Lane’s Destiny

Rate this book
For the best readers experience books should be read in order starting with Moonlit Night as the series is not standalone.

Once bitten, twice shy.

At 31, Lane Petersen thought he had it all together. He had a thriving P.I. practice with clients across the globe, that is, until he put too much trust in Kyle, his best friend, and only employee. After learning Jace is a thief, Lane fires him and now needs a new purpose in life. Selling everything, he buys a motorcycle and plans a solo trip cross-country before leaving Canada for good. However, he has something to do before his journey can begin; attend his mother's wedding in Pearl Lake.

Working at a printing company in Montreal, Destiny Tremblay comes across a brochure for the newly opened Inn at Pearl Lake. She travels there to look for work under the guise of a fresh start, but that's not the reason she's interested in it. Destiny heard her ex-boyfriend was in the area. He didn't steal her heart when he left, but he stole the only thing she loved, her cat Nala, an expensive breed. But Destiny needs to find him before her worst fears come true, that he sells her to the highest bidder.

Despite their trust issues, Lane and Destiny come together to search for Nala. Before long, sparks fly, but so do bullets, and they soon realize they've discovered more than they bargained for.

I'm a hater first, decent human second.
so here's 10 reasons why you shouldn't read this book:

1. This was bad. There isn't a single redeemable thing about this book

2. The set-up was ridiculous, unnecessarily overdramatic and just plain stupid.

3. The characters were stupid. Despite all of them being in their thirties or much older than that, they all acted like high school students at best, and elementary students with their first crush at worst. Idiotic decisions were made, the dialogue felt like i was watching an old disney show (the type of show jake paul would be casted in) and no one ever fucking communicated with anyone. Grow the fuck up.

4. I hate every single person in this book. And no, its not just because they alltogether share one braincell that they pass around every two hours: None of these characters is likeable whatsoever.
Not only that but most of them weren't even fleshed out in the slighetst so why the fuck did they need to be in this? And not only be in this but play an active role? Because lets be real,
I understand Abbie and Ben needing to be there for the wedding, I understand the need for Ava because of the forced proximity that came from them living in Ava's spa, I understand Kim's role as a little bit of a matchmaker but the rest didn't need to be there. I understand this is book 6 of a series of standalones about the other couples. That doesn't mean that these other couples need to play active roles in this book just for the sake of it.
They brought nothing to the table, made the book insufferably more boring and were just fucking plain.
And don't even get me started on the two MCs. More about them in Number 6.

5. The plot was ridiculous. Laughable really.
There were no stakes for me in this. I didn't give a flying fuck about the plain piece of toast that was Desi nor her cat drama (and that says a lot bc my own cats are my life) nor did I care that Lane's mother was in danger because lets be real: Lane didn't give all that many shits either, considering he was able to fuck his situationship a quarter mile from where

6. There was no chemistry between the two MCs. None.
I have more chemistry with my failed math assignments than these two overgrown toddlers have with each other. No real banter, no indication that they actually liked each other apart from each others bodies and just downright no reason for them to be together.
In an attempt to make Lane "grumpy" the author wrote him to be an immature, overdramatic idiot. This girl shows up out of nowhere, takes a job in his aunt's inn and he gets so suspicious of her motives FOR ABSOLUTE NO REASON OTHER THAN THE BRAINCELL BEING IN KIM'S HEAD AT THAT TIME that he feels the need to investigate her and be an asshole about it. He decides right then and there that he doesn't like her, because he can't trust her, because he doesn't know anything about her, not understanding that normal people with functioning social skills don't wipe out their entire life story the first time they meet someone at a rehearsal dinner for a wedding they're working on.
But despite deciding in chapter three or whatever that he doesn't like her and can't wait to get away from her and claiming mulitiple times that she's not his type at all, he goes to wanting to help her solve her problem in ch.8 and then to wanting to fuck her in ch.13 where she's suddenly absolutely his type and the most beautiful woman he's ever seen.
But don't you worry, because my man is nothing if not inconsistent becuase he goes right back to wanting to get rid of her after he had sex with her for the first time. And if you thought that would last, I hate to disappoint because of course he then, shortly after, panics at the thought of losing her. Which doesn't stop him from deciding he's going to leave her anyway once she's safe again. Which also doesn't last very long because he decided to raise the bar for all men around the world and cancel is so perfectly well thought out plans for his future that's he's dreamed about for like the past three minutes, just so he can be with the woman of his dreams who's so absolutely not his type and whom he knows fuckshit about other than that she has a cat and she's annoying.
However Lane's wasn't the only trainwreck in this doomed relationship. Destiny, who surprisingly actually has the better name of the two, was also the lesser evil. She was honestly just fucking boring. And also idiotic but who wasn't in this book? So she wasn't as aggrivating as Lane was, but I'd still rather shove a double decker bus down my throat than talking to this tool.

