Sofie Darling

USA Today bestselling author Sofie Darling’s passion for historical romance began in middle school the moment she cracked open Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. An instant and enduring love affair was born.

Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every romance she could get her hands on. Once she realized she simply must write the books she loved, she finished her English degree and set pencil to paper. (Ticonderoga #2 is her quill of choice.)

When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, Sofie enjoys a nice weekend hike, a visit to a crumbling medieval castle whenever she gets the chance, and a slightly codependent relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

"My penchant for wickedness extends to rooms where I find myself alone with you"

Wow! This book is my favorite in the series. From the previous books, we know Juliet is the cousin of the Windermere siblings and has been living with them since her parents passed away in a tragic carriage accident. She likes to hide in the background and is faraway from the center of attention, preferring writing to talking. Juliet has always harbored a secret infatuation for Lord Kilmuir, Rory Macbeth, but has not told a single soul. Rory, a large bulk of a Scottish Laird, always saw Juliet as his best friend's cousin. He even compares her to another girl he was interested in! However, all his feelings start changing when a gathering brings them in close proximity.

Rory is a just a large Scottish man that failed to notice what was right in front of him. His character is so pure and honest. And then Juliet! I loved Juliet's character. She is someone who knows what she wants. She's also built a wall around her and enjoys blending in more than standing out. The romance and tension between these two was such a treat to read. I'll definitely be going back to reread this one.

I cannot wait to finally learn about Delilah's story in the next book!

Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade publishing for this e-ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

While the story seemed to move very fast, I was able follow closely along with the story. The number of characters were quite entertaining. I loved the part where everyone had to participate in the play. I thought Delian ran everyone as she was like a general. The cute lot romance was charming and very sweet.

This is my 15th book by Sofie Darling. I just started reading her December 31, 2024. I am so glad I asked about her in my steamy FB group because she is definitely steamy and gets such great depth with her characters and her storylines. Plus I love a good book cover and she has such pretty book covers. 😊

It has been awhile since I've done this but I love Sofie's writing so much, I read alll 7 books in her Shadows and Silks series back-to-back. I then got all her series, All's Fair in Love and Racing and read those back-to-back. Now I have started this series and I will read all the books back-to-back. It will be sad when I have no more of her books to read.

This was not my favorite in the series. The story was a bit boring and I actually thought Juliet and Rory were kind of boring. Which was surprising because Rory didn't seem like that in the other books. He seemed more mysterious. Just a boring couple. AND strangely enough I felt Delilah had way more story that she probably should have for not being the main character. I know her book is next but still I felt she was given too much story. Good read but a bit boring.

Two years ago whilst in Italy Miss Juliet Windermere thought the man of her dreams was going to confess his love for her but she gets a declaration that she looks like the woman of his dreams…who is currently a thousand miles away—in Scotland. Two years later Juliet & her cousin Delilah are staying with friends in Scotland, where Lord Rory Macbeth, Viscount Kilmuir, has no thoughts of wooing the girl next door. But Juliet doesn’t know that. Rory’s sure she’s never liked him, but when the talented poet says she’ll help him win his true love, he begins to see a whole new side to her.
The third book in this delightful series & my favourite so far, a well written lovely romance. I'm not sure who wooed who but the chemistry between Rory & Juliet just got hotter & hotter. I loved the verbal banter between them & how his turn of phrase was often so funny. A quick read which I read in a sitting & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA

Magical Fairy Glen, Poems, Romance:
The beautiful beginning of this story had me intrigued from the start.
A slow building romance was my favorite part as I grew impatient with the plot and happenings of the performance of a play.
The romance between the elusive Juliet and the charming
Scotsman Rory held my interest. I enjoyed their flirtatious banter and heartfelt confessions.
The intimate scenes are well written, and I definitely needed my lady's fan close by.
The dog Clootie was a nice touch in the story.

Juliet Windermere has been besotted with Lord Rory Macbeth, Viscount Kilmuir, for many years. He's never really noticed her until his neighbor's supper party in Scotland. All it takes is one moment for him to see her and know that his heart will never be the same. Juliet makes a decision to seduce Rory. If this is her only chance to be with him she will take it. Only he must find a way to convince this independent lady she is all he wants. A courtship with Shakespeare and the magic of Scotland. A very easy read.

