Iain Grant, his son Bryan and granddaughter Mia, left Sydney for the small seaside town of Bellbird Bay. Bryan had lost his beloved wife in an accident and Bryan was still deep in grief. Bellbird Bay was a place Iain had taken his family to when Bryan was young - a happy place - and he thought it might help his son get through his grief. Mia was only six years old and missing her mother - Iain hoped the move would help them all.

Bev Cooper was the owner of the Pandanus Garden Centre and Cafe in Bellbird Bay, and had worked hard for what she now had after the devastation of her younger years. When she met Bryan Grant, who applied for a job at the garden centre, she wasn't to know her life was on the cusp of change. Would happiness be found once again in Bellbird Bay?

Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay is the 5th in the Bellbird Bay series by Aussie author Maggie Christensen and I thoroughly enjoyed it once again. The author writes older characters exceptionally well - I must say all characters though, because Mia is adorable and the young men and women who are also part of Bellbird Bay are a great bunch! I'm really enjoying this series and am looking forward to #6 sometime soon. Highly recommended.

With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

I am loving this series, picking a new book up is like coming home for a holiday and catching up with such good friends, this time we see long time resident of Bellbird Bay Bev Cooper find her HEA, I have gotten to know Bev through the start of the series she is a major character and now we find out about her past and see her find the happiness that she deserves.

Thirty five years ago Bev moved back home to Bellbird Bay to care for her ailing parents, she had cut her University studies short to do this and life for Bev moved on, she opened up the Pandanus Garden Centre and cafe and has thrown herself into it making it a very successful business. Bev is caring and always there for anyone even if she can seem a bit standoffish at times, life has been good for her but when she hires a new staff member and is helping organize her brother’s wedding Bev has been thinking about her past.

Iain Grant has decided it is time to make a move to retire early help his son after the death of his son’s wife he is sure that changing the environment will help Bryan and his granddaughter Mia and Bellbird Bay is just the place. Bryan starts a new job at the garden centre and soon Ian is drawn to Bryan’s employer Bev he has not felt this way about a woman in many years.

I loved the relationship that developed between Bev and Iain there is so much heartache bought back for Bev but it also made her open up about her past which was needed and Iain was there for her, Bellbird Bay has such healing vibes that it is not long before there is much joy and happiness. I do highly recommend this one and the series and am very much looking forward to the next book, Maggie Christensen knows how to give her characters a fabulous HEA.

My thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.

Thank you Maggie for sending us a copy to read and review.
Nobody can go through life without a combination of both good and bad.
Some do a better job at hiding pain and torment they have suffered while others particularly in this era, shower it all over social media.
I have known Bev through out this series and her story comes to life in this latest edition.
Bev can always be relied on.
She runs the cafe and garden centre, a refuge for locals and new comers alike.
Warm and welcoming.
Her twin moved back a few books ago and stole any limelight from his sister.
She was steadfast and community spirited.
Bev has a past she has not shared with anyone.
Iain has arrived in town with his son and grand daughter in tow.
Immediately a connection between Bev and himself surfaces.
Bev doesn’t think she is ready or deserves happiness on this level.
Iain’s son has an uncanny likeness to a guy in Bev’s past.
It irks her and her curiosity gets the better of her.
Will the past unravel and present new challenges or joys?
I am so pleased Bev got her story, adding a few dimensions to an otherwise beige presence.
It was a story that reflects the turbulence of life and hope the future can bring.
A series that is a delight to read and each story can be read as a standalone.

Escape To Bellbird Bay - Maggie Christensen.

This is book five in the Bellbird Bay series by Maggie Christensen.
I haven’t read the previous four books yet, but I certainly will be in the not too distant future.
I was definitely able to enjoy this book as a standalone story, but I do think I would have benefitted from reading the series in order.

I absolutely loved the setting of Bellbird Bay. What a warm and glorious community.
It’s the sort of place that we all dream of making our home. Well, at least I do - the garden centre alone won me over.

Bev is a wonderful anchor character in this story. We learn about her past, what brought her back to Bellbird Bay and some hidden secrets from her past.
She is strong and likeable, with a big heart.

