Morgan heads to Key West and finds that she's expected to help her client with his dreams. She's not sure she's ready to spend a week out in the wild. Someone is on her trail, but she doesn't realize it until it's too late. She's on her own, and faces the danger head on.
This installment gets a low rating for me because I was just so very disappointed in how much Morgan has regressed and how much it seems everyone needs to repeat the same mistakes. Is it pacing for the whole epic series that has us repeating the same things over and over? Morgan’s insistence on always having things her way, getting her say, and demanding no one keep secrets despite the MANY secrets she keeps became almost unbearable in this book.
Up to this point, I was on her side despite her immature ways of dealing with her frustrations. This time it was almost too much. At about 70% I wanted to just quit because we were going through the same trope: elaborate “prank” to scare my point into you because I’m convinced you won’t hear me otherwise. Didn’t we do this before? There’s also her expectation that everyone else to get over things while she holds the longest grudge ever.
The way she treats her Key West client is terrible. She spends most of the series whining about how SHE wants to do things her way and when the client allows her to have time to do just that, she gets upset? And at this point, when you’ve committed your entire heart to someone and are basically engaged, you’re still going to get upset you don’t get to have sex with a stranger? As Bass pointed out near the end, it makes zero sense to be upset you got paid to do nothing.
This installment also brought the love triangle to a head and essentially ended any “competition” for Morgan’s heart. I first want to say that I’m actually really disappointed that things ended up this way, particularly since a couple of guys who I thought would end up viable contenders just faded into the background. I was really hoping for more of a competition so to speak or even a “why choose” situation, particularly given the disclaimer in the early installments. However, the tides had been definitely flowing in a certain direction for the past dozen or so books, so it wasn’t a surprise.
I really hope the next few have less of Morgan’s immaturity, but I’m not holding my breath. At this point, I’m heavily invested in the series, so I’m going to push through the remaining books to get to the end.
Morgan's past has taught her many things, but has done little to prepare her logically. There are many ways to prove a point, throwing tantrums just seems selfish and wayward to always having to be the center of attention. Since she has such a strong desire to be heard, talking things out while expressing her frustration without the anger would prove her best for real life outside of her profession. Morgan misses the simple ideals. It doesn't always have to be her way. She is quick to forget how loved she really is, and though she knows everyone has her best interest at heart...."Its my way or you'll hear my wrath!" Let's see how her life and knowledge has prepared her for yet another decision that is out of her hands.
