Discover the keys to personal financial management with the practical introduction in Garman/Fox's market-leading PERSONAL FINANCE, 14th EDITION. The step-by-step approach gives you a set of actionable items on how to save and invest, manage financial risk, plan for taxes, decrease credit card debt and reduce financial stress throughout your lifetime. Financial planning sounds easy but has proven difficult for far too many. Throughout the book you will find many "notes from our future selves", which are based on decades of research in personal finance where the authors have come to understand the cognitive and implicit biases that influence our financial decisions. All too often, these biases distract people from a more direct path to financial goals. Many math-based examples allow you to get your hands on the ideas behind trading present consumption for that planned in the future. With the latest updates and learning tools, this edition prepares you for personal financial success.
I think that every high school student should read this (text)book before graduating! I wish I would have! A lot of the content I had to learn on my own. It is a great resource for those moving out on their own for the first time!
Every basic thing you need to know about economics like investing, debts, taxes in the us, major financial decisions, etc.. is in this book. It's very detailed and organized but somewhat theoretical. It's always better to go out and put yourself in a real situation to actually comprehend things.
I took a family finance class in college and this was the required book. Great class, and I'm really glad I kept the book. I'm just brushing up on a few things.
Mostly helpful, and the boxes with tips and guidance are particularly useful. But sometimes it's too detailed or abstract, or otherwise difficult to get through. I hate money.
Great resource to buying a car, home, and for retirement tips. Joseph Marchese couldn't have been a better teacher. NPR has his radio show every week on Sundays still I believe.
