this book, one gets to experience in detail what each character goes through. It is fascinating!
While reading I noticed that each of the characters was given individual attention. Enough time was given to describe their personas and nuances which added depth and made it easier for me, as a reader, to better understand them. And that was a huge plus because it made reading the story all the more interesting. For me, other than Abhimanyu’s character, Draupadi’s and Arjuna’s characters stood out.
By the end of the book, the story comes to a heart-wrenching halt and I remember wishing that somehow the end could be rewritten. But tragedy does have that effect on people. Beautifully put together, the narrative does a splendid job of bringing the enticing take on the brave warrior Abhimanyu to a glorious end. The following quote from the book sums it all up, in my opinion.
“Everywhere, men marvelled at his unflinching heroism in the face of certain death. Abhimanyu knew it was all over for him. When the spinning chakravyuha closed behind him, shutting out those behind him, he had known there was no returning.”
I have previously read the author’s works before and I must say that she has a penchant for bringing history back to life with her vivid storytelling skills. Abhimanyu is one such book and if you are a mythology /history buff then you must not miss this.
Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna and Subadhra, is a character that has captured the imagination of many a reader, with his valiant deeds and his tragic fate. A shining star amidst the firmament of legendary warriors, he possessed a noble and gentle soul, a fierce and indomitable spirit, and an unwavering sense of loyalty and duty. Trained by the best teachers and mentored by the great lord Krishna himself, Abhimanyu's prowess in the art of warfare was unmatched, and he became a force to be reckoned with in the battlefield. However, fate had other plans for him, and his untimely demise at a tender age has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who have come to know him through the pages of the epic Mahabharata.
Abhimanyu by the eminent author, Anuja Chandramouli is a captivating literary masterpiece. Within the pages of this exquisite work, the author deftly brings to life the enigmatic character of Abhimanyu, a valiant warrior from the pages of the celebrated epic, Mahabharata. With a spellbinding narrative that commences from the very day of Arjuna and Subadhra's progeny, Abhimanyu's birth, we are taken on a journey that explores the depths of his noble and gentle character, his profound love for animals, his filial devotion to his parents, and his unwavering determination to learn and excel in the art of warfare. Under the tutelage of the great lord, Krishna, Abhimanyu blossoms into a fierce and skilled warrior, proficient in the use of weapons ranging from the sword and bow to the mace.
Anuja Chandramouli's elegant prose and eloquent storytelling are truly remarkable, and the manner in which she has given voice to the unspoken aspects of Abhimanyu's personality is nothing short of brilliant. The book masterfully portrays Abhimanyu's unwavering loyalty to his beloved wife, Uttara, evoking a deep sense of emotion and empathy from the reader. The author's captivating storytelling abilities are further accentuated by her simple and easily comprehensible language, making the book accessible to readers from all walks of life. The striking and alluring cover design serves as an enticing invitation to embark on a journey that will leave a lasting impression on one's soul.
In conclusion, Abhimanyu is a must-read for all enthusiasts of the genre of mythology, a literary gem that offers a refreshing and unique perspective on a well-known tale. It is a book that captivates and enthrals, igniting the passion for reading in the hearts of all who dare to delve into its enchanting pages.
This book is a nonpareil book full of sagas of valor and making of one of the most endearing and enduring figures of Indian mythology, a devout warrior of Dharma in the battlefield of kurukshetra, Abhimanyu who lived a very short life that too sacrificed for the cause of Dharma, righteousness and truthfulness.
Abhimanyu who has been shown most of the time in most of the books and TV shows as mere a son of Arjuna and a supporting warrior on the battlefield but this piece will give you thrills one at a time with its meticulous & ferocious depiction of the Epic war's most indulging and soul stirring tragedy.
A beloved and pampered son, adored by Upapandavas, a kind, loyal and great husband of Uttara, a great archer & swordsman, a devout and indomitable warrior of valour, a protector of Dharma, Abhimanyu has been prodigiously depicted from a humanistic perspective by this erudite writer.
