Life is fanfrickentastic. I’m an independent woman working for a multi-million-dollar company where I’m treated as a valuable member of the team and not an errand girl. I don’t want nor need a man’s approval. My abilities speak for themselves.
Outside of work, gaming is my life, my escape, and I’m damn good at it. But girls aren’t supposed to be gamers. Bullshit.
For years I strived to be taken seriously, and I’m not about to let some freelance computer whiz steal my thunder. Even if he is my best friend’s roommate and hot enough to send my motherboard into meltdown. When I’m forced to team up with him on a project, our competitive natures and simmering chemistry only complicate matters. Is this game over?
Maggie loves her two best friends, her job, her independence, and her video games. She has everything she needs to be happy at forty, right? Well, there 𝙞𝙨 a certain hot looking gamer guy, Gavin, her best friend's roommate, who checks off quite a few boxes for her. He's smart, has similar interests, and he looks at her with a gaze that smoulders like an intergalactic heat ray.
The trouble is, Maggie is going to need some convincing that the slightly younger Gavin is the right Solo for her Leia. I loved the self-sufficient older heroine vibe that Maggie carried around, while still perched on the edge of my seat waiting for her to take the romantic plunge. My heart melted for Gavin with his obvious heart on his sleeve and his assertive sexuality. These two were an absolutely delightful detour from my usual dark romance vs sugary rom-coms. They balanced perfectly!
I felt comfortable with Maggie. She’s pretty grumpy but really has a vulnerable underbelly. She makes me nostalgic for the video games I used to play, Diablo, Warcraft, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy. Gavin is sweet and so good for her. I loved it: beginning, middle, and end! Ideal for readers looking for a quick, comfy read that’s like a hug from the author. And, especially for anyone who is rooting for older characters waiting longer to find their OTL (one true love)!

I have been looking and looking for a romance about a gamer girl so when I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. It was absolutely adorable and I loved Gavin so much. He made this story for me honestly. He is super sweet and caring and loves her so much. At times, I didn't even feel like she deserved him, but it's okay. It all worked out in the end. I like how the book had quite a few chapters in it following their HEA. Usually the HEA is at like the 94-98% threshold and all you get is an epilogue to answer all your questions. I appreciated getting a more thorough continuation of the story. Good on you Kirsten Blacketer! All of my hanging questions were answered and that makes me so happy. You don't often get that, especially with standalones.
I definitely recommend this story and I will be going back and reading the first book and anxiously awaiting the third book.

Who knew two gamers could come together and make a great team!
Maggie is very independent, runs the office like she's the one in charge and the guys at work treat her with respect. In her spare time she'd rather be gaming than dating. And she proves just what type of gamer she is right from the beginning. A drop-the-mic moment!
Gavin loves gaming and most don't take him seriously nor do they realize just how brilliant he really is. But that's okay, he'd rather keep certain skills to himself.....unless you're in a closet-sized room where the business keeps their main computer system.............don't worry....you'll get it later.
Loved this story. Full of snarky humor and surprises on this hero. Not all superheroes where capes...remember that. (wink * wink) I was gifted with an ARC and wanted to post my opinion.
This was such a cute love story, I really loved how Gavin never gave up on Maggie. They truly brought out the best in each other, especially when Gavin helped her with her dreams. If you are looking for a romance with a HEA then you should check out this book.