Iain and his family are a decent lot. They all bring their own heartache, but ultimately Bellbird Bay welcomes them and soothes their souls.

I loved the main players in this story being more mature. It’s empowering to those of us over a certain age to read about these characters in such a positive way.

Finding Refuge In Bellbird Bay, is beautifully written. The story wrapped me up and kept warm and cosy.
An absolutely gorgeous read and I can’t wait to discover more from Maggie Christensen

This book might just be my favourite in this series so far. Bev and her highly successful garden centre have featured in all the earlier stories – she was partly instrumental in bringing a few of the other couples together, especially her brother Dan and friend Ailsa, but I’d always been intrigued by her own story. I always suspected she had an edge of sadness in her past, and in this book we find out a great deal more – a devastating experience in her youth that changed the course of her life and made her particularly independent and self-sufficient. But the arrival of a new family in Bellbird Bay sees her letting others in a little – they need a refuge, as Bev did when she first joined the community, seeking a fresh start after a tragic family loss.

Iain Grant has taken early retirement, returning to a place that holds happy holiday memories, seeking to help his grieving son Bryan and six year old granddaughter Mia come to terms with their loss – and while his son thrives on the total change of direction provided by a job at the garden centre, while making new friends and throwing himself into training for the upcoming triathlon, Iain finds that he rather misses his former high-powered planning career. Rediscovering his love for sketching doesn’t fill the yawning days – and he’s more than happy to be drawn into helping Bev with a planning application for an enterprise she’s undertaking, and being on hand to help her handle some of the real issues that later arise. The book follows their developing relationship – which felt particularly authentic, between two characters I really warmed to, and with just the right emotional touch – but, like the planning application, things don’t run entirely smoothly. The appearance of Iain’s ex-wife puts a spanner in the works – but there are even more potentially serious obstacles to their happy ever after when Bev is forced to face up to her own past and memories.

I really loved this story – although I always find the author’s mature characters very easy to identify with, I felt a particularly strong emotional attachment to both Bev and Iain and the situations they were handling, with the story told from both their perspectives. But, as always, every single character in this book is a real person and perfectly drawn, whatever their age or involvement. The community gives both Bev and the new arrivals its usual warm hug of support, and it was lovely to spend time again with so many individuals who have also become my friends – although if this is your first visit, you’ll quickly feel as at home in Bellbird Bay as I always do. But this story does have a real twist in its tail – one I certainly didn’t see coming – with a particular emotional edge and extremely well handled. And running through the whole book is the build-up to a happy event that will delight anyone who read the first book in the series – I don’t want to spoil it for anyone – but perfectly integrated into the story and making its ending especially heartwarming and uplifting.

Have you read any of the author’s books yet? If not – and I’d rarely recommend a fifth book in a series as the place to start – I think this book might well be a perfect introduction to the author’s lovely writing. Go on, give it a try – you might just love this series as much as I do.

This is the fifth book in the Bellbird Bay series and having enjoyed the previous ones, I was looking forward to reading more. It can easily be read as a standalone, as any essential information about past events is included, though I would recommend reading the whole series.
Bellbird Bay is a town in Australia, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, and we get to know the area and its inhabitants over the series of books. The story begins in July and concentrates on 55-year-old Bev Cooper, who owns the Pandanus Garden Centre and Café. At the start, Bev’s twin brother Martin and her best friend Ailsa announce they plan to get married in October. Although happy for them, Bev also feels a bit sad that she is single and likely to remain so. While she has seen many of her friends find love in later life, it seems the same opportunity will never come round for her.
Iain Grant is planning to leave Sydney and his architectural practice. After his daughter-in-law’s sudden death, his son Bryan and granddaughter Mia (6) needed him, so he had decided to take early retirement and move them all to Bellbird Bay, away from all the memories. He tells his son he has rented a house there for six months, so they can see how they get on.
Bellbird Bay is the sort of community where you soon get to meet everyone, so Bev and Iain end up working together on a planning issue, using Iain’s experience in architecture and urban planning. They’re a similar age, both single and there is an attraction between them, but can they overcome all the obstacles to have a romantic future together?
I found the book very easy to get into and I was interested in the characters and wanting to know what was going to happen to them. The chapters are an ideal length and I find Maggie’s writing style to be very good and accessible. The characters and storylines are believable and you soon become invested in them. It’s also good to catch up with the characters from the previous books in the series, if you have read those.
One of my favourite things about this series of books is that Bev - and many other characters – are around my age, so I can easily relate to them and the sort of issues they have to deal with.
If you enjoy books set in beautiful locations, this is also one you will enjoy. There’s plenty of sun, sand and surfing on the Australian coast here!