In this book, the tale of Mahabharata has been recited afresh and beautifully highlighting Abhimanyu as the central figure. This book also excites us to know more about one of the most indomitable warriors ever lived. This book has depicted some unheard events from the epic war Mahabharata, especially for them who don't know much about the same.
This book will get you emark on a chivalrous saga of Abhimanyu and will make you fall in love with this character, for sure. The way the author has presented every event meticulously and have given an emotional touch to the entire saga will also make you fall in love with this book.
There's a proper gap between every paragraph in this book which fills heart with exhilarating emotions and right here the author is successful to make this book a stepping stone for all the people like me to explore more about underrated characters like Abhimanyu who changed the course of War and we have a lot to learn from them that can change our life entirely by getting us on the right path.
The characters sketching, storytelling, plot, conflicts, and dialogues all these elements in this book are rightly put in place and give this book an edge and make this'a 'paragon of its kind.' The language used in this book is legible and the subtle writing style and storytelling make it easy to grasp things easily with the slow-paced narration. An unforgettable and unputdownable read.
I have read many Mahabharata retellings to date. And none of it has bored me or seemed repetitive. Though I already know the series of events, every author brings out a new perspective, either to the whole epic or just one character. This book about the Golden Prince of Mahabharat, i.e, Abhimanyu is yet another Mahabharat retelling, which I would highly recommend to you all.
Anuja Chandramouli has her way with Mythological writings, she creates a vivid image in the minds of her reader about royal courts, kings & queens, princes & princesses, attires & jewelry, palace & halls, sword-fighting & archery, and wars & battles. It’s like we had a first-hand view of all the progressions.
Abhimanyu’s character in the epic is often discussed on the surface, mostly limited just as a son of Arjuna. It’s not new knowledge that Abhimanyu died in the battle of Kurukshetra, but this book takes a ferocious turn in delivering the most indulging and spell-bound tragedy of the battle. It talks from the birth of Abhimanyu, how he was loved & pampered by his parents & uncles, how he was adored by Upapandavas, how he was a great archer, swordsman, and a fighter, how kind he was, how he loved animals, how much loyal he was towards Uttara, how great a friend he was, how devoted a son, and how he, following the Dharma teachings of his family died at the hands of non-dharma followers, Kauravas.
The book was hooking from the very beginning and by far the incidents of battle came to light, I already made a friend in Abhimanyu and his killing or death bought tears to my eyes. As much as Abhimanyu’s death hurt my heart, I was crying just thinking about his family for whom he was the brightest star, the golden prince, and the future king of the Pandava clan. Highly recommended if you are new to Mahabharat retellings and if you are a fan of it too.
Title: Abhimanyu Author: Anuja Chandramouli Publisher: One Point Six Technologies Pvt Ltd Publication Date: 25 August 2022 Number of Pages: 369 ISBN: 978-9354581205 Genre: Myths, Legends & Sagas
Abhimanyu, the beloved son of Mighty Arjuna, remains one of the most endearing and enduring figures of Indian mythology. I have read a lot of versions of the Mahabharata; each one had a unique yet acceptable perception. And each one fascinated me as it was the exact truth, but years later I started reading more about the individual characters of mythology; they say a lot about each person, and this is when the book about Abhimanyu reached me.
Just like Arjuna, Karna, Krishna, and so on from the Mahabharata, Abhimanyu holds an important place in the Kurukshetra War, and his perceptions about the great war offer more insights. The view we get to know is unique from the already known version of Mahabharat.
The character sketch of Abhimanyu is well written and gripping, and the fact that Abhimanyu is the Golden Prince of Mahabharat is new to me. The writing adds fascinating thoughts about the olden times. As we read, we would be able to get a picture of the whole sequence, starting from the Grand Palace to the war area.
I got to learn the whole life sequence of Abhimanyu, from his birth to the day he died on the battlefield. The love and friendship of Abhimanyu and his uncle, Krishna, is yet another beautiful and satisfying connection.
The book definitely kept me hooked from the beginning, and as parts of the war approached, it gripped us to read without taking a break. I am thankful for the review copy and also for bringing Abhimanyu into our lives. I am now eager to read another book from the author on Arjunan, the father of Abhimanyu, another great warrior until the end of time.
