The top-of-the-class, extra special 20th book from multi-million copy selling author and illustrator Liz Pichon. A feel-good, laugh-out-loud, packed-with-pictures Tom Gates story!
It's TIDY UP Saturday, but Tom is VERY busy relaxing and not helping out much.
Until he spots the art box of his dreams in a shop window and everything changes. He's suddenly focused on earning extra pocket money and helping with
EVERYTHING. But nothing quite goes to plan. Washing and shrinking Delia's clothes isn't a good start. And the hours spent carefully cleaning cars with Derek are ruined overnight when a storm hits Oakfield Town, causing even MORE chaos.
At this rate it's going to take a MILLION years for Tom to get the art box of his dreams...
or will it?

L. Pichon says that when she was little, she loved to draw, and her mom said she was very good at making a mess (this is still true today). She kept drawing, went to art school, became a designer and art director at Jive Records, and began to publish children’s books. After its publication in the U.K., The Brilliant World of Tom Gates won several prestigious awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award. L. Pichon lives in Brighton, England, with her family.
I have always loved the Tom Gates books and this carries on that. It is a very entertaining book with the numerous drawings and the stories told are immaculate and extremely relatable. I would definitely recommend this book to young readers out there.
Tom needs to get the ARTBOX OF HIS DREAMS, so he’s doing tons of boring chores , from car washing which made his back to ache , to washing the clothes( he accidentally shrunk his sister Delia’s cloths) , he goes on making trouble .But when a bad storm destroys their school library ad Marcus(the annoying frenemy of Tom )s cat goes missing ,it’s up to tom to save the day! This was a convivial book , and I loved it !The doodles just made it even better! My favourite part is when toms pants get stuck on the tree .The book was pretty awesome!
I like this book because it has information and cool things I can do. Tom's friend Dereck is his best friends and Tom's friend Normen is silly and speak funny jokes. You know that his friends all help to raise moneys for Toms dream THE ART BOX.
Dereck almost always help Tom because it his friend obviously and Tom's sister Delia sometimes she is kind.
This book has narratives like resolution, tense and setting which I like.
Every page is new. Amazing as always. If I was in his place I would have wanted the Art Box as well. I love how no matter how hard he tries, Tom leaves chaos behind. The storm was like him in that way.
As always, charming and funny, and this time with a lovely concept. It took me a while to read this volume because I read it in the original language (and I was a bit lazy in reading), I had to type in the words I didn't know in the translator, and this made me not read much during the day.... Anyway, this volume could be one of my favorites. 10,8,13,12 and 20 and especially 10,8 and 20. I was so happy when Tom got the art box of his dreams. I really enjoyed his help (although with a little sabotage at the beginning) and that he really tried to achieve what he wanted. Let's be like that. Overall, it was enjoyable. Here we are waiting for volume 19 and I am...ahead of the translations. Thank you, dear Liz Pishon.