7. The writing was horrible. And coming from someone who gave Ice Planet Barbarians 4 stars and therefore clearly doesn't care all that much about high quality writing, this says a lot.
the pov/narrator was all over the place with povs changing in the middle of a paragraph at times. Nothing felt remotely emotional or moving in any shape, way or form and there were more typos in this book than there were in my failed french essay.
The writing was so bad, I'm convinced the author never actually proofread this book.
Like its actually kind of embarrassing, when the author writes a whole ass author's note at the beginning of her book, where she addresses the numermous complaints that have been made about the typos in her writing which she then excuses by saying "I am canadian, I write in British-english.", making it seem like the complaints about her faulty writing are sensless while also writing shit like "Lets go than"..

8. This was dryer than my dead grandmother's skin. I've had more fun reading the bible than I had while reading this.

9. This was so long for what? I'm not saying that this book would've been better, if it had been 80 pages shorter, because with the amount of things I hated about it I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't have had a fun time even then, but at least it would've been a shorter time.
Like someone tell me why there were 50 more pages after the big, bad boy was defeated. For what?
So much could have and should have been cut from this to spare everyone involved a lot of suffering.

10. The sex scenes.
Again, I read and liked Ice Planet Barbarians and I did so without flinching despite tails, spurs and ridges.. but I cringed reading about Lane and Desi getting it on. And I don't even want to go into detail..

Aquila gives us a mystery and romance again. If you are reading the series in order, which I highly recommend, you will have no clue where this book is going. I mean, how much trouble can one group get into. Apparently, it is a lot. Destiny Tremblay came to Pearl Lake to find her cat. Her ex-boyfriend knew the cat was worth a lot and stole her. Nyla was a gift from Desi's grandparents. She had to get her back. Now she had to figure out how to infiltrate Pearl Lake without the residents finding out her true reason for being there. She comes to the Inn and gets the job as a cook. She will be the one that will cater Abbi and Ben's wedding. This wedding is turning into more than anyone ever dreamed of.

Abbi has requested the presence of her son, Lane two weeks before the wedding to help. Lane is floundering a little. After his private investigation business went belly up, he has decided to explore the United States on a Harley and then settle down in Switzerland. The family wants him to move to Pearl Lake but Lane is not ready to be their focus. Lane immediately notices Desi. Desi notices Lane as well. Once Desi finds out Lane is a private investigator, she realizes he is the perfect person to help her find Nyla.

This book gets even crazier when Abbi stumbles into a heap of trouble while trying to exercise and lose weight for the wedding. So much going on but readers will love it and continue with this series as long as Aquila keeps providing the stories. We get some previous characters coming back and walking into the mess that has developed. We find some new people that I am sure will be added to the fold. This family does not turn anyone away. I think that's why readers will be so interested in what happens next. This family exudes love and the caring that they show is amazing. I can't wait to see what they get into next.

