Coleman Ranch #3

Tempting His Daddy

Rate this book
“No one will ever hurt you again…”

Bobby Allen devoted his days to taking care of the creatures he understood best - his horses. His job at the Coleman Ranch kept him busy enough he didn’t have time to think about much outside of his animals. At least not until a trip to see a potential new mare sent him on a path he hadn’t expected.

A broken-down car on the side of the road had him making a split-second decision. One which had him telling the broken and battered young man he discovered that he could find solace at the ranch. He promised him peace and protection without ever hearing his story. And boy, was there so much more to the story.

Elton Tuffin is fifth in line to the throne, meaning he’d likely never be King. Still, there was a part to play as a member of the royal family. And no matter how much he followed orders it was never enough. He wasn’t built to fit the cookie cutter image a Tuffin should be. Especially not when he longed to be a Princess instead of a Prince.

When his secret desires are unveiled, his father decides to teach him a lesson the Tuffin way - with violence. Injured and fed up, Elton fled his makeshift prison. A flat tire halts his journey, leaving him stranded in the middle of nowhere USA. Luckily, a handsome cowboy comes to the rescue offering not only to take care of the vehicle, but to take care of Elton as well.

But all too soon trouble finds its way to the ranch. Bobby Allen refuses to let someone take the man he’s fallen for away and Elton has no desire to return home. Will he have the courage it takes to move from tempting his Daddy to claiming him? Or will duty win out over love?

Possible Triggers: Strong Homophobia, Family Abuse
Elton is a runaway prince who is escaping the torture that his father and older brothers have dished out almost since birth. His father the king, didn't want him from the time he was born and encouraged the older brothers to beat and torture him every chance they got which was almost EVERY DAY. He found solace hidden in the secret closet of his room with his pretty dresses, shoes and wigs.

The last ordered beating gave him the courage to flee hoping to find his true place in the world by running to America. How he ended up at the Coleman Ranch was ether pure luck, or some higher power was watching out for him...by sending Bobby Allen to find him and his broken-down car on the side of the road....and take him to the Coleman Ranch.

Elton was both strong and skittish, just like the horses that Bobby Allen rescues and rehabilitates at the Coleman Ranch. The relationship builds as Elton learns to trust in his safety and his new life and in his friends that will do everything in their power to keep him safe. Elton knows that his father will stop at nothing to find him and the inevitable confrontation with Elton's past will eventually catch up...but he's no longer alone.

This was a sweet, mildly spicy story with a caring "Daddy" and a "boy" who just wants to explore his feelings, be seen as himself, and occasionally show his feminine side...without judgement. He has found this on the Coleman Ranch, and he will do anything to keep and protect it...but he knows he is as helpless as he always was, against the power of his father. Like all the books in this series crossover characters, are featured but they can be read as a standalone.

It's great to visit Coleman Ranch again, where camaraderie and mutual acceptance are the norm. In this book, Elton is a prince, fifth in line to the throne in his small country. His father and brothers have always cruel and abusive, but the violence has escalated to the point that Elton now fears for his life. He's on the run, escaping to the US when a car accident injures him further.

Bobby Allen cares for abused and abandoned horses at the ranch. While driving, he comes across Elton's accident. Immediately Bobby's Daddy vibes are triggered, but he is cautious due to Elton's fragile state. Elton begins to feel comfortable for the first time in his life, enjoying Bobby's care especially, but he suffers from a lot of nightmares and fear of being found. Can these two find a permanent place together with danger looming and so much healing needed? This book has a delightful and passionate love story.

Oh boy. We’ve got the insta-love. We’ve got the weird Ruritanian royals. We’ve got the daddy-princess (or maybe daddy-boy?) dynamic. And we’ve got one hell of a plot mess.

So, our hero escapes royal family abuse in Ruritania (wait, what did these people call it? Senestra): he winds up in rural Oregon, site of daddy paradise ranch (uh, it has a real name too, Coleman Ranch). There he meets and falls in love with The Perfect Daddy, who is really excited to buy him dresses and wigs, so he can self-actualize, and then they can have The Perfect Sex too.

Oh, but there’s bad news! Our hero’s Terrible Family finds him, and threatens to drag him home so they can continue to be terrible to him (it’s not clear why). So they fly to the US, land at Daddy Paradise Ranch, only to meet lots of guys with guns. Then they decide to go home. Phew.

The writing is bad, because it can only be in some melodramatic style that feels like I need a fainting couch. Here’s Gerald talking about how lonely he is now that the ranch owner, who was his lover, is dead:

“. His pain wasn’t that of someone losing their boss and friend.
It was personal.
It was heartbreak.
And it was horrible to watch.
“Then tell me the truth, Gerald.” Atticus waves his arms out wide. “There’s nothing to stop you. We’re all here and my father is long gone. Tell us why it’s different for you.”
“Because he was my Daddy!”
Elton gasped at the words, as did the other boys around us.”

Reader, I did not gasp.

Here’s Bobby Allen (that’s Daddy Perfect to you) being annoyed that the heirs of a nearby ranch don’t want to keep it because they have lives in the city:

“Dr. Hawkins groaned through the phone line. “Yeah, his horses. I’ve got a dozen here with nowhere to go. The sheriff already called the family back and all of them live in the city. They don’t want to deal with the animals. They all intend to come down, close out his land, and sell everything. What a shame.”
I shook my head as disgust rolled through me. Nothing frustrated me more than people who didn’t appreciate and respect the land.”

