I'm holding off on rating until I finish...which won't be until I check a few more books off my TBR list. Loved getting these 'extras'.
They bring me so much joy!!

Like with the first Short Stack installment, I won't go over every short story in this, just the brand new ones. But if you haven't read any of the shorts Lily Morton has provided that give us a little extra with each of her couples, do read this, it's great fun to just get a little more of these couples we love.

Now, there were 4 new stories, and I'll talk about those:

Gertie and the Glitch - Wren and Mateo

This one was all right, it was nice to see these two again and get a little extra. It wasn't exactly wow-inducing, but it was sweet.

Mateo was away for a few days on business, and both of them are missing each other, and it's Wren's birthday, and Mateo is surprising him by coming home a day early on his birthday.

Wren thinks Mateo will be missing his birthday and is seemingly fine with that, although he's bummed Mateo hasn't even called him.

But little does he know that Mateo has set up a whole mini-party for just them, for Wren, and also along the way, Mateo finds a cute little puppy on the side of the road that he's able to give Wren as a present.

Very adorable read overall.

A Red Ribbon - Mags and Laurie

This was a fun little treat wherein Laurie comes to Mags' work place late at night, as Mags is working late, and surprises him with a little red ribbon around his...you know what ;) and little else. A call back, if you will, to their first meeting.

It's a great call back and fun all around and we get some hot sexy time between these two. Definitely a great little short.

When Will Met Jem - Will and Jem

Here we get to see when Will met Jem during the first Blue Billings book when Blue had to ditch his tour job to go save Levi from demonic ghosts in the house and all that.

Will doesn't know shit about ghosts and facts to give on the tour - which is a pretty exclusive one, with just 4 guests, one of them being Jem.

So he bullshits as he goes along, with David, Jem's current fling, being the only one who gives a crap that Will obviously has no idea what he's talking about.

There's a spark between Jem and Will that we get to see, and Jem, who by the end of the tour is obviously done with David, even invites Will for a drink, an obvious invitation. But Will turns him down because he thinks he's not enough for Jem and that he couldn't bring him back to his run down place to have sex.

So we get to see that initial spark, but also learn exactly why Will turned him down at first. This short was a little longer, and it was a little slow, honestly, but the Jem and Will parts made up for the other parts along the ghost tour that I just didn't care about haha.

Sun Cove - Simeon and Ziggy

I was so excited to return to Simeon and Ziggy, who only got a short story themselves. This was about 3 chapters long, the longest story in this book. We get to see that Ziggy has been away the past month or so for his catering business, and in that time Simeon has made a friend with a guy whose living next door, and when Ziggy returns, he senses that the guy likes Simeon, and jealousy rears its head.

Although Simeon is completely oblivious, as he only has eyes for Ziggy.

Plus we get some hot AF sex between these two, and them reaffirming their love for each other and some other goodies too that I won't spoil.

My definite favorite of the 4 new short stories in this book.

So definitely give this one a read - it was fun to re-read some other short stories that I'd completely forgotten as well - and enjoy the new stories from this lovely author.

Can't wait for more from Ms. Morton ❤️

Another wonderful glimpse into Lily's world

Just like the first in this collection it contains four new stories and a bunch of others distributed either through her newsletter or in her Facebook group.

And, just like the first, it's wonderful to be back in so many of Lily's beloved series, but also to find sneak peeks and cut scenes from her newer works

I was particularly happy to see Simeon & Ziggy (with a guest fly by appearance from John & Matt!), as well as the extra entry with Max & Felix and my always number one couple Mal & Caden.

For lovers of Lily's stories, this is like a smorgasbord of delights.

It was extremely satisfying to get a glimpse into lives of some of my favorite Lily Morton couples. Not all stories were equally good but I loved the collection as a whole. Especially Ziggy and Simon short story - it was a perfect epilogue to their book.
I hope Lily Morton will continue writing those so rounding up

You know when you finish a really good book and then you’re just like, “That’s it? It’s done? But I’m not done with them yet!”? This is for you, my likeminded book addicts. Lily Morton always gives us what we want and this second volume of catchups with her (and our) beloved boys is no different.

Short Stack Volume 2 brings us Jesse and Zeb, my favourite Charlie Sunshine and his Misha, Max and Felix (whose story I wanted to never, ever end), Matt and John, Arlo and John, Mags and Laurie, Mal and Cadan (because The Sunny Side wasn’t enough of a visit with them for me), Wren and Mateo, Barnaby and Cosmo, Will and Jem and Simeon and Ziggy (so. much. yay!). Some of these were available in her newsletter, reader’s group and on her website, but there are also 4 brand new short stories only in this book! Since Lily always gives us an HEA – even though she might break our hearts first – checking in on them and seeing their continued happiness and any changes that have occurred once we said goodbye in the original (or following/preceding the peeks in her series) is one of my favourite things to do.

