This is a good down & dirty intro to Norse Paganism in terms of basics. However, since I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Colin Fluxman on Spotify**, I have two major gripes about this book that newbies to the path would be ignorant to.

1) Look up all the correct pronunciations. In the audiobook, Colin Fluxman, makes no effort to pronounce Norse words correctly, he takes a very classic imperial approach to butchering any words that are not English in origin.

2) Since all known written sources were heavily Roman/Christian biased negatively against the Norse Pagans, there are a few of the myths that are not true when cross referencing actual archaeological findings. For example, one is the battle between Thor & Jormungundr, which is not supported by archaeological findings & is likely a made up story w/ heavy bias straight out of Snorri Sturluson's writings to pit Christianity vs Paganism, Thor representing Christianity & Jormungundr representing Norse Paganism. This is part of why the image of the "serpent" is a negative in Christian culture. Historically, the Christian Church, has demonized aspects of different cultures & appropriated other aspects to make forced assimilation an easier pill for Pagans to swallow, when they weren't just murdering non-Christians that is. In the archaeological community, it is assumed that Snorri made this story up so the Church would not consider his efforts as heretical, in other words CYA.

**My rating here doesn't incorporate my thoughts on Fluxman's performance, just the writing of the book. I do mention that I am unhappy w/ his performance in my review because it was part of my experience in digesting this book's information.

Norse Paganism - a great intro

A couple years ago I learned of the family's blood lines that went in a far different direction than previously known. Ever since that bit of information I have been reading and learning and feeling closer to these roots.

This may be a short read that only softly touches on the subject. But for me it whets the appetite, spurs the imagination, and confirms just how closely my higher self has attempted to guide me here.

For that I am most grateful.

This was a short and information packed book that is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about Norse Gods and Goddesses, holidays, mythology and runes. Told in an easy to understand way, it covers the basics and gives you enough information to go off on your own and study the things that interest you. I also found the explanation of roles of various gods and goddesses in the myths and their relationships to one another fascinating, and cannot wait to dive more into the rich and beautiful mythology of the Norse culture. I definitely recommend.

Was really nice revisiting this book. I always think we can never go wrong with going back to the basics, and honestly a few things I forgot about until I read this. Will definitely be reading it for a third time in the future!

I didn't think I had much more to learn on this topic, but I was wrong! I listened to the audiobook and my only (small) complaint is the narrator's pronunciation of some words. Other than that, this was a quick, fun read full of information.

An interesting look into Norse Paganism as a religion. I love seeing how lots of our holidays and traditions now come from pagan origins.

Ok but many annoying typos when referring to the names of the Gods.