I normally wouldn't do two blog tours so close together but when one is for a book in Maggie Christensen's Bellbird Bay series, there was no way that I wasn't going to say yes!

We met Bev Cooper in the first book in the series, when her friend Ailsa and brother Martin met and fell in love. Bev is the owner of the local garden centre, everyone's friend, and yet no one, not even her brother, know her deepest darkest secret. And it is this secret which is the reason why Bev has always closed herself off to the possibility of love.

Iain Grant has recently moved to Bellbird Bay in a bid to try to give his son, Bryan, a new start. Bryan's wife has recently died, and since then Bryan has understandably been struggling emotionally leaving Iain to shoulder a lot of the responsibility for his granddaughter Mia.

When Bryan starts working at Bev's garden centre, she can't help but be reminded of someone from her past, which is causing some angst for her. The other thing that is causing some turmoil for Bev is opposition to her plans to make part of her garden centre into an intimate wedding venue.

Iain decides his son Bryan needs a new place to help get over the loss of his wife. They had been to Bellbird Bay years ago and it seems like the perfect place to go.
Bev needs a part time helper at her garden center and when she first sees Bryan she can’t believe how much he looks like her love from years ago. However her baby died just days after he was born.
This book is about starting over, finding new friends and new love. It will make the perfect beach read!

What a beautiful beginning to 2023. Maggie Christensen has once again blessed us with old and new new characters on a revisit to Bellbird Bay. A wedding venue, children, grands, and friends galore come together to make this visit heartfelt and satisfying. If you enjoy mature relationships, this author should be at the top of your reading list. In addition to enjoying the town of Bellbird Bay,
the residents, and some of the businesses, you might find a surprise or two. Enjoy!
This ARC reader is happy to leave a two thumbs up unsolicited review.

Maggie Christensen is the queen of second chance romance, and once again we travel to the small coastal town of Bellbird Bay where lonely hearts awaken to love when they least expect it.
When one has suffered from Fate’s cruel adversities, there is no finer place to seek refuge than in Bellbird Bay, although it takes some far longer than others to fully resolve their pain. This is especially true of Bev. Although she has made a wonderful new life for herself, deep sorrow has been smouldering beneath the surface of this highly successful, and apparently carefree, woman.
Until Iain, his recently widowed son Bryan, and granddaughter Mia arrive in Bellbird Bay in search of a new beginning. While this delightful beach town works its magic on the newcomers, Bev is forced to confront her long-buried grief.
Amidst the flurry of wedding preparations for her brother Martin and Ailsa, Bev’s heart quietly opens to the possibility of a second chance at love. But is she brave enough to resolve the mysteries surrounding the family who have captured her heart?
You’ll have to read Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay to discover the answer.
Maggie has excelled herself with this story and I know you’ll not be disappointed, although there may be a tear in your eye at the end. A happy tear, of course.
Thank you Maggie for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay.

Absolutely gorgeous read!

Iain Grant. his son Bryan and granddaughter Mia move to Bellbird Bay
A place where Iain had taken Bryan, as a child, on holiday.
Now they're coming for six months to stay
Hopefully to make a fresh start and find their way.

The tragic death of Bryan's wife has left him bereft and down
Iain is hoping this community with help him smile instead of frown.
With this community being so welcoming, they all soon discover
New hobbies and roles, time for one another.