For me to get into each short story would take forever – because I literally never stop talking and this would become a novel all on its own instead of the review it’s supposed to be.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest.

I absolutely adore these collections Lily Morton puts together! It is so much fun to see our favorite characters after their story has ended and see what they are up to now. There is always a good variety of stories from lots of different characters, with some of the stories showing significant future events in the couples lives while other stories are just glimpses of ordinary life. Some of these stories have been released to email subscribers but it is still a joy to read them again in this sweet collection. I hope Lily will continue to release these short stacks of her future books! Its like getting an extra bonus chapter to the end of your favorite books!

I loved this. It is necessary to have read the character’s full length stories first if you really want to enjoy this one, but if you have you won’t want to miss this sweet collection of updates from each couple. I had tears in my eyes at various parts because even though Lily has written a ton of lovely, heartfelt moments before, she still manages to give me the feels every time.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

The Short Stack Anthology, Volume 2 is the second collection of short stories from author Lily Morton. The anthology includes stories previous written for Morton’s website, newsletter, and reader’s group, along with four totally new stories. Whereas the first volume focuses on characters from her Mixed Messages and Finding Home series, this second collection covers just about everything else. There are 16 stories in total, with the first six featuring the characters from the Close Proximity books. The stories are mostly slice-of-life moments, and often just a few scenes, though there are a few longer ones, including the three-chapter “Sun Cove” featuring Simeon and Ziggy from the short story The Stopping Place. Most of the stories seem to take place between the ending of the book and the epilogue, and quite a number feature the couples getting engaged. (Be aware that the stories and this review will reveal some plot points from the books.)

I do love Lily Morton's writing. I think this collection had a few more stories from book's that I haven't yet read than I expected. But that seems to be because I didn't realize how many of her stand alones and shorter stories I haven't read. Yay more to go back to! There were definitely a few of these couples I want to know more about.

Still I enjoyed these little vignettes. It's always fun to touch base with characters you've loved and see more of their stories.

Fabulous Characters, wonderful stories

Rating: 4.5🌈

Lily Morton’s Short Stack Collections follow our favorite couples from her romances after their happily ever after endings. What happens next? Or sometimes just before.

It’s the main question every reader and fan has wanted to know when they get involved in the lives of a couple and their relationship. We want to know what happened next?

Did some get married? What? What?

Morton has given her readers a collection of short stories featuring eleven couples from some of my most favorite romances. Some of these stories are ones I often wish had been folded into the books themselves as quite a few take place before the epilogues of the novels mentioned. Others occur after the books have ended so we get glimpses into the lives the couple’s are now leading. Happy sigh ensues.

All are well written with style that brings these characters so vividly to life, so grounded within the framework the author’s set out for them.

If you’re not familiar with these stories, you’ll be at an immediate loss here. I’ve put the book each couple is from in parentheses next to their names.

For me, the successful stories were the ones that came from those books and couples I loved the most. Apparently my favorites carried over.

The richness of their original novels and romances flowed over into these stories too. I could see them easily written at the same time. It made me want to go and pick up those books and dive back into the love affairs that made me laugh and cry and sigh .What joy!

So if you’re new. Head to the books these reference. If you’re familiar with these novels, set back and enjoy a side journey with memorable couples you have wanted to see again. Plus one very stoned Dean appearance that’s hilarious.

I’m highly recommending this second collection as well as the first.

Note:Some of these appear on the author’s website, others are new exclusive stories.

Like Catching Up With Old Friends.

I love all of Lily's work, and I'm always up for more. I love a sneaky look into the lives of some of my favourite characters, if that makes me a Peeping Tom, so be it. All of Lily's stories include good story lines that flow, believable characters, and incredibly good endings... love them!

Her short stories are as beautifully crafted, it's so easy to fall into her characters' world and become totally invested in their lives. Max and Felix have such chemistry, I love their banter. I adore how much John and Matt care and look out for one another. Matteo shows that in Wren's hands, he's putty. Ziggy grows up in this one, and stamps his ownership all over Sim, phew, totally hot reading about a green eyed Ziggy. Mal is his usual epic self. All of the catch-ups are great reads, however, what I love most about Lily is how she brings her characters to life.

They're not perfect specimens of humanity. In fact, they're far from it. They're believable cos they have human flaws (sometimes a great many), just like people in real life. This makes it easy to get totally involved in their stories, their development drawing you in, so that you feel as if you know them personally. Loved this!

Ms Morton, long may you carry on writing...or else 😉

Loved it!💜

What happens after the HEA?

Lily Morton has put together another book full of her usual humour, snark and emotion to let us know what is going on in the lives of some of our favourite characters.