Lanes book

Lane is 31, and desi is 29

Lane is back in Pearl Lake for his mum Abbi's wedding

He meets Desi at his aunt kims inn she works there as there cook. Lane becomes suspicious of her for some reason and doesn't feel he can trust her.
They both end up staying above ava's spa where Lane eventually gets the truth out of Desi as to why she's here and offers to help Desi find her cat, who her ex stole and plans to breed
Desi isn't lanes type, but he starts feeling some type of way about her, hehe

I was quite shocked that poor abbi got taken by accident, but her family and friends rallied together to find her and save her.
In doing so, it helped bring Lane and Desi together ❤️ glad that in the end, he finally admitted his feelings to abby. The poor thing was sulking up a storm 😢

This book was really good. I very much enjoyed it 😊

Another wonderful installment in the Pearl Lake franchise.

Tim is a character I’m sure many readers have been waiting to learn more about. His humor and strong sense of justice have endeared him to me since he appeared in Moonlit Road.

Evelyn’s character has a huge evolution from her appearance at Ben & Abbi’s wedding. She was easily a character you love to hate - it would be great to know more about how she came to be with the Baron and what lead to her choices.

This book is spicer then those it follows - a enjoyed seeing Tim’s naughty side. It was also nice to read about characters in my age bracket (late 30s & early 40s).

As always, read this series in order. You will be lost if you start here!

Lane & Destiny

Another awesome slow burn from Aquila Thorne! Desi (Destiny) comes to Pearl Lake searching for her stolen cat and finds so much more! She convinces the Inn owners Kim and Dean that she's just looking for a fresh start and they offer her a job as a cook for the wedding of Kim's sister Abbi. Abbi goes missing and everyone teams up to search for her! Abbi's son Lane and Desi get a head start and end up needing rescued themselves. Will she find Nala before she is sold? Will they find Abbi? Will there still be a wedding? Read and find out! (Can be read alone or read books in order for the whole series!)

Lane's Destiny is the 6th book in the Pearl Lake Series by Aquila Thorne. Although this is part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone, though you do miss out on the character histories. This book was a little bit lackluster for me. I didn't feel a great connection between Lane and Destiny, so the overall story just felt forced to me. This book also jumped between perspectives which made it difficult to keep up with whose POV I was reading. I did enjoy seeing all of the characters from the previous books, and it was still as slapstick funny as usual.

How I'd rate:
• Overall - 3.5/5
• Plot - 3/5
• Characters 3.5/5
• Spice - 2.5/5

What I loved:
• Lane
• Supporting Characters

Lane's Destiny was a good read overall. It would be a good book to read if you're not sure what you're in the mood for but want a HEA. The characters in the book were mostly introduced in earlier books so we're familiar with more. Destiny is the FMC and I liked seeing her front and center and getting a HEA. Lane makes her feel loved and secure and attractive since she has significant self-esteem problems.

I’m sorry but I really didn’t enjoy this. Too much was thrown at this plot. It really didn’t need that much going on.
But what was worst of all was the writing. I couldn’t tell who was who and who was saying what. It felt like a minefield. It became so confusing and really was what cemented me not liking or enjoying anything.

Hard to read

The book is good but it jumps around between perspectives so much you can't keep up. There is no break between each POV which makes it more confusing. It has a good story line with potential but still needs to work.

This book was a hard read, I almost did not finish many times. I had to restart it because I had left it for so long. I was looking forward to it but I just did not connect with the characters and the story seemed flimsy. I feel that the connection was not there for the story.

I really wasn’t sure how I would feel about jumping into Lane’s story without knowing more about him from other books. I shouldn’t have ever thought that because it was great! Just like all of the other books in the Pearl Lake series! I loved it!!

Me gustó. Fue ligero, divertido y bonito. Me hubiera gustado mas slow burn, las cosas se dieron muy rápido, pero como es corto supongo que así debía ser.

Stolen Cat, Missing Person, fighting feelings

This has a mystery, suspense, family, and romance. I really enjoyed this story and since I read it out of order will have to start from the beginning happily.

This book was great. It's Abbi's son's story. Lane discovers love and where he wants to be in life. Destiny discovers more then she had planned too. It was a very well written story and I very much enjoyed it. Would highly recommend reading. Enjoy!
