The Plant Enthusiast

Book Review! Indoor Plant Care 101, by Miche Ferret, is a friendly book companion to plants and their caretakers! Especially, indoor plants! Many of us see cute plants or ogle at what our plant friends on FB’s plant groups are bragging about! But not all of us are educated on these plants. Anyone 🙋🏻‍♀️? Impulse buyers! We can also become impulse plant killers. A little education goes a long way, well, ‘help’ brownish thumbs graduate into a greener thumbs 😊. This book’s approach, POV, is like what you need, a friendly read from a person that knows a little, or a lot, more than you. The author is sharing good tips, but isn’t using encyclopedia terms you don’t understand. More like a blogger, but bookish! There’s tip like choosing the right plant for your life style: plant at a desk, low light, bright indirect light? What types of soil and how much water? Succulent much? Even ‘impossible to kill’ plants. I have a different view in that phrase, but that’s what’s floating around right? People like me, who own over 100 different types of indoor plants, who find the true botanical names more appealing than the common yet so vague names, can use some pointers. Who knows! Maybe we can all finally stroll down the plant isles and say “Hey!, that’s a Tradescantia Zebrina! And NOT “inch plant” or “wandering …!”

Indoor Plant Care 101: The Beginner's Guide to Happy & Healthy Houseplants by Miche Ferret
What I like about this book right from the start is the layout.
Starts with TOC where the key points are made about plants.
Love the chapters on individual plants.
Lot of intro material about how to care for most plants. Other chapters cater to specidific ones.
Health benefits of tending to plants is included.
Like section on getting rid of infestations that are on your plants, home remedies, no chemicals.
So much to learn about the plants we do have.

great book

This book has a lot of useful information in it for anyone looking to get into owning houseplants. I always like to have books that give some information about taking care of plants handy and this book does that and goes the extra mile by explaining how to pick them out for your space as well as what plants are almost impossible to kill just in case you have a black thumb. Anyone should be able to care for house plants with this book.

This has good information, but it isn't a complete resource. Aside from the chapter on fungus, I see no mention of common problems that every new gardener needs to know. I've also managed to unalive most plants the author claims are impossible to unalive, so... there's that...