It's an age-old saying that a would-be mother should always listen to good things, watch good, read good books, and many different similar things. And a great example of the same is 'Abhimanyu'. His talent, skills, intelligence, and every single other attribute shout about being a great warrior, a great man, and a well-acquainted person.
Arjun is my most devoted character from Mahabharatha and when it comes to his child - he has a complete combination of his father's intelligence, his uncle's talent, his mother's charm, his mama's sharpness, and his by-birth skilled proficiency. So picking up this book was quite clear in my head.
The author has done magic with how she has created this complete journey of Abhimanyu from the time of his conceiving till his birth. The phase of him in his mother's womb listening to the stories from his mother and learning every single technique from his father. Especially the very famous chakraviewh which was the most difficult to cross or enter. The story will give you goosebumps at many instances when you will live that moment and could relate to how exactly that might have felt or happened.
I have read Mahabharatha by different authors, but this book gave some epic scenes and information about Abhimanyu and his overall journey, upbringing, and pampering by the time the most drastic war took place. His death always pricks and hurt no matter how many versions you read or how many scripts you go through. So yes this book gave me very distinct memories of Abhimanhu and his journey till the end.
Abhimanyu, by Anuja Chandramouli, is a well-narrated tale of the Golden Prince, who is famously remembered through his tales of valour.
The book starts with the birth of Arjuna and Subadhra’s son, Abhimanyu. Gentle, noble and yet a fierce warrior, he is loved by everyone. Being Krishna’s nephew, he learns his art of fighting from the best of the teachers- be it with the sword, bow or mace. He is always seen as a warrior, even better than his own father. Time and again, he proves his mettle is little actions through his life and finally is the most priced asset for the Pandavas in the war. The bloody land of Kurukshetra eats him and his liveliness, only for him to be called the biggest warrior of all times. The book narrates the story of his life, highlighting his kindness, his love for animals, his regard for his parents, keenness to learn & excel and his deep love and loyalty for his wife, Uttara.
This reselling of Mahabharata is from a different perspective. Along with the Kauravas- Pandavas feud, it traces the lives of their progeny, the next generation. Anuja has explicitly talked about Abhimanyu’s relationship with his brothers, each of the Pandava brothers, Draupadi, Lord Krishna, the Kaurava children and even with Karna’s son, Vrishasena. The youthful and enthusiastic viewpoint provides it uniqueness. The language is easy and lucid and keeps you turning the pages. Anuja is an expert writer for mythology and this book is just another evidence. I definitely recommend it.
🔥🔥🔥"Quicker than thought, Abhimanyu entered the vyuha. The troops could only stare at him in horror. In moments, the hunters became the hunted, for Arjuna’s son was a vyuha unto himself, deadlier even than the chakravyuha he had effortlessly breached."🔥🔥🔥
🏹 Abhimanyu is my favourite character in the Mahabharata. Anuja Chandramouli's Abhimanyu is a remarkable work that helps me to know more about him, which makes me love him even more. A dauntless warrior who is well-known for his courageous attempt to breach the most difficult and tricky chakravyuha has a gentle heart that loves all creatures of the world.
🏹 The Pandavas and Draupadi are typically the main subjects of Mahabharata tales. But this book shows the lives of Subhadra and Abhimanyu in Dwaraka during the Pandavas' thirteen years of exile. It also covers the stories about his bond with Upapandavas, Vrishasena, Sashirekha, Lakshmani, Pradyumna, Sambha, Ghatotkacha, etc., which provides a quite heartwarming reading experience. He was loved and admired by everyone, including his father's enemies.
🏹 Though the end is heartbreaking, it is the ultimate courage of Abhimanyu that makes people keep their beloved Golden Prince in their hearts forever. Within these limited pages, the author almost covers all the significant events that happened in the vast Mahabharata epic, which is an extraordinary feat. Being a mythological lover, I am completely in love with this book, especially with the author's brilliant writing style.
🌄Imagine you're 16. What could you possibly think of doing at that age !? There will be a variety of different answers but none of them will be going to fight in a battle with no modern weapons, just mele weapons and a ton of courage.