Will Bellbird prove to be the refuge they seek?
For Bev Cooper their arrival brings back memories that are bleak.
But her twin's wedding to sort gives her lots to do
And meeting Iain make her wonder if dreams can really come true.

A story of grief and healing,
Filled with so many different kinds of feeling.
There's even a mystery to add to the mix
And problems for new friends to help fix.

There are surprise discoveries to be made, too,
And some objections to help see through.
A truly heartwarming story for three generations who
Find taking refuge in Bellbird Bay was the best thing to do!

I've read other books in this series before
And it is great to revisit many places and characters once more.
However, each book in the series can stand on its own, so
I highly recommend you give this (and the others) a go.

Feeling tired? Sad? Weighed down? This book is a soothing later-in-life romance set in a charming little coastal town. Yes, it's fifth in the series and chock-full of side characters who have already found their happily ever after, but the focus doesn't waver from Bev and Iain, along with their close family.

It's refreshing to read about two older leads who have led very different lives with griefs and joys of their own. Bev is happy in her solitary life, though the past carries pain that is brought to the surface just before Iain comes to town with his bereaved son and granddaughter. As Bev takes steps to expand her business and open her heart, Iain and his family begin to settle in a new life and put down roots.

It's touching, heartwarming, and a much needed moment of calm.

Best yet! This latest book in the Bellbird Bay series is so good. Bev and Iain’s story had me hooked from the start. There are quite a few obstacles for them to overcome if they were going to find their happy-ever-after and that makes for a compelling and romantic tale. And then when the past catches up with the present – wow! Once again Bellbird Bay turns out to be magical and healing place.
This series just keeps getting better. Maybe it’s the fact that (if you’ve read the previous four books in the series) as a reader you feel at home in this fictional but delightful Queensland seaside town with its garden centre, café and beaches - and it’s good to catch up with the characters from the earlier books. BUT even if you’re not familiar with those earlier books, you’re still in for a great read.

Another sparkling story from Maggie Christensen. Bev the owner of the Pandanus Garden Centre and Cafe is happy when her best friend and her brother announce their October wedding. However, Bev is transported back to a memory when she was a young girl of twenty when the live of her life died in a freak car accident and the baby she was expecting was born dead.
The story has a twist in it and it and the story line make it a compelling read- you won’t be able to put it down. I loved the book and hope there will be a continuation of Bev’s story. I can really recommend this book

I'm late to the party for this series, but I was delighted to see a romance between a mature couple for a change.

Bev Cooper has been through some traumatic times in her life such as losing her fiance and then her baby. For 35 years it has created a barrier for her to become close to anyone because she's afraid they will leave her. She put all her efforts into building her beautiful garden center to keep from feeling lonely. So when Iain Grant and his broken family moved to Bellbird Bay, Bev was surprised at her reaction to her new young employee, Bryan Grant, Iain's son. Bryan was the spitting image of Bev's dead fiance and all her old unhappy memories resurfaced. Her attraction to Iain was unexpected as well. Would she be able to let someone in again?

Iain's son and granddaughter are his life now after his daughter-in-law was unexpectedly killed in a freak accident. So he took early retirement as a renowned architect in Sydney and moved his little family to Bellbird Bay which, as a child, held a special place in his heart. He never expected to fall for Bev Cooper with her quiet beauty and sad demeanor. Will his family recover from such a devastating loss? Did he make the right decision to move to a different setting?

I enjoy how Iain loves a challenge as he woos the elusive Bev and helps her build her new wedding venue by fighting a particularly nasty hotel owner determined to shut Bev's new venture down. Bev is also headstrong and won't let the setbacks deter her determination in creating the best wedding venue for her twin brother and best friend. The love story between Iain and Bev is slow but well worth waiting for. Iain is a rock for his family. He is so patient and kind with his son who is lost and it's great how the townspeople of Bellbird warmly welcome them all into their community. As Bev opens up to her friends and family about her past, the weight is removed and her outlook on life starts to change. Even better, there is an important and remarkable element in her past that links her to Iain and his family that adds to their HEA. I'll let you read the book to find out.

