I read a lot of self-help and informative mental health books, all aimed at adults, and decided to pick this one up as sometimes reading things aimed at children with things written in quite simple terms can be oddly validating.

Although this book taught me personally nothing new, it was a pleasant read reflecting back on how I felt as a teenager and acknowledging those big feelings we get when we’re young that are often overlooked by adults.

I recommended to a teacher that I know that copies of this be given to all the Year 7s (11-12 year olds) upon starting secondary school and she’s going to read my copy to see if she agrees, which I think she will.

It covers things like exams, friendships, hormones but also heavier topics like grief and depression. I obviously couldn’t relate to exams and friendships (I have neither of those things 😂) but the grief section was my favourite part of the book.

Most books cover grief solely as something experienced after a death and it’s so refreshing to see it described as loss; whether that’s a breakup, someone you know longer see etc there are many ways to experience loss and grief but it isn’t acknowledged as much as it should be. Considering how open Dr Alex George is about the deaths in his personal life, I appreciate him also writing about the other types of loss a young (or older) person can experience.

Highly recommend this for older primary and younger secondary age, and also maybe for an adult who just wants a simplified version of mental health and wellness.

What a wonderful book for young readers on mental health topics. And not just your run of the mill explanations, but tangible emotions explained through real-life scenarios.

I only wish I had this book as a young person! What an asset this can be for those struggling to understand themselves and their peers. I’d even say an asset for parents, too.

A job well done, Dr. Alex 👏

This book is an incredible book for children and teenagers. This is the book I wish I had when I was struggling as a teen. My mental health needs were neglected at school, so this book makes me feel seen and heard.

This book is very easy to read and understand and is super informative. The simplicity in this book is beautiful, and it's so easy to understand. This book covers a lot of massive themes like anxiety, stress, loneliness, body, food, relationships, grief, exams, sexuality etc. yet condenses it down to a way a child can understand it. This book not only educates but provides exercise and advice that can benefit adults as much as they can children. I like how, unlike most adult self-help books, it's simple and straight to the point without too waffling about himself. The imgary in this book is so beautiful and so diverse, although I wish they came in colour. The author provides a list of actual useful and helpful services on the back page 217 for children to help themselves. This book contains interesting information even adults can learn from, like the difference between a crush and a thrive. Overall, it's an incredible read, and I highly recommend it for both adults and children.

This is such a fantastic read! As a person who worries lots, this book really boosted my confidence and self-esteem. I've been a lot happier since reading this book.

This book is full of helpful tips to help with everything from bullying to grief, and I really do recommend! Dr Alex has captured the problems that a lot of young people have and put it into a book, offering help and solutions!

At the back of the book, there is a "Help Yourself" section, full of links that young people might want to search to help, or numbers they might want to call.

I won't say anymore apart from please read this book! It's AMAZING!!!

Skierowana bardziej do osób dorastających.

This is great book for mental health in CYP and explains the ideas in simple language. Some lovely illustrations and a user friendly self help book. Mostly a CBT based model with hints of an acceptance based model.

Really helpful book & will be recommending to parents and CYP I see!

Great for kids and early teens. Really easy read with cute illustrations. Even if you’re not the intended age, it’s a useful reminder if you work/support children and young people - the reason I read.

This book is definitely aimed at children but needs to be children who already have an understanding of feelings. Quite a lot of stuff is repeated and jumps from one thing to another. A good read but not a go to self help book in my opinion.

Finished this book in 1 evening. It was a really easy read. Definitely amazing for younger children/early teens. It addressed lots of different mental health topics, ones which I faced as a young teenager. Glad I’ve read it, but did find it fairly repetitive.