🌄We know a person who has done it. I guess you can spell it now. It's Abhimanyu the legendary warrior from the ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata. He was born to the third Pandava prince Arjuna and the Yadu princess Subhadra, who was Krishna's younger sister.
🌄Coming to this book, it shows the part of Abhimanyu in Mahabharata with a unique and a blend of first person as well as third person perspective. This not only makes it enthralling but also cinematic. The excellent storytelling skills of the author can be seen vividly in her work.
📌That goes from presenting the plots to connecting various timelines into synchronisation. It all makes the story of Abhimanyu, more relatable and realistic. The book shows the elements of his life such as relationships, emotions, inner self and dharm.
📌I enjoyed this one and personally looking forward to read more of her works. For all those who are interested in the Epic Hindu Tale Mahabharata and the people engraved in the history of Hinduism through it, or want to read a unique pov on Abhimanyu's life, then this might be a good fit for your bookshelf.
Mahabharat, as the name suggests is large picturesque. And in that, Abhimanyu had one of the most vital roles. Like his step mother, his destiny was also predicted right from his birth.
When I think of Mahabharat, my thoughts usually revolve around Draupadi, Krishna, and Arjun. But this book, has now made a place for Abhimanyu in my thoughts.
Anuja Chandramouli has very neatly entangled the timeline of Mahabharat, and has placed a solid plot for food for thought. Reading Abhimanyu is like watching a tv series, the frames are elaborate enough for one can see them in their mind.
For me the highlight of the book would be the build up of Abhimanyu till he reaches the Vyuh and later is brutally killed by the Kauravs. This book has shed light on multiples relations he shared with each of his family members and how not only he was a great archer, son, friend, learner but also how much he loved Uttara.
I remember @readers_and_creators saying in her review, that she made a friend in Abhimanyu, and I would like to echo that! This story is about Abhimanyu's grit, his bravery, his kindness and most of all, his life from very essence of it to his last breaths. It's a ride of emotions, and I found myself smiling on the childlikeness of Abhimanyu, and crying when he was helpless at the Vyuh.
I would highly recommend this book, if you are looking for retelling of Mahabharat or to know Abhimanyu better!
Mahabharat is touted to be the pinnacle of human thought and understanding, and there is simply no tale that covers the most exhaustive exploration ever of the human condition like this does.
Hence, it can be deduced that there simply is no single way with which we can define Mahabharat, as every character has their own version of the story, and their own perspective to share.
In the book, ‘Abhimanyu’ by Anuja Chandramouli, we see how the author has narrated the tale of the life of great warrior prince, whose treacherous and tragic death was something that resulted in changing the course of the Kurukshetra war.
Though Abhimanyu does not appear in Mahabharat until much later, he was someone who has had a lot of impact on everyone, thereby ensuring that even if the great hand of destiny had allotted him but a brief shining moment, yet he remained alive in the timeless tales of an immortal epic.
The author depicts few incidences which show us how right from a very young age, Abhimanyu had always been the one to stand up for what he believed in, and once he set his mind on some objectives, there was no looking back for him.
As it has been so very rightly stated in the book, people may come and go, but it is their actions that live on, far later after they are gone, and in a similar way, we see how the deeds of supreme valour and sacrifice of Abhimanyu live forever in the hallowed realm of myth and legend. Hence I am going to give this FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A great warrior, a son par excellence he’s the son of the mighty Arjun who has been trained since he has been in his mother’s womb. Hes’s one of the most known characters in Mahabharata second next to Krishna and his father Arjun.
Anuja here brings to life a character that is brutally cut short by destiny. This book talks about him as a friend, brother, son, husband and much more alongside a mighty warrior. Most of us have known Mahabharata so we all know the fate of Abhimanyu but there are so many facets of his life that we all never imagined or even read about. Anuja breathes life in Abhimanyu the person.