Another wonderful addition to those Wild and somewhat unconventional Windermeres. This is Juliet’s story, as she travels to the Scottish Highlands and comes face to face with the Scottish Viscount she has long had an infatuation for. Only this time he really sees her for the first time wondering how he could have missed how beautiful and talented she is. Their romance takes off like skyrocketing fireworks! The dialogue is witty and charming, the banter, sharp and clever. A most enjoyable read!

I am absolutely loving the Windemere series, and I predict other readers will feel the same! Each heroine has her own vibrant personality, and every story is crafted with care and elegance. The author’s writing is a delight—her prose flows effortlessly, painting vivid scenes and evoking the tender emotions of her characters. Her ability to balance humor, passion, and heartfelt family moments makes this series such a joy to read.

Juliet Windermere, the quieter cousin among the lively Windemere family, is a heroine you cannot help but cherish. After losing her parents in a tragic carriage accident when she was young, Juliet found happiness tucked within the love of her cousins and the solace of her poetry. Content to let others shine, she quietly nurtures her own dreams, including a secret, long-held affection for Lord Kilmuir—Rory—her cousin Archie’s friend from Eton.

When fate brings Juliet and Rory together in Italy, her hopes flutter that he might finally see her. Instead, he unwittingly wounds her heart by comparing her to Miss Dalhousie, the woman who once rejected him. Determined to bury her unrequited love, Juliet resolves to move forward. But everything changes in the Scottish Highlands, where family and friends gather to welcome guests and Rory returns to claim Baile Ìm. Seeing Juliet anew, Rory is struck by her quiet beauty and the depth of her spirit, wondering how he ever overlooked her.

Juliet hopes that writing the poem will finally end her stubborn crush on Rory, but instead, their collaboration sparks unexpected discoveries and brings them closer than ever. Rory finds excuses to spend time with her, while Juliet struggles to shield her heart, only for their shared confidences and slow-burning attraction to dismantle her careful defenses. From playful moments to a kiss in the rain, their connection deepens into a delicious friends-to-lovers romance. And when they finally give in to their feelings, it’s clear they are meant for each other, no matter what Juliet once believed.

This charming novel bursts with humorous moments, witty banter, heartfelt family bonds, and tender poetic interludes. This charming blend of heartfelt family bonds, quiet longing, and a heroine who is more than meets the eye makes Juliet’s story as captivating as the series itself. A beautiful addition to a series I cannot recommend enough!

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this story; this is my freely given opinion.

I really enjoyed the story of Rory MacBeth, the Viscount Kilmuir who has been a best friend of Archer for years, and Miss Juliet Windemere, the poetess cousin who is used to making herself not be seen.

Juliet has a rather inconvenient problem in that she has been infatuated with Rory for years. However, she thinks he is still in love with another, a woman who rejected his proposal previously, and he doesn't see her as anything more than his friend's cousin, and friend. His lack of notice of Juliet herself is hammered home when he makes a declaration that she reminds him of his lady love from home.

Thus Juliet tries to keep out of his attention and works hard to hide her inconvenient infatuation. She and Delilah end up travelling to Scotland to visit with friends, which also happens to be the family of Rory's prior object of his affections. Juliet is looking for inspiration for an epic poem about a Scottish heroine, and Delilah decides that she must put on a Shakespearean play. Rory's estate borders the estate they are staying at and as they spend time together, Rory realizes there is much more to Juliet than he had noticed before and he is deeply intrigued by her and her writing. Juliet thinks he is still in love with the other lady and decides that she would help him woo her, thinking this will help end her infatuation with Rory. What she does not realize is that he is becoming infatuated with her, and he uses her plan as a ruse to get closer to her, and they are friends who become lovers.

I liked the vulnerability and sweetness of both these characters. Rory is sweet and a bit awkward at times such as his own horrible poetry (oh that proposal!!! Oh... the horror!), but endearing in how he admires Juliet's ability to write. I love the bit about Hamish and how Rory sings to him. His wooing of Juliet is terribly ass-backwards, with the friends to lover, and quite steamy sex, with her thinking she is still helping him eventually win the heart of another, while he is trying to figure out out to tell her that it really is her that he is interested in. Awkward, but sweet in a way.