When I read a book and fall in love with the characters there is always a bit of a book hangover when it’s all over so it’s a real treat to catch up with them in these short stories.

As always I was lol for most of the book, especially in Zeb and Jessie’s story, but Lily has a wonderful knack of making you laugh whilst at the same time feeling teary with emotion. She has a down to earth way of writing which I love, the characters are real and you would love to be part of their inner circle, but the emotions she injects hit you in all the feels which is why she has been top of my one click authors for years now.

I highly recommend you read this book if you already love these characters.

If, like me, you’re the kind of reader who finds it hard to say goodbye to your favorite couples at the end of a book, then this collection of stories is going to be right up your alley. This is a collection of vignettes that provides windows into the lives of characters from some of the author’s longer works, so you’ll want to have read the books in question to get the most out of the stories. I loved the chance to spend some time with each couple– many stories focus on significant moments (like engagements) and all of them feature the signature blend of nuanced characters, sparkling (and sparky) dialog, and chemistry that I enjoy so much in this author’s books.

I always get excited at the return of beloved characters. Few are as beloved as the beautiful men from Lily Morton’s books. This is the second collection of short stories from her newsletters and websites, as well as a couple of new ones. A couple of my favorites were John and Matt as well as Mags and Laurie. Charlie and Micha are always great too. You really shouldn’t read these if you haven’t read their related books because they contain major spoilers. I absolutely adored these glimpses into the happily ever afters of some wonderful characters. It is definitely worth a read. It made me feel good just to revisit them.

I love these short stack books that Lily Morton puts together. When the books end and they are really good you always want more and these novella compilations are amazing for that follow up. I get so much enjoyment from reading these little stories on characters I adore so much. Always a good read with different dynamics.

I love catching up with the characters as a whole group as well. It’s adds a different dynamic to the original books. Worth every second, and I wish there was more.

This book is like a lovely trip to visit old friends. It was so nice to go from story to story checking in on couples from Lily Morton’s books and short stories. These stories are mostly about the more recent couples, though I was pleased to see one about John and Matt, one of Morton’s earliest mm couples.

There are 15 stories here covering ten couples plus a three chapter story about the final couple. We catch up with Jesse and Zeb, Charlie and Misha, Max and Felix, Matt and John, Arlo and Jack, Mags and Laurie, Mal and Caden, Wren and Matteo, Barnaby and Cosmo, Will and Jem, and Simeon and Ziggy.

I loved reading these stories and recommend the book to all of Morton’s fans.

As a huge fan of epilogues in romance books because I want to know more about what happens after the wedding, after the HEA, Lily Morton's Short Stack books are a favorite. Here we get to see more of some wonderful characters we've met in Lily's books and that's always a treat to be savored. I'm a person who reads books in a series out of order and generally doesn't worry about sequence but here, while the writing is excellent and anyone could enjoy the stories, I think to get the full impact you'd need to have already read the books where these characters appeared. Fortunately, that will be a wonderful experience in either ebook or audiobook format.

HERE are all of the short stories and bonus chapters I've ben looking for a few weeks ago (okay, months ago, I got a little behind on things) when I was binge-reading through all of Lily Morton's book! She collected all of them off of her websites to edit them together into one collection: "Short Stack 2."

["What happens after the happy ending?

I'll list all of the couples included as well as their original novel/novella for your convenience. Okay, for mine. I know I'll be going back to reread the blurbs so I can fully remember which couple is from what book and what antics they had gotten into. ;)
Jesse and Zeb from "Best Man" (Close Proximity #1)
Charlie and Misha from "Charlie Sunshine" (Close Proximity #2)
Max and Felix from "After Felix" (Close Proximity #3)
Matt and John from "The Summer of Us" (which I actually never read yet...)
Arlo and Jack from "Merry Measure"
Mags and Laurie from "Beautifully Unexpected" (which I actually never read yet either...)
Mal and Cadan from "Spring Strings"
Wren and Mateo from "The Cuckoo's Call"
Barnaby and Cosmo from "On A Midnight Clear"
Will and Jem from "The Sceptic" (which I actually never read yet either...yikes, this is a pattern)
Simeon and Ziggy from "The Stopping Place"

It's all of the happily ever afters with all of the awkward moments and winning over family and proposals gone wrong and fluff that'll force you to get a root canal. It's a little bit of steam--and a promise of more (more love, more life, more steam).

My favorite: "Of Maps and Valentine's" / "Brighton Rock" / "The Lion Tamers" (I seriously can't decide)

My least favorite (but not hated): I skipped the stories about Matt/John, Mags/Laurie, and Will/Jem until I get around to reading their books, so I technically can't say those were my least favorite stories in this collection, but I'm going to anyway (I WILL get to them eventually).