The people of Bellbird Bay are so friendly and easy to get to know; not like some small towns that are hard to fit into. Bev grew up in the town so it's nice to see the friendly camaraderie between locals. The location sounds gorgeous as well. I wouldn't mind retiring to such a hospitable place.

I am delighted to recommend this heartwarming, feel-good story about living in the present by accepting our past. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Thank you to Ms. Christensen for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay was a winner for me.
Maggie Christensen has a unique way to introduce the reader to new characters in this series and like them, I was soon enveloped in the close knit community at Bellbird Bay.
In this book we learn more about what brought Bev Cooper back to Bellbird Bay cutting short her University studies to help her mother care for her dying father She established the Pandanus Garden Centre and Cafe and has been content with her life and is now planning for her brother's wedding to her friend Ailsa
Meanwhile following the tragic death of his son’s wife, Iain Grant takes early retirement and moves with his son and granddaughter to Bellbird Bay hoping it will provide the stimulation and change of scene they all desperately need.
Iain’s son accepts a position at Bev’s Garden Centre, and finds the physical work helps his healing. When Bev becomes bogged down with the paper work required for applying for consent to hold weddings in the Garden Centre Bryan encourages Iain to help Bev as he has had plenty of experience over the years while living in Sydney, and a friendship sparks between them.
There are a number of twists and turns before Martin and Ailsa's wedding takes place but the Grant family soon feel at peace in the small settlement and able to move on to find happiness again
I enjoyed catching up with characters we have met in earlier books in this series and it is always heartwarming to have a happy ending for a couple taking on a second chance at love .
Thanks to the author for an advanced reader copy to read and review, it is an fulfilling read , just what I needed to start 2023 .

Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay is the fifth book in the Bellbird Bay series.
I have enjoyed all Bellbird Bay has to offer on my two visits there. Peace and solitude along the beach are here but if you'd like a little conversation there are friendly neighbors and a scenic view from the boardwalk. I think I'd enjoy a longer visit next time.
Getting to know the people of Bellbird Bay, I feel at home here and have enjoyed the characters from both of the books I've read.
Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay starts off with Iain Grant taking an early retirement and moving with his son and granddaughter to Bellbird Bay after the tragic death of his son's wife.
Bev Cooper is the owner of garden shop and cafe Pandanus Garden Centre and Café. She has come a long way and worked hard to leave her past behind and is now back in her beautiful hometown of Bellbird Bay. Sometimes as much as we want them to those old memories won't stay in the past. This is what happens when Iain's son starts working at her garden shop with her.
As Iain and Bev start to become acquainted their friendship looks like it may go into the romantic territory, but will past issues put a damper on things?
First of all, I love how the romance focuses on an older couple, not all romances are young people. Older people enjoy romance very much as well.
A truly heartwarming book focusing on friendships, trust, listening, understanding, giving second chances and family. This is a warm and huggable story.

Finding Refuge In Bellbird Bay by Maggie Christensen is the most charming contemporary novel and the fifth book in the Bellbird Bay series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I thoroughly enjoyed my return visit to Bellbird Bay.
Bellbird Bay is the most delightful seaside town where hurting lives can heal. The fresh air and a warm welcome are just what a grieving heart needs. There is the space to just ‘be’, in contrast to the hustle and bustle of Sydney.
Everyone knows everyone else. They pull together and offer help when help is needed. It is a community where no one is a stranger and everyone finds a home.
Home is not just bricks and mortar. Home is the place where you find your soulmate, your friends and you feel like you finally belong.
All the characters were wonderfully drawn. I loved the fact that the leading characters were in their fifties. Life is for living whatever your age.
You are never too old to have a new beginning. Bellbird Bay is a place to feel safe and to have a fresh start. Whether you are six or sixty, Bellbird Bay can offer new opportunities and you can feel like you have come home.
I adore Bellbird Bay. I have visited it in my head and I feel at home. I long to crawl into the book and inhabit the town. I am sorry that my visit to Bellbird Bay has ended. Roll on book six.

