Clayton Sanders left home the minute he had his high school diploma in hand. He waited that long only because the Army wouldn't accept him without one. Now, ten years later, he's home. Home with no warning, no advance notice, no anything after being gone ten years with almost no contact with his family. Home carrying a secret that is burning him up from the inside. A secret that has pushed him to the brink, forcing him to become a criminal in order to be where his family needs him to be, even though they don't realize it yet. Because Clayton knows something they don't. Something that hasn't happened, but will. Something that will burn everything it touches. And change the face of the world forever.
PROLOGUE “…we have managed to secure Chicago with the exception of a few hot spots that are still in rebel hands, but the city areas where we are resettling citizens are secure. I anticipate we will have those few spots cleared in the coming days, at which point my brigade will be moving on to another trouble spot and security for the city will pass over to the 6th NSG Orientation Battalion as we begin reeducating citizens in new policies and handing out work assignments.” “And there you have it folks! General Frederick Lincoln, commander of forces in Chicago, with an update on things in the Windy City. It looks as if the rebels there are living on borrowed time. In related news, the leaders of the rebel infestation in Chicago who were captured have been executed as of this morning, with their followers being pressed into labor companies so they can help rebuild the areas they have destroyed.” “So, take heart, America! Things are looking up! This has been a news update from the National Salvation Government Public Information Office.”
Another great addition to the series. This one is pretty light on the action and served as a building book, introducing some new characters and setting up some stories for the future. The ending definitely has me looking forward to the next book(s) in the series. I feel like this might be a multi-book arc that we're coming up on.
There are a lot of CME disaster series out their, but this one is my favorite. I'm way overdue for a re-read on the series. At this point, there are a lot of characters, so a refresher is kind of needed. Doesn't hurt that I really love this series.
Only gripe I have is the usual one: too many typos for a book with a publisher. Creative Texts needs to hire a proofreader who does more than click the spell check button.
I am 71 years old so please write faster So I can Read all of your books. I really love these kind of books. The FIRE series are my favorite that you write. The Sanders clan and their friends are still doing their best to stay alive and have a life of peace and quite ,which is just not happening. I am not very good at writing reviews but I will say if you want to read a series That everything that is happened in the series could actually happen Then this is the 1 for you. How would you react If something like this happened to our world Would you be prepared To live in this world Or could you survive in this world I guess this is the question. If you take the time to just read the 1st book in this series you will be hooked there will be no turning back.
I love this series and reading these books on how Clay keeps his family and friends safe in a functioning farm community during an apocalypse is fascinating. This book in the series gave us more insight to how the farm and protection is being handled. The runs into Columbia gave the reader some idea of how the rest of the world is struggling. The ending was a cliffhanger and I fear some bad news for the farm. I hope the writing break in this series isn't too long. I love these books and look forward to them so much.
20 words or more huh? Just: "Written by NC Reed" should be enough said. OK more words. This series would make a great franchise for a television or movie series. This from one who averages 4-5 hours of television a YEAR. As with a lot of his other books, Mr. Reed can paint a very bleak picture, but maintains a positive thread throughout the story. Anyone who has read the series this far should know the capabilities/specs of the weapons used, and in that area we are spared paragraphs about muzzle velocity and grains, ordinance minutiae ad- nausieum. The lack is filled with more story. Knowing people who are ardent readers with Kindles, one even has a farm, I am very quick to recommend this series to them. The ONLY snivel I have ( and not reducing a 5 Star rating 1 iota) ----is did you really have to end this volume with a cliff hanger? I can't wait for the next book what ever it is. Thank you for all your hard work Bill Hodges A Fan
Fire From the Sky: Book 13: Hot Spots by N.C. Reed is a very well written story of a family that live on a large family farm in Tennessee which have taken in thier friends and their families, some of their community, refugees (including orphans), as well has more than a few National Guard members, banding together to face a new future in the aftermath of a solar flare that has pretty much left Earth back to the point of a pre-industrial era without working electronics for the most part, fighting for their survival from starvation, disease, modern medical treatment, and violence from those who want what they have.
This is a very good book and series, and I really hope that the 13th book is not the final in this tell of the folks living on the Sanders' farm or those in their neighboring communities. I really hope that N.C Reed continues forward with this series and can't wait for the next book to come out. I hope you too will enjoy this tell.
Very excited to continue this series which is one of my favorites (as is the author's Parno series). To be honest, this was a little shorter and a little lighter on the action, where most of the story was spent improving the farm and connecting with nearby communities. In some ways, it was a nice change from nonstop battles (I'm sure the characters feel the same way). There were some editing issues, mostly typos (botted instead of bottle, presence instead being present, picknick instead of picnic) and some characters names were slightly mangled (Jasimine/Jasmine, Same/Sam). None of that really spoiled the story. I suspected that the cliffhanger would be significant and it was, and I lament that the author indicates that this series will be on the backburner for a bit. I do hear patience is a virtue, so I will get a chance to cultivate it in this instance.
I live for Sanders farms adventures yet ends to soon. I can guess who the Serial killer could be but I was hoping for some interaction with the Chicago group.
Wow. I am beyond impressed with all 13 of these books. What I appreciate the most is the characters and their emotional growth throughout the series. There are teaching moments within so many of the characters as they navigate relationships under all the stress faced by everyone. I love it when I am given an opportunity to really care for these humans and feel the joy and sorrows they face during survival. These folks have become so real to me and it’s great to “be” with them as they learn. About the new world and themselves.
