Trusting her Highlander Book 2 is series Three of a time-travel romance journey written exceptionally well by Laura Wells. I received a free copy if this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review.
This book continues where book 1 left off. Emma Forbes has travelled back in time from 2022 to 1453 Scotland. In 1453, there are no cell phones, cars, ambulances, or airlift modes of transportation. In book 1, Emma helped a man who had been bitten by a wild boar. She is a nurse in the future, and she used her skills to stop the bleeding by wrapping strips of cloth around the wound. Then she and the men travelled to the castle where they live, draping the injured man across the horse that he had ridden out on the men's hunting expedition. Emma is beheld suspiciously because her clothing is different from anything they have seen before. When they reach the castle, everybody eyes her with suspicion. Jamie Campbell, the man her father had said was a traitorous fugitive who had murdered the Laird if the land, is nothing like what her father had said. He is kind and seemingly loyal to the laird and everybody seems to love him. When she and Jamie, along with several of Jamie's men, travel to a village (several hours by horse), Emma helps a young boy with a dislocated arm. Even the people in that village like Jamie. Emma figures he is either an extremely good actor, or the history books have gotten their information wrong. Even though Emma is no longer terrified of Jamie, she begins to fret about her father in 2022. He is old and not strong enough to take care of himself. Also, she worries about the job as an ER trauma Nurse she was supposed to start the next day. She wants to get back home. She and the men had to stay overnight in the village because it was too dark to travel back to the castle. When the men are asleep, she quietly runs away, hoping to get back to her own time. However, danger lurks in the darkness, and Emma wonders what will happen to her now.
I gave this episode 5 stars, and will eagerly await for book 3 in the series.
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The story progresses with Jamie and his men escorting Emma to a castle presided over by Laird Alexander. Leaning on what she can recall from history, she must be wary of him, but his mannerisms tell another story; she can’t deny how handsome he is. Taken to a village to put her healing skills to good use, the nagging uneasiness of how she is to return to her father, and her time if she is to believe the year is 1453, weighs heavily on her mind.
This is book two in this series which elaborates upon the first, describing in detail the predicament Emma finds herself in. The sense of distrust between Emma and the group of men is obvious in their attitudes. Unsatisfactory answers meet their suspicions concerning how she came to be in the area. The knowledge she is not in her own time screams at her, but logic fights back; how could it be possible?
With the accusation of being a spy hovering over her head, Emma must do all she can to convince Jamie and his men that she is not a spy and somehow, in some way, return home.
Laura Wells has written a stimulating follow-up to book one, heightening the dilemma surrounding Emma. The chemistry flows between Emma and Jamie, and I am excited about how that develops. The story ends on a tantalising cliffhanger, with the reader gnawing at their fingernails for what is following. I recommend Trusting her Highlander for lovers of historical fiction.
Emma in the past doesn’t trust Jamie. The Highlanders took her to the village to care for a boy. Being late to get back to the castle they got a room at an inn. Emma left to go back home but she now is trapped by some men.
Really enjoying this series just like the other 2 series, each series as characters from the other series, well worth a read, really like and enjoy Laura Wells books
