Devin has accepted me as his mate. Things are perfect, except… not all the wolves want a dark fae as their luna. They see me as weak.
King Hastings wants retribution for what happened to his heir. He wants Devin dead for his crime. This might not be a fight we can win.
Despite all of that, coming to Shifter Academy is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Soulmate love isn’t always easy, but it is worth fighting for.
Devin is worth fighting for.

I'm Scarlett Haven. I write YA and NA books and I write a lot. My books are a fun mixture of romance, mystery, and now some paranormal too!

Besides writing, I also love to read anything I can get my hands on and I'm always drawn to the villain of the story. I am 29 years old and am married to the love of my life.

I'm glad to see that Devin groveled throughout this whole book. I was hoping he would and was glad to see he did. Now Tori, I need her to get some self-confidence. How are you this badass hybrid and constantly wondering why fate chose you for Devin?! Every few chapters we have her inner monologue about how fate gave Devin the short straw when it made them mates. That got annoying real quick!

I know that I normally read smut so I'm trying to keep my expectations low on the romance part. However, all we've gotten are kisses! The characters are 18, so I at least want to see them breaking the rules every once in while and maybe some first base.

I do like how the story is progressing and I'm curious to see what else we learn about Tori and how the battle will end.

I love all her books. I just wish she would finish her RH series I started reading many years ago.

Shifter-Fae Universe/Fated Mate/High School

SYNOPSIS (of 3 Book series): FC is a dark fae, hated by her father who is king of the dark fae and who is forced to attend Shifter School which have only just decided to allow shifters. Her father is hoping that she will die or be killed. Whilst at the school the FC meets her fated mate and there is an initial enemies to lovers element. The general story arc is around the development of the relationship between the FC and the MC (fated mate) and the fact that the dark fae King hates the shifters and wants to kill them. There is a HAE

The story is OK although not unique. Very little really happens and save for a few attacks on the FC most (if not all) of the story elements - excluding the romance element - happen “off screen”. By that I mean that the actual story of the dark fae King and his fight against the wolves and his daughter is described third hand. The FC and the MC are not really involved in anything dramatic or climactic to do with the main story and I don’t really understand the point of having the background story when they are not involved. The King very quickly became a psychotic caricature who just killed anyone he felt like despite the reader being told constantly how clever and manipulative he was. There was no plan or strategy. When the so called climax happens the FC is not involved at all and neither is the MC. In fact, aside from a brief 5 minute meeting at the end the FC does not actually interact directly with her father. There is then an odd dramatic bit at the end of the story which I didn’t really understand the point of. Was it to try to add some kind of shock ending? If so it was very lame and really didn’t seem to be a true part of the story but just a writers trick to attempt to generate some excitement. I found it all very odd, anticlimactic and, to be honest, boring.

The FC refers to a traumatic childhood but you never actually hear anything specific about what she supposedly suffered. There was very little real world building which made the story superficial. Also, someone really needs to tell the author the difference between using “rather” and “whether”. Yes, not sure how the author can get these words confused but there are so many usages of “rather” where the word “whether” should be used that it drove me crazy. That and the constant repetition about how the FC was going to have an arranged marriage and how she was worthless (eye roll)

Finally, to say this is slow burn is a major understatement. Whilst the FC and MC get together that’s as far as things progress. This series has no heat and no sex, just alot of “I love you, you are amazing” scenes. Whilst I don’t like OTT sex scenes it’s nice to have some intimacy shown between the couple. By book 3 I was majorly skim reading unfortunately.