I usually only make it around 5 or 6 books in a long series, mostly due to the protagonists evolving to ridiculous levels, and/or the plots repeating. Somehow, Mr. Reed has kept Clay from developing God like powers while keeping him interesting, and slowly filling out the back stories of myriad of characters he's introduced, a few paragraphs at a time. I think several of these characters could have short stories/novellas, even books of their own, but Mr. Reed seems to have enough on his plate without expanding the Fire universe. Please write faster!
I have never laughed and cried through a series as much as I have with the sanders family and friends. Once again just another example of Hollywood being a bunch of out of touch morons! Sure wish super stars lol whatever that means could read we are talking career altering movie here or HBO series anyways they pick Steven king the king moron and froto lmao wake up hollymorons!!!!
don’t plan on doing anything once you open this book
Like always when it comes to N C Reed’s books you can’t put them down. He transforms you to the world in his books with his words. My only complaint is they are over to quick and are getting longer in between. He definitely left us standing a post with a empty rifle, with the cliffhanger on this books. But definitely worth the read.
The people on Sanders Farm have struggled for so long it is refreshing to see them worry over mundane things like romance and having a store on the farm for people to sell homemade items. This is a side to Clay I think even he forgot existed. The story ,as always, is engaging and compels you on to the next chapter making it so easy to finish the entire book in a few days!
As usual the story line: entertaining. The characters: riveting, intense, delightful. Overall: when’s the next one coming?
There are type ‘o’s. Maybe misspelling ? But I have found that in many ‘E’ books. No biggie. Every time a new chapter in the Sanders Saga comes out I ‘bing’ read the entire set over again and sometimes in between. Well if my honey can watch episodes of The Big Bang Theory, rerun after rerun, I can reread Fire From The Sky.
Why is it always over too soon? And why does it take so long for the next one! I sometimes curse the fact I ever stumbled across this series! It's great! I grave more! I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone that's made it to book 13 now good it is. And if you've stumbled onto this by accident then back your ass up and start at the beginning! You won't regret it! Now I wait and not patiently I might add!
First book was my favorite pepper novel. This book is good adtion. However series been lacking last few book. Thought series getting long in tooth. Had trouble reinserting myself into the series. Forgot what happen need outline of past events. However this book stood out as a better one. Lost star with that damm cliffhanger ending
I have enjoyed this series. This was an excellent episode in the Sanders saga. Well written , edited and covers the military aspect well. Editing and using the correct military jargon and composition is a pet peeve. This book ended to quickly the ending was a bit of a cliff hanger.
I highly recommend each and every book in this series! You will learn, and be entertained at the same time. N.C. Reed is humorous and enlightening. His characters are so human in their weaknesses and in their valor and good example. You come to be invested in the the lives of all of them and look forward to where the story is going to take you.
N. C. Reed has mastered capturing the essence of survival in a post apocalyptic world. If you like great characters and well written storylines, then do yourself a favor and grab this series!
I really like this series. It is tough keeping the thread that runs through the series when the author averages about one novel in this series a year.. I hope the next one comes quicker.
The series was doing so well except now it’s leaving us with cliffhangers.
That’s so sad and too bad. I was giving the series 5 stars all the way until the last two books. The author was writing his books and leaving them open ended but now he’s leaving his books at least the last two with cliffhangers. I personally am disappointed that he changed his writing style at least for the end of the books. The story is still great. The characters are wonderful and the world building is excellent. It’s just now like a lot of authors. He’s leaving us with cliffhangers and then we have to wait long time for the next book in the series. Four stars
Damn you NC Reed! You sucked me into this series ....made it feel like I know most of the characters....and left me hanging...again! The only consolation is there has to be another one coming. So, please, keep on writing great stories and I'll keep on reading your work
When an author writes a long series of books like these and takes so long to publish the next book the reader is sidetracked by other books and forgets much of the story. Too many fans in the fire. Dumping the series as tired of having to reread parts to remember where it left off
I really enjoy the Fire series so keep the stories coming. I noticed there were no real encounters with bad guys more laying out a new story line, that was okay. Can’t wait for the next installment. I have recommended the series to others who have also enjoyed Fire and continue to read. Thanks.
I was starting to nod off reading this one, but then it finally kicked into gear. Not the best of the bunch but things keep happening, just on a lesser. Hate the fact that it sounds like it will be awhile until the next one. Sounds like things will get interesting again. Can't wait.😁👍
This author is a true find. All of his books are outstanding. The Sanders clan is just a remarkable read. Can't wait for next book to come out. Along with hopefully more of Odd Billy Todd and of course Pathos journey. Keep up the great job.
I own every book in the series. I can't wait until the next one is done and put. Still One of the best series around. I just wish I had them in paperback. I might do that for me one day.
I love this series of books can’t wait for the next one. I understand when you need to take a break and finish other projects. Just can’t wait to read the next book. Thank you, Mr. Reed.
Ok, I will admit that the 5 stars are to much for this book, I love the series so damn much that I couldn’t help but give it a great review. I’m glad that N. C. Has kept the series going and dropped a little bit of “what the hell” at the end. Always a fan!
I love everything about this series except for the way every book ends in a "cliffhanger". And every single ending is dead set center in the middle of it! Argh! Can't wait for the next book!
