Steve Williams is the son of a successful retired British Intelligence field officer. Although Steve has a reasonably successful career as an analyst at MI6, he harbours greater ambitions. Miranda Carlos, a glamorous field officer, suffers an incapacitating injury and is unable to undertake an important intel-gathering assignment. The mission is so important that a suitable imposter must be sent in her place. Surprisingly, the computer picks Steve as having the strongest resemblance to the sexy Miranda. Although keen to take the assignment, he has to consider if he is willing to pay the necessary price in the line of duty. His loyalty to his country is tested as he faces the transformation that is required - especially given the warnings that some of it may be irreversible. As Steve begins to unearth plans for a devastating terrorist strike, he finds himself fighting for his life and, not knowing who he can trust, he is thrust into a terrifying race against time to prevent a horrific atrocity.
This is the second Jenny Walker book, I've read, and quite a shift from "Half Measures", which was a delightful read. "Breaking Cover" is a must read for any Tanya Allen fans.
Mark, an intelligence analyst for the mysterious MI6 (like American CIA), is recruited for a simple field assignment based on his resemblance to a field agent. A beautiful field agent named Miranda. What starts out a a simple assignment leads to a much more significant assignment that requires near total transformation as a beautiful swimwear model as cover.
Much of the transformation is contrived and poetic liscence is used to produce 2 years worth of hormones into a month. I also have issues with the "forced feminization" of male who seems to have no prior inclinations and suddenly becomes transgender. Mainly because it promotes the notion that gender identity can be changed in a matter of time. I was also concerned about the suggestion that massive doses of estrogen could cause total transformation in a month. In reality, such doses would more likely lead to stroke or heart attack.
All that being said, this book is fascinating, intriguing, exciting, and dramatic. Jenny has the ability to draw the reader into her world and make you want to stay until the end. Her books are long, but well worth the reading, giving hours of reading pleasure.
Another excellent story. My his is my second novel by Mz Walker, and another reason th read a third. I'm amazed at her apparent knowledge or research from the music business to the intelligence business. I can't wait to read her next work.
I did not know how to make this work. Jenny you are an amazing story teller. All the characters were great! I especially loved the owner of Angelic Splendour!! Such an enjoyable read!!!
I'm funding myself buying more and more of her books. I loved this one and annoyed with myself. I bought this book and avoided it for a couple of months. I am very happy I dug in to it.
A marvelous novel, one that, when I began, was very difficult to put down. I began again as soon as possible. This story is outstanding in character development, intrigue, and heart-warming excitement. All of Jenny Walker’s novels are at the very top of my favorite books I have ever read.
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish at times you are angry and other times sad and then there is great happiness. What a wonderful world this writer portrays in amongst great despair comes the great happiness of reunion between two sisters
I picked this up on a whim after trying the sample and enjoyed the book thoroughly, it had a well crafted plot with believable characters and threads within the plot line. I would certainly be up for more from this set of characters.
A nicely put together story set in the world of the British secret services. Steve is an analyst who yearns to work in the field. When the chance presents itself it is more challenging than he expected.