Miss Juliet Windermere harbors a secret infatuation for her cousin’s friend, Rory MacBeth. She is determined to let go of those feelings when he remarks that she resembles the woman he likes back in Scotland. Juliet accompanies her cousin to visit family acquaintances in Scotland, whose lands ironically neighbors Rory’s. She offers to write a poem for him to help win the affection of his lady. Juliet’s good intentions turn awry with a kiss in the rain. Will Juliet be able to let Rory go once he wins his lady’s regard?

Lord Rory MacBeth, Viscount Kilmuir always believed that Juliet Windermere disliked him. He decides to no longer pursue his beautiful neighbor after she rejects his marriage proposal. When the Windermere comes to visit his neighbors, Rory starts to notice Juliet. He also discovers her talent for writing poetry and stories. Rory accepts Juliet’s offer of help, so he can spend more time with her. Can Rory convince Juliet that SHE is the one that he wants, not his neighbor?

In the prior two books, it is evident of Juliet’s one-sided infatuation. And Rory being oblivious. That build-up in the background made me anticipate their story!

I like how Juliet is the less “wild” Windermere. She does possess a wild streak; however, her reasonable nature holds it in check. There are moments when Juliet allows it to peek through.

Rory, and his demeanor, always made me think “gentle giant”. He did not portray the whole coarse Highlander mentality or arrogance. I adore how Rory took his responsibilities as a titled noble seriously. He did not shirk the duties onto a servant but became hands-on in running his land.

MISS WINDERMERE WOOS A HIGHLANDER is the fourth book in Sofie Darling’s historical romance series, WINDERMERES IN LOVE. This story, along with the previous three, is short (novella length) – which allows them to be a quick read. Like the others, I finished this book in one setting. Sadly, the couples from the other books do not make appearances, just mentioned. And the annoying Oliver Quincy plays a part in the story.

Delilah and Sebastian are next. I like the tangible tension growing between them in the background. I cannot wait for it to be explored thoroughly in their book!

Miss Juliet Windermere has lived with her wonderful cousins, since her parents were killed in a carriage accident when she was very young and she has enjoyed letting her cousins be in the limelight while she blended in or just disappeared from the center of attention. Her interests lie in writing and being able to personally feel the poetry she loves to create. She is happy with her poetry and family life, but she has been secretly besotted with Lord Kilmuir since her cousin, Archie, brought him home from Eton, years ago, but Kilmuir never notices her.

Lord Rory Macbeth, Viscount Kilmuir and future Sixth Earl of Carrick, is now back in his homeland of Scotland to make his father proud - he gave up the society life he had with Archie a year ago to become a future Laird at Baile Ìm, that his father gifted him. He loves his Baile Ìm, is happy to be here building his future in Scotland - he is a kind, honorable and down to earth man that loves his life. But then it happened, Miss Juliet Windermere appeared in his life. He hadn't seen her for over a year and she was different, why hadn't he noticed her all the years before this?

Rory is attending a supper party at this neighbor's estate and Juliet and her sister, Delilah, are visiting Delilah's mother's friend, Mrs. Dalhousie, Rory and Juliet are reunited there. In the beginning Juliet made sure to keep her emotions in check, so Rory or anyone doesn't discover her hidden feelings for him, and Rory may never have noticed Juliet before but when he finally saw her, the real Juliet, he couldn't keep his feelings at bay. This had so much humor and fun - I particularly laughed out loud at Rory singing a lullaby, in a field of long grass and poppies, to Hamish, the shaggy, grumpy, old Highland Coo because it was Hamish's favorite song, and he would be upset until Rory sang it to him!!! Don't miss this series, wonderful family, great stories with humor, emotion, spice, romance and love! Miss Windermere Woos a Highlander by Sofie Darling is a part of the wWindermere in Love series. It was not as if Juliet had not known Rory forever. He was a school chum of her cousin, Archie, and had been in and out of the family for at least ten years. She had had a crush on him for that entire time. But, now she was grown and it was more than a crush. She was aware of this man more than she ever had been before. He wanted to marry the daughter of their hosts. He had proposed to her with a poem and once Juliet heard the poem he had written she understood why she refused him. But, she could help. Since she didn’t plan ever to marry, the least she could do is help someone else to their happily-ever-after. She was here for research but she could fit it in. She, herself, was writing an epic poem about Scottish heroine, Scathach. He offered to show her some places that might set the mood. What came next was inevitable.