The best thing I liked about the book is that she managed to portray Abhimanyu and his values without allowing the other characters like Arjun and Krishna to overshadow him. Normally when you write about an epic like this Krishna, Arjun tend to steal the limelight with their magnifying personalities and the story tends to deviate. Not this one. She has managed to hold Abhimanyu as the lead as the title says and do full justice to his story. The language is very easygoing and her grip on the story is commendable. The emotions expressed are raw, naked and very vulnerable. It feels like you are watching them live and up-close.
Thank you, Anuja, for this wonderful narration of the warrior who died a heroic death yet held his head high.
The Indian epic “Mahabharata” is not just holding a religious value; it’s a work of absolute art, and many brave, flawed, and vulnerable characters send many life lessons. Many books retell the stories and perspectives of characters for this epic. Anuja Chandramouli, in her latest book, “Abhimanyu,” narrates the story of Mahabharata's young and brave warrior. Abhimanyu, the son of Arjun and the favorite nephew of Krishna, has an exceptional role in Mahabharata. The book tells Abhimanyu’s story from his birth to the love he gets from everyone, to his exceptional war skills, to his personal qualities like a kind person, animal lover, a good friend, and a caring lover. Apart from Abhimanyu’s character, the events of the great Mahabharata war are vividly narrated in the story.
I love reading mythological fiction not to know the story but to know the different thoughts and perspectives of the characters, and in this story, the author gives voice to other characters. I was amazed at how Subhadra plays an influential role in the story and shapes Pandva’s thinking. The characters are well-developed, and the author gives proper space for characters to flourish. Overall, this is my first book by the author, and I loved it thoroughly; and looking forward to reading more of the author’s work.
Stories from Mahabharat is something that all of us have heard and read. I’m sure everyone like me, has heard stories about Arjun, Karan, Krishna and the other main characters of Mahabharat but very few speak and narrate the story of the golden prince Abhimanyu; son of Yadu princess Subhadra (Krishna’s sister) and Arjun.
The only thing that I knew about Abhimanyu was that he died during the war but had no idea about his childhood and other details before I read this beautiful book.
Anuja Chandramouli is a master in writing about these not so known mythological and historic characters. I loved the way she has given details about the events in Abhimanyu’s life. The way the author has penned the character made me fall in love with him. I also loved the way the events of the war have been described. In addition to Abhimanyu, I also learnt about a lot of other characters which I never knew existed. This is the kind of book which you can’t put down and you don’t even want it to end. I was in tears by the time I finished the book.
If you like to read mythological fiction, you have to read this book. The writing is simple and the descriptions will make any reader hooked on to the book. I’m a big fan of Anuja and after this I can’t wait to read her next work.
We have often heard about the stories from Mahabharata, and the unique thing about them is that since there are so many characters, it always gives us a fresh view when we read it from someone else’s perspective. The book, Abhimanyu by author Anuja Chandramouli delves into Abhimanyu's life story, exploring his background, training, and his ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The author beautifully describes the key events that shaped Abhimanyu's life, from his upbringing in the royal family to his heroic role in the battle.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is the author's ability to transport the reader back in time and bring to life the characters and settings of the Mahabharata, thereby making us feel what it would have been to live in that era.
The book is full of vivid descriptions of the epic battle, and the reader can almost hear the clashing of swords and the cries of warriors, thus giving it an experience that can only be described as something mind blowing.
Overall, the book is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring legacy of the Mahabharata, thereby making it a must read for all those who are interested in learning some or the other thing from it.
Abhimanyu is a well loved and important character from the Mahabharata but one I didn’t know much about. Stories of valour and righteousness are widely narrated but I’ve always longed to know more about the precise or supposedly accurate events specific to the young prince that carved his great warrior persona. This book gives him an identity and so much more.
Anuja Chandramouli has penned a comprehensive and intense premise portraying the trivial and the significant events that nurtured a braveheart like Abhimanyu. The young prince loved by family and foes alike. Every good omen and premonition along with the sequentially apparent events that paved the route to the inevitable war are intricately written. Perspective of the young prince, his sense of duty amidst a tragic war bring the reader to tears.
This book is going to break your heart into a million pieces reiterating a tragedy but not without highlighting profound wisdom and mettle shining through the sacrifice of a young martyr.
