The House on Dead Man's Curve

Rate this book
An American Writing Awards 2022 Finalist in LGBTQ Fiction and Fiction - Thriller Adventure - This new ghostly tale with thriller scares takes place in a haunted North Carolina Airbnb - with paranormal ghost adventures inspired by true otherworldly experiences. The team of ghost hunters encounter the Halloween investigation of a lifetime - filled with adventure, suspense, mystery, cliffhanger chapters, and the dark horror surrounding the haunted Airbnb they’ve rented for the week on Dead Man’s Curve. The haunting stories uncovered during research and the - at times - intense supernatural activity encountered during the nights, lead to extreme tensions within the seemingly possessed house.

Set in the author’s hometown of Statesville, North Carolina, and broken into 7 days and nights of ghostly chatter, sounds, and unexplainable activity is intertwined with local sites, historical ghost lore, and hauntology. Their stay reaches a critical climax when the cryptic history of the house is discovered. Surrounded by a creepy solitude of darkness along a pitch-black winding country road, the investigators must decipher messages from the insubstantial evidence collected – bringing them face to face with the unexplained, murder, sacrifice, myths, and the occult.

The author, a paranormal investigator himself, provides a dark captivating story that keeps readers trapped with little chance to escape.

What a great book with a twisted ending. Really did enjoy reading this one because you never new what was going to come at you from around the bend.

I was gifted this book by a dear friend, that’s actually friends with the author. So it was a must read. Took me a minute to get to it though.
As soon as I read the setting was Winston Salem I knew it was going to be a haunting and/or ghost(s).
NC has its fair share of haunted places.
Book starts kind of slow. The main protagonist is a green paranormal investigator. He’s a bit too eager and does his best. He likes to show his partner up with his learned knowledge. And she, Emily, just rubs it off as Tyler being immature or inexperienced at the job.
About the last 100 pages, the story really picks up and the Neil Gaiman vibes come to life. Reminded me of The Graveyard book by Gaiman.
Not a lot of literary fodder. Dialogue was he said, she said a lot. But by the end the author seems to tighten up on some of that.
And the Harry Potter reference…let’s just say I kind of waited the whole book for it.
Good job with the book. Can’t wait to read the second book.

The House on Dead Man’s Curve is a chilling, atmospheric thriller that delivers equal parts suspense, mystery, and supernatural terror. Jason Roach, drawing from his own experience as a paranormal investigator, crafts a haunting tale that feels eerily authentic blurring the line between fiction and reality in a way that keeps readers hooked from start to finish.

Set in a secluded North Carolina Airbnb, the story follows a team of ghost hunters who expect a routine investigation but find themselves facing the Halloween investigation of a lifetime. Over seven eerie nights, they uncover chilling secrets buried within the house’s tragic history, all while strange noises, ghostly figures, and unexplainable occurrences test their courage and their sanity. Roach masterfully builds tension through cliffhanger chapters and vividly described paranormal activity that keeps the reader on edge.

Statesville is my home town so I picked this up wanting something fun in a setting I am incredibly familiar with. I was not expecting a book that I hated being taken away from for silly things like work! The haunt is great a creepy. The author really lets you know the characters, their flaws that may be strengths at times. The backstory is too much fun. Just when you think you have it figured out it turns! I am still coming to terms with the ending. Looking forward to more from this author!

Wow! I got this book because I know the author and like him a lot. That truly didn't effect my review. The book was downright creepy. I had to put it down at times (near the end) to straighten my mind back out. The story moved at a nice pace and the ghost hunting was realistic without being hokey. But when the story twisted, it really did. Never saw the ending coming, which is rare for me.

Now I have to convince myself that I really do want to go on the next ghost hunt.

The book has a good plot line but the characters weren’t very well developed and some of the dialogue was cringey. I found the main character a bit annoying but other than that it was a pretty good debut novel

A Paranormal Mystery that will keep you on your toes, The House on Dead Man’s Curve was a great book. Suspenseful and thrilling, I enjoyed the ride all the way to the end…where the plot takes a “deadly” curve 😈

The fact that the location of this story was in the part of North Carolina I live in was interesting. Sadly, that was about it. I am somewhat surprised at the high Goodreads rating; obviously other people enjoyed it more than me. And the ending – well, don’t even get me started on that.

I live close to this dead man's curve in Statesville. I've always heard the house nearest there is haunted. Book was interesting, but ending was strange.