This story moved really quickly, aside from the aforementioned ten years. Juliet was a good character: very independent and self-possessed. She was determined never to marry and had the financial means to do just that. Rory, Lord Kilmuir, was a big, brawny Scot with flaming read hair and a close cropped beard. He would turn any maiden’s head. He confounded himself by admitting he had never noticed how absolutely beautiful Miss Juliet Windermere was. Now he saw her and could not restrain himself. He was a font of useful knowledge, which also attracted Juliet. There was not a whole lot of plot involved, mostly heat. It was a fun read, though. Fits with the rest of the series.

A Fun Steamy Read

Julia Windermere had fallen for Rory, Viscount Kilmuir years ago and whilst in Italy she had decided after he mistook her for someone else to forget about him.

But the heart wants what the heart wants and two years later they meet again and when he found out she was a brilliant poet, she said she would help him to woo Miss Dalhousie who he mistook her for years before, but Rory didn’t really want that he was more attracted to Julia.

In order to get to know her better, he agreed to the poem and when he realised she couldn’t resist him they became lovers. To get this perfect woman to wife would be a challenge he wanted to embrace.

OMG this story although very romantic and steamy had me in stitches. What a guy Rory was. I loved his character and how he got stuck into everything within his manor and helped out. This has to be the funniest most romantic read I’ve read in a while. I’ve really enjoyed all the books in this series but this has to be my favourite. What a page turner and so full of fun one of my favourite moments was when Rory began singing a lullaby to an old cranky cow, simply genius!

I loved the banter and attraction between Delilah and the Duke of Ravensworth, it had me laughing out loud in places and I cannot wait for their own story. The frustrated passion the Duke had for her came through quite brilliantly and added to Julia and Rory’s story quite beautifully. It’s worth more than 5*

Juliet and Rory - 4,5 stars

I enjoyed this lighthearted friends to lovers, cousin’s best friend romance. The plot is very well written and has a good pace, very likable characters, emotion, humor and steamy love scenes.
I already knew the characters from the previous books in the series. Juliet is a strong, quick-witted personality who likes to stay in the background and knows what she wants, and Rory is a sweet and down-to-earth cinnamon roll hero with a charmingly wicked side. I really liked the banter and the sizzling chemistry between them.

For a long time, Miss Juliet Windermere has been in infatuated with her cousin Archie's friend, Lord Rory MacBeth, Viscount Kilmuir, but he never noticed her and wanted to marry Miss Dalhousie, who rejected his proposal. Now the poet is visiting the Dalhousie family in the Scottish Highlands with her cousin Delilah to find inspiration for her new work and meets their neighbor Rory again.
Juliet decides to help Rory woo Miss Dalhousie in order to get over her infatuation once and for all. What she doesn't know, however, is that Rory has noticed her talent and beauty for the first time and is over his crush on Miss Dalhousie. So he plays along in order to be close to Juliet and win her heart...

All in all, a great addition to the series and a sweet and spicy quick read with appealing characters, that I'm happy to recommend.

This is the third installment of the series Windermeres in Love. I have enjoyed the previous books thus far, and this one also did not disappoint. Juliet has been living with her Windermere cousins since her parents passed away in a tragic carriage accident. She likes to keep to herself, and prefers not to be the center of attention. She has secretly admired Rory from afar, but Rory only sees her as his best friend's cousin. He even went as far as to compare her to a sweetheart back home in Scotland and told her she looks like her. When she travels with her cousin Delilah to Scotland, she sees Rory again. She helps him in his efforts of wooing his love, and in the process Rory begins to see Juliet in a new light and he sees clearly now what was right in front of them all along. The tension and chemistry between these two was strong and I loved seeing the romance blossom between them. Their interactions and witty banter were also a treat to read. Love the series and this is a great addition!