Abhimanyu by Anuja Chandramouli is a treat for lovers of mythological fiction and those who love reading interpretations of the complex Mahabharata, as every perspective is nothing but an addition to deciphering wisdom to reach the eternal truth.
Mahabharata is a timeless epic that is considered to have the most treasure trove of stories, which not only provide as an entertainment for the readers, but is also known to inspire a generation of them. And there is no doubt that there are many tales of valour and courage, yet if there is one character which stands out and leaves his mark, then it can be touted to be that of Abhimanyu.
Hence, this book by Anuja Chandramouli is a great attempt by author to bring forth the story of Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, who played a significant role in the epic battle of Kurukshetra.
Despite being just a teenager, we see how Abhimanyu was a skilled warrior who was trained in the art of warfare from a young age. His bravery and fearlessness in battle earned him a reputation as one of the most formidable fighters in Mahabharat.
This book is a must-read for anyone interested in Indian mythology or ancient Indian history. It not only tells the story of one of the Mahabharata's most inspiring heroes but also provides insights into the epic battle and the values that underpinned the ancient Indian society.
This book retells the events of the Indian epic, the Mahabharata, from the perspective of Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna and Subhadra. Author brings a fresh perspective to the story, and her writing is engaging from the very beginning.
What sets "Abhimanyu" apart is the way it explores the characters in greater depth than the original epic, particularly Abhimanyu's character. The themes of duty and sacrifice are also explored in greater depth, and the reader is drawn into the story from the very beginning.
Her writing is well-crafted and evocative, and the scenes are executed with great skill. The book is filled with moments of action and intrigue, and the twists and turns keep the reader engaged throughout.
Overall, it's a unique and well-written retelling of the Mahabharata, from the perspective of a character who is often overlooked in the original epic. The book is highly recommended for anyone interested in mythology, particularly those looking for a fresh perspective on a classic story.
Abhimanyu- Son of Arjuna and Subhadra, nephew of lord Krishna, who knew his destiny even before he was born. and this book is dedicated to Abhimanyu, his courage and Valour, his martyrdom, and his heroism. And later on, it was his son Parikshit who was the last king of the Kuru clan.
Abimanyu started learning War tactics from his mother's womb when Arjuna used to narrate stories of wars to Subhadra. He learned many great things from his uncle Krishna. He was the favorite of everyone and why wouldn't he be? He was an ideal Son, a fierce Warrior. He didn't even hesitate once to enter the chakravyuh though he knew he don't know how to exit the formation.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book whether it is the story narration or the choice of words. The book is captivating althoIIhashave already read Mahabharat several times, I was still indulged in a book like I m reading for the first time. I am sure you all will enjoy it!!!
Abhimanyu by Anuja Chandramouli is a mythological fiction about the titular character.
As a kid who grew up watching re runs of Mahabharata on the DD National, I don't really know much about Abhimanyu and his life apart from the part where he was destined to die in a chakravyuh as Subhadra fell asleep when Arjuna was explaining how one comes out of a chakravyuh and then that part happening the the battle of Kurukshetra.
The book gives a very nice idea of Abhimanyu as a person instead of a guy whose death and how it would happen was written before he even sets foot on this earth.
Anuja Chandramouli gives a very nice and well written idea regarding his life and his relationship with those around and his cousins.
The plot opens up with Abhimanyu's birth and subsequently moves to his life.
It's well written and I enjoyed it.
Will recommend it to those who enjoy mythological fiction.
The character of Abhimanyu is always described as the son of Arjuna. He was endeared and loved by everyone and whose death left the Pandavas bereaved and breathless on the battlegrounds of Kurukshetra.
This book, his namesake gave me the story of the individual Abhimanyu. He's kind, he's loyal, he's heroic and he's a fighter. As I read the story further, I began to fall in love with him and understood why he's always lauded as the most loved son of the Pandavas.
His story of birth till death, everything is portrayed in the story. The descriptions of the characters, the setting, the places, the clothes and the jewellery all were like elegance on paper.
The writing was so good and made me laugh and cry. I was terrified to read the ending for it would be the end of Abhimanyu, the golden prince.