Favorite couple: Mal and Cadan (almost always them)

I adore the way Lily Morton writes sweet and snarky romances, and getting to revisit all my favorite couples in this compilation of shorts was such a treat! Starting with the Close Proximity series and moving onto her standalone works, Lily Morton documented little slices of life, snarky discussions, arguments, and swoony proposals from the men who have already captured my heart completely. I was reminded with each story how wonderfully unique and special each relationship was, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the random situations they got themselves into. Whether I was laughing out loud, angsting over a tough day, or swooning from the romance, these characters engaged me effortlessly. There's no single theme that seems to fit all these stories, but that was part of the fun--I never knew exactly where they were headed, but I knew I could count on Lily Morton to deliver the happy ending.

Do you ever wonder what happens to characters after you finished their book? Do you ever wish to keep on reading about them, because you don't want to say goodbye? Or just revisit them real quick? Then you will probably like this book!

Collected here are a number of stories about characters previously seen in Lily Morton's books. Obviously, you wont really be able to enjoy them if you haven't read the books first, because you won't know the characters. Even if you know some or all of these stories already because Lily has shared them in her newsletter/online, I still enjoyed reading them bundled together like these. This book is just the perfect companion piece to Lily's books!

I won't get into the stories too much, because most of them are short little bits and I don't want to spoil anything. Let me just say they are sweet, snarky and all things you can expect from Lily if you're familiar with her work.

A lovely and humorous collection of Lily Morton's short stories featuring her main characters from popular stories. I loved them all but I must admit that some characters stood out in my memory more than others. And the last story featured Simeon and Ziggy, whose story I didn't recall at all so I already have it loaded on my kindle app for a re-read.

I just love this group of men who are all in love with their partners, usually take life a day at a time and find the humor in everyday situations, and look forward to a very happy future. I consider all of Lily Morton's stories uplifting but these collections of short stories are just the thing I need to walk with me down memory lane and get a glimpse of a couple's HEA.

Very well done.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Short Stack Volume 2 is the second set of short stories released by author Lily Morton checking in with some of her beloved characters from her more recent novels and short stories. These stories will make you smile, laugh and swoon as many familiar faces continue towards their happily ever afters. As expected Felix’s short was my favorite since he’s my fav from that series. You will have needed to read the original stories first to appreciate this collection.

4 stars for a fun collection of updates with some of our fav Morton characters.

If you’re anything like me, it can be hard to say goodbye to much loved characters at the end of a book - even worse at the end of a series. So when an author writes bonus scenes, epilogues, holiday specials etc I am quick to devour them. Some of these have been previously published in newsletters and some are new. It’s a second wonderful collection of stories involving our favourite men. It’s always fun when an author takes you beyond the HEA of a book and you get to peek in on their lives as if they’re IRL friends. These all have major spoilers and are meant to be complementary to the book/characters they relate to. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

The end of a story is not necessarily the end of the connection with its characters and this compilation of shorts that allows a peek into the lives of characters from a few stories was a delight. I especially liked getting a chance to catch up with Jesse and Zeb, the unlikely but adorable couple from Best Man. They get one another and their continually adjusting their way deeper into their HEA was fun to read about. Sometimes it's nice to know something about the way forward past the end of the book and this was a fun set of stories that indulged that desire.

Short Stack 2 by Lily Morton is a collection of stories about Lily's world of characters.

I have yet to read the first collection of stories, but this installment has four new short stories and a lot of others distributed either through the author’s newsletter or in the author’s Facebook group.

It is lovely to be back in so many of Lily's previous series, but also to have sneak peeks and cut scenes from her newer books.

I was happy to see the characters Simeon and Ziggy and Max and Felix.

The problem with reading these short story collections is that my memory of some of these characters is very fuzzy.

Overall these stories were cute and brought back some characters I actually do remember and love.

“Three Tries” was my favorite. It had me cackling. I adore Laurie & Mags.

He opens it and draws out the two platinum bands. He runs his finger over the centre of one. “There’s an inscription on it. I haven’t got my glasses on. What does it say?” I smile at his head bent low over the ring.
“It is part of a quote from Pablo Neruda. It says, ‘I love you simply’. It means that I love you above everything and everyone. Nothing in the world means more to me than you.”

Like catching up with old friends.

It’s wonderful to get a sneak peek into these marvellous characters and what is happening in their lives.
Some sass, some snark, witty banter and a mix of sweet and heat. Very entertaining with a few feels thrown in for good measure and laugh out loud moments.
There are many spoilers in this short story collection so please don’t read it if you haven’t read the relevant books. Go to them first, fall in love with them and then you’ll really appreciate this 2nd Short Stack