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

Miss Juliet Windermere has always been drawn to the handsome Viscount Kilmuir. Even since Archie brought Rory home from school, Juliet has known she had feelings for the Scot, but has never acted on them. And just when she thinks she might be ready to show herself to him, he tells her how alike she is with the woman who refused his proposal. So now, Juliet is ready to forget all about Rory, and her feelings.

I really liked this book. After seeing the couple in the previous books, with Rory seemingly obvious to Juliet's feelings, it was lovely to see how he saw her in a new light while together in Scotland. Juliet loves poetry, and is quite the poet herself. When Rory comes across her writing, and reads some of her work, he's awed and starts to see a new Juliet he never expected. Rory had always thought that Juliet hated him, and learning more about the true Juliet makes him fall, and fall hard. It was great to see the hero fall first, and though the way he went about wooing Juliet might not have been great, it was well worth it in the end. Now, I can't wait for book 4, and hope we see more of our couples when Delilah and Ravensworth have their time.

Juliet has been infatuated with her cousin’s friend for years but he has never truly seen her and at their last meeting he compared her to another, hurting her feelings. A year later she and her cousin Delilah are in Scotland staying with family friends. Unfortunately for Juliet, Rory is also there but when she discovers the atrocious poem that he had written to woo Miss Dalhousie two years previously, she proposes that she will write him a new one. Rory is over Miss Dalhousie but is now seeing Juliet in a new light, convinced that she doesn’t particularly like him he goes along with her suggestion, in the hope that in spending time together she will come to see him in a new light. A Shakespearian twist to rival the play put on by Delilah to honour their host’s wedding anniversary!
I enjoyed this story but I did find it rather strange that Juliet wanted to bed Rory believing he was desperately in love with another woman. You would have thought she would worry that he was using her as a substitute/poor second choice.

I found Juliet to be a hoot! Love a woman who knows her mind, speaks her truth, and isn’t afraid to go for what she wants. Rory was a little slow on the uptake, but once he caught on, he was all in. There’s some serious heat here-get your fans, friends. These two seriously complement each other with their straightforwardness, love of family, and belief in the other. The Windermere’s bring a good time to every story, and this one was a true pleasure. I loved the beauty related to the written word the author hulled out in this story-“words on paper were merely their potential. To reach the fullness of their expression, another person had to experience them, and only then could the piece be complete.” As someone with a love of reading, this made perfect sense. Lastly, there are multiple lessons here for all women, but one that stood out to me-“The ways powerful women can become pitted against one another in a patriarchal society, which only serves to benefit and uphold that system.”

I gratefully received an ARC copy, but all opinions are my own.

Rory and Juliet

Definitely my favorite of this series. It incorporates humor, intelligent rapport, fabulous characters and lots of steam. Under the misguided notion that Rory Macbeth was still enamored with a miss who refused his proposal, Juliet Windermere’s long held infatuation with him quickly extinguished. The two meet again after the Windermeres leave Tuscany to socialize near his home in the Highlands.
It is under this new umbrella of romantic Scottish scenery that the two come to view each other in a different light. Read how the surrounding landscape, the antics of supporting characters, and the reappearance of Rory’s “almost” fiancé launches him and Juliet into each other’s arms.
The author provides a whimsical touch with cousin Delilah Windermere trying to cast and direct a Shakespearean play, while poetess Juliet plays Cyrano to help Rory woo another. It truly is a comedy of errors. It’s a five star 🌟 keeper. I have received an ARC from the author and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.

The overthinker and her saucy Scottish swain.
A quiet and observant introvert, Juliet is nothing like her boisterous Windermere cousins, and ever since Eton, Rory has been Archie Windermere’s wingman and best friend.
She’s had a well-disguised crush on him for years. He believed she disliked him, but carelessly comparing her to the woman he sulked over for a year was not his smartest move.