A modestly consistent plot element seems to be “we must save the horses,” so, sure. But it’s also like, “haven’t you read the 24648 gay romance novels about the city slicker who inherits a ranch? Like, why exactly do you think it’d be better if these people quit their jobs as accountants or attorneys an moved to their uncle’s ranch?!”

Meanwhile, we never really understand how Elton can stay in the US. Like, in the real world, he can’t get on an airplane, because his family has put in an Interpol alert about him, and because TSA won’t let an international fugitive board a domestic flight in the US. He’s subject to deportation because he’s not magic and doesn’t have a valid visa. Etc. Etc.

These characters are really a bit more than I want to deal with. But I did finish the book.

Bobby Allen devotes his day to taking care of the horses and working at Coleman Ranch means he has little time off but a trip to see a potential new mare gives him a new path. Seeing a broken down car at the side of the road he makes a decision to stop and help. What he finds is a broken and battered young man that he promises peace and protection without even hearing his story. Elton Tuffin is fifth in line to the throne and no matter how he follows orders it is never enough. It is made worse as he would rather be a Princess. When his secret desires are discovered his father decides to teach him a lesson with violence and his property destroyed. Fleeing his makeshift prison a flat tyre halts his journey until a handsome cowboy comes to his rescue offering to take care of him. Soon trouble finds its way to him and he has no desire to return home besides Bobby Allen would never let them take him. Will he have the courage it takes to move from tempting his Daddy to claiming him? Or will duty win out over love?

I enjoyed this story and I loved the crossover of the characters from other series. I loved the way that he was adopted by the others who were more than happy to buy him clothes or protect him. Bobby Allen was instantly smitten which was nice to see him taken out of his comfort zone in the stables. I did find the solution around the attempt to retrieve Elton back home a little over the top as there were some gaps and it was a bit more of a sudden solution. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is a MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like DDLB relationship.

A.W. Scott brings her sweet Daddy romance style back to the Coleman ranch for a third installment and introduces us to Elton, a runaway prince who is escaping the torture of his father and older brothers to find his true place in the world by running to the US...

Elton is both strong and skittish, like the horses that Bobby Allen rescues and rehabilitates at the Coleman Ranch. The relationship builds as Elton learns to trust in his saviour and in his surroundings. And the rest of the ranch and friend group are there to support the couple as they work on their relationship and prepare for the inevitable confrontation with Elton's past...

This was as sweet, mildly spicy story with a caring Daddy and a boy who just wants to explore his feelings, be seen as himself and sometimes show his feminine side...

If you're a fan of sweet daddy romances, you'll want to add Tempting His Daddy to your TBR. This book features crossover characters, but can be read standalone if you wish.

TW: Violence, homophobia, family abuse - full list in author's note.

The beginning had potential but then it went kinda...meh for me. The sex scenes were glossed over to an almost mild level but then would throw in one sentence that would make your mama blush making the scene a bit disjointed. In addition, I have no idea what these characters look like. Did I skim every paragraph that explained how tall they were, what their eye color was, and if either of them had an accent? Did Bobby Allen have a slow southern drawl? Did Elton have one coming from a small European country? Where the hell is Senestra anyway? And doesn't Elton have, I don't know, potential deportation problems as well as being his family's punching bag?

Despite this things it was really nice to get back to the Coleman Ranch. I really do like the family they've created and how they encourage everyone to be their authentic selves. I was happy to see Sean and Atticus again. Plus the cover!

A prince who runs away from his castle to become a cowboy. Maybe the premise is a little farfetched (a little?). But this was actually a very sweet love story. And also the series best storyline. There is a reader warning in the beginning as one of the main characters (the prince) comes from an abusive family. But the warmth of the Coleman ranch found family and their love and protectiveness give this character much needed support.
Yes, there's still some editing issues (wrong words, sentences that need to reread to understand). The one glaring issue, while there is one mention of Dakota, he actually doesn't appear in the story at all.
The next book is set to go. And I will read it. And maybe sometime soon read the Princess PenPal related stories.

Warm and fuzzy!!

I love the Coleman Ranch! I always picture myself at their market, wandering down the aisles, interacting with everyone. This story is special. I was a little worried about the trigger warnings but I just skipped that chapter. Elton is such a special character. After everything he went through, his faith in people was a little shaky but never wavered. He was meant to be with Bobby Allen. And the princesses made an appearance, of course!! Elton is a beautiful princess just wanting to belong. With Bobby Allen as his Daddy, he definitely finds his forever family!!!

Enjoyable

I enjoyed Elton and Bobby Allen’s story. The first chapter or so are darker than most of the books by this author, but the remainder of the book is definitely on-brand and filled with insta-attraction, low-angst, Daddy/boy goodness. I’m looking forward to Harlan and Dr. Hawkins’ story next in the series.

The right place and time!

For Elton, the unexpected offer of help from Bobby Allen is definitely needed. Living and working on the Coleman Ranch may the best safe place for Elton. Enjoy this intriguing story of the power of good, open minded men and the growing, steamy relationship between Bobby Allen and Elton!!!

Loved this one!

Elton will melt your heart. He is such a sweetheart and did not deserve all he went through. Bobby Allen saw Elton for the person he was and what he needed and that he was perfect.

Bobby Allen runs into Elton after his car breaks down on the side of the road. Bobby Allen sees the state Elton is in and immediately feels a sense of protectiveness. From there, their relationship grows leading to a HEA. Spice level: 1

Bobby Allen stops to assist a black and blue young man, Elton. This leads to a scared prince visiting the Coleman ranch. Will Bobby Allen be the Daddy Elton needs?

This one’s definitely more tense than the others, but it lends to the caretaking element and makes their romance all the more sweeter.
