About the author

I have always loved to write, and while I did not pursue writing as a career, my profession allowed me to cultivate the passion, and now in retirement to indulge it. Weekly posting to my blog, "From the Moleskine," keeps my skills and vocabulary honed. I carry the Moleskine to the cafes in the morning, where a good hazelnut coffee stimulates the brain! I have now published three books, each described on the above website with links to purchase them. The first, released in 2015, is a work of creative nonfiction on the subject of Buddhism, entitled "Conjuring Archangel." The second, which came out in 2018, is a biography of the late British actor, Jeremy Brett, "More Than an Actor." The latest, just published by Luminare Press, is a collection of essays containing my ruminations on various lifelong interests, opinions and cultural commentary. It is titled "Ruminata: The Sexual Theory of Everything and Other Apostasies," and became available September 2022 in softcover and ebook on Amazon and other booksellers.

The eighteen essays assembled in Ruminata address many of the deep, puzzling questions we face in life, offering the results from decades of my own reflection and research. My inclination has always been to go to the root of things in searching out the most profound thought of which humankind has been capable. A glance at the table of contents will tell you the nature of the questions addressed, revealing as well topics that touch upon modern life and the rapid and bedeviling change that has been wrought in my seventy-five years. Young readers may enjoy a firsthand account of how it was to live before the computer, the internet, the smart phone, even before commercial air flight. Older ones will surely relate to my experiences.

If you yourself have wondered about such matters, you will find answers here that are novel and possibly unique, far from the superficial material you may see elsewhere. The biggest question today, given the many threats we see traceable to overpopulation, is why the species homo sapiens has never nor will ever be capable of restraining itself from reproducing. I have a theory.

The style of the essays is expository, rather than the personal memoir now more typical of the form. This is a book to keep by your easy chair and to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of port - with my blessings!