When the Windermeres returned from exile in Italy, he slunk of home to Scotland.
Now, a year later, she’s resigned to an independent life, and he a self-reformed rake running his father’s minor estate – and let his neighbour’s house party be the place their paths cross once again...
Her crush roars back to life, and he has an epiphany of the heart.
She believes him to be pining still for their host’s daughter.
He couldn’t care less... but how to woo stand-offish prickly poetess?

Breathtaking scenery, Shakespeare references aplenty, her offer to be his Cyrano, his hidden agenda, one eager pup, runaway piglets, coo lullabies and a hidden waterfall.
A summer rainstorm, one night at his abode, and a private dinner followed by very intimate desert.
Fairy ring confessions at a country dance, and a theatrical production gone rogue.

Yes, theirs is a backwards, twisted up, naughty, fun and lighthearted lust-to-love courtship. He turns himbo-in-love and makes a delicious mess of things, but doesn’t flee the scene, and she, with an unexpected nudge, closes the deal.
This was quick, witty and utterly delightful! Not quite as exuberant as the two first books, but then again, I think the softer mood might suit these two very loveable souls better...
Anyway, with all the Easter eggs scattered throughout, I’m now eagerly anticipating the fourth and final book! Lady Delilah and her Duke are sure to be on fire, and I can’t wait!

This highly entertaining and witty romance had me hooting with laughter as the pragmatic Lord Rory Macbeth baffles his way through the complex web of feelings that have been aroused by Miss Juliet Windermere. Rory thought he was in love with Juliet's cousin, but after she rejects him, he discovers that the woman who really turns his life upside down is Juliet. He has unfortunately offended her, but for the life of him cannot work out what he has done to cause a grievance. With a house party underway and her cousin's determination to put on a Shakespeare play, the scene is set for every kind of disaster. Fortunately, both Rory and Juliet finally meet halfway and recognize the gift they have been given. I received a copy of this most enjoyable novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The Windermere family have a way of rooting in your heart. I was probably most intrigued for Juliet’s story. Being the Windermere cousin, the notable Windermere outrageousness is somewhat quieter in her. She is a woman of cool composure with a poet’s heart. True to the Windermere name though she is led by desire, the desire to create and the desire to love and be loved. Having been half in love with Kilmuir for more than a decade, when he finally, truly, sees her, it throws her off her game. Watching her come to grips with his growing affection is incredibly entertaining. It wouldn’t be a true Windermere story without a little scandalous behaviour and shocking confessions. Rory proved to be the sweetest of heroes, utterly charming and loveable. This entire story was delightful and lighthearted. I loved it!

Trying as hard as she can to ignore her long-standing attraction to her cousin’s friend Rory proves especially difficult for Juliet when they end up crossing paths in Scotland. Their shared love of poetry gives Rory a chance to be in Juliet’s company as often as possible. Juliet thinks she’s helping him woo a neighbor, but it definitely isn’t the neighbor he wants to woo.
This is an entertaining, witty romance I couldn’t put down. It was fun to puzzle out how they were going to navigate through all the bumbling & misunderstandings.
I really like how each member of this unconventional family has such a different story in this series.

Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read & review an advance copy of the book.

So honest and lovely

Another winner from this series! I just can't get enough of these daring Windermeres!

This is the story of Juliet, the quiet, poet cousin, who had a girlish crush on Rory, her cousin's best friend. Who now own an estate in Scotland and is as highlander as it gets, with his big body and his big heart.

I already loved both characters from the previous book and reading about them together was both as a surprise and a delight. They are great for one another, their encounters are hot and warmly intimate. But most of all, I loved how honest they were with one another, there was no pretence and no acting, no agenda but to be together (despite the matter that drives the story).

Loved it!

I have really been enjoying this series from Sofie Darling and this latest installment is another enjoyable read. FMC Juliet is the quietest of the Windermere clan, but the quiet hides her poet's soul and a quick and clever wit. MMC Rory is just such a great character. I have never used the term "book boyfriend" before but I do think Rory might be mine. This is a low angst, quick read. No big villain or evil, just two people sorting through their feelings about each other. Their banter is amusing and the side characters just as entertaining as the main ones. I can't wait to read Delilah and Ravernworth's story. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5.

Thank you to Dragonblade and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.