🌊Strong story, lots of emotion🌞

I think this might be my favorite book in the series so far (and I've read them all). There's sadness and grief that nicely balance the happy and romantic moments, and even a twist that ramps up the happy factor. All of Bev's sorrows held secret for decades made her new chance for a relationship and family all the more poignant.

But it was Iain Grant, new arrival in Bellbird Bay, who really took my sympathies and interest from the story's start. He has his priorities right when he uproots his life to help his son and cute granddaughter, but he gets well rewarded by the change.

Loved the plot, the setting and the characters. Maggie Christensen's characters come off as real people and it's great to see them move through their problems and courtship to better days.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

After having reviewed the previous book Christmas in Bellbird Bay, I was so pleased to be offered the chance to review Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay. This is the fifth book, and I can say that Maggie Christensen is an author whose writing style I really like.

Bev has made the garden centre into a very special place. I liked her friendship with Cleo and the wedding planning bought back my own excitement at my wedding.

Iain, Bryant and Mia had their reasons for needing to leave Sydney, and I enjoyed their backstory too.

The characters all have their ups and downs in life and Maggie Christensen writes all the characters so well. The novel is emotional, heart wrenching and realistic.

The pace is quick, yet each character's backstory is given the time it needs and I felt I knew the characters.

Bellbird Bay is an atmospheric town where people can go if they need to have time away from Sydney.

Thanks to Maggie Christensen, Cala Publishing and Rachel's Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

Maggie Christensen, you’ve done it once again. This book, Finding Refuge in Bellbird Bay, kept me reading until the very last page. Laughter, tears and unexpected twists and turns all within a book that is full of love and hope. And to quote from the book it’s all “Tempered by the hope of what might be to come”. I throughly enjoyed getting to know one of the main characters in Bellbird Bay, Bev Cooper, of Pandanus Garden Centre, much more intimately. As well as the joy of revisiting all the old friends I had already made. I feel as if Bellbird Bay is a place I could actually visit and have a coffee with them at the garden centre. Thank you Maggie and I eagerly await the next book.

It is Never Too Late to Start Over
This book is the fifth in a series that does not need to be read in order. Although, the reader will enjoy each book more by being aware of the history of the characters. They all have their own, unique story. And this story is unique. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Tears and smiles all through the book. It ends in such a special way! I love this author's work, especially the way she tells of middle-of-life romance.

Heartwarming with a beautiful surprise!

Bev is the owner of the Pandanus Garden Centre and Cafe and has been a minor character throughout the series. She has a very sorrowful secret she has been carrying for the past thirty-five years that even her twin brother and her best friend don't know.

Iain, trying to give his recently widowed son Bryan and granddaughter Mia a new beginning and a chance at healing, retires from his job as an architect in Sydney and moves them all to the coastal town of Bellbird Bay.

Bryan gets a job with Bev and their lives all mix together as they work to help with the wedding of Bev's twin Martin and her best friend Ailsa. Meeting Bryan brings up some very poignant memories of Bev's past. And his six year old Mia does add a lot of "cuteness" to this story.

I've loved each book in this series, but this one packs a very big, satisfying, emotional wallop! It's a beautiful, heartfelt story of love, loss, second chances and healing told by the master of mature romance, Maggie Christensen!!!

Bellbird Bay sounds such a lovely place and I really want to go there and visit and meet the people who live there! This is number five in the Bellbird Bay series but can be read as a standalone book. The main characters are Bev Cooper, who runs Pandanus Garden Centre and Cafe, and Iain Grant who moves his son and granddaughter to Bellbird Bay to regroup after the tragic loss of his daughter in law. Bev has closed herself off to love and Iain isn’t looking for love , but……This is a heartwarming story of love, family, friendship, a sense of community and second chances

I love this series, although each book can be read as a stand alone. Iain Grant, his recently widowed son Bryan, and granddaughter Mia have moved to Bellbird Bay to help Bryan recover from the depression he suffers after his wife's death. Bev, who runs the Pandanus Garden Centre and is a recurring character through out the series, is front and centre here.
