Lilly Rayman and Shifters!
It Is no secret to my friends that if Lilly Rayman writes a book, I don’t have to read the blurb to decide whether to buy it. I know I will love it, and Challenging the Alpha is no exception. It’s part of a series called Corporate Shifters, but each book is a stand-alone.
Hint: there is a prologue to this book, set in Pineville before Cord was born, located at the end of the book. It is called Her Desired Bear, and I think you should read it first. How did Cord’s mother get pregnant with a bear shifter? And why did she run away?
Challenging the Alpha is the story of Cord, who is a bear shifter, but is the only shifter in his family, and Stevie, who is a leopard shifter. Stevie works for a company called Bearheart Logging in Pineville, Oregon, and Cord, who lives in California, wants to buy the company, not realizing that his bear heritage is centered in Pineville, where his mother lived long ago.
As it all comes together, Cord and Stevie are seriously attracted to each other, as only Lilly Rayman’s shifters can be. Yummy!

Cord and Stevie’s story is an amalgamation of tropes; fated mates, alpha ascendancy, enemies to family. Stevie is a female shifter/logger and has a friends with benefits relationship with Cord’s half brother. Cord has come to town to right the wrong his mother suffered under Magda a witch with a capital “B” , and technically Cord’s stepmother. This book has it all ; betrayals, fated mates, a broken mate bond due to witchcraft ! You name it, it has it and the heat level when they finally get together is blazing 18+ years old !

I am a big fan of Ms Rayman's books, and Challenging the Alpha is no exception. Cord, a bear shifter, travels to Oregon where he hopes to avenge his mother through a merciless business deal, but his plans are placed on hold, temporarily when he meets Stevie, a leopard shifter. Their attraction is undeniable, but if Cord pursues his goal, he might lose his true mate.
As a side note, the prologue to Challenging the Alpha is a short story called Her Desired Bear, which, as luck would have it, is featured as a bonus at the end of this book. I'd recommend you read that first as it sets the scene.
A roller coast ride of a story, full to bursting with a fascinating cast of characters you either love or hate... or both... and which kept me hooked from start to finish. Easy 5 stars!

Challenging the Alpha is a great beginning of the series with Cord, and Alpha Bear shifter who meets his mate who is a leopard shifter. They are brought together by Bearheart Logging company. Can't wait to read rest of the series.

Fast paced, fated mates, betrayal, magic, shifters, all wrapped up in a well written story. A hard book to put down. I enjoyed reading it.
