I can see where the author was taking the story, but I just couldn’t connect to the characters to be fully invested.

I wish we got a little more world building and character development in the beginning to really solidify the reader’s understanding of the setting. Reading Serena’s backstory gave me that initial interest, but we didn’t get more development before we see the relationship between her and Zurhen.

I’m not a huge fan of the insta love trope in general, so this was one of the bigger issues I had as a personal preference. I didn’t feel like I knew the characters enough to root for them. I was very confused as to the immediate pull between them because I didn’t know the magic of the world, or how it operates.

The internal dialogue took some getting used to. It was more of a “tell you what’s happening” than a “show you what’s happening”.

While I don’t think this book was for me, you can form your own opinion if you like high fantasy, spicy romance, and a sci-fi adventure!

I thought this would be better considering the abundance of high reviews. The dialogue and the internal monologue was off putting. The FMC and MMC cried so often and for reasons I never truly understood. The overuse of adjectives meaning the same thing in one sentence was just bizarre. Not to mention the multiple grammatical errors. I wanted to attempt to finish but I didn’t even understand what the plot was beyond a human girl with a star in her falling for a big blue alien (cue Ice Planet Barbarians). I was just lost and fighting for my life trying to finish.. I DNF’d at 49%.

can't even believe that i made it that far.

this was horrid. there was no plot whatsoever. from what i read, this story entailed the fmc and the mmc acting like buffoons and having a super off-putting love affair in outer space. that was it. the romance was giving "fated mates" insanity, but without any explanation or logic as to why the characters were behaving like lunatics. i'm sure some reasoning must come about later in the book considering how ridiculous the instalove was, but i'm not going to force myself to suffer through more of this story while waiting for it to make sense.

the blurb makes this seem like an epic space opera with a splash of romance, that is NOT what this book was. this was an alien smut-fest with uncomfortable dialogue and weird character dynamics. also for some reason a major focus of the book is that fmc is SO tiny and the alien that she falls in love with is SO huge. the author stresses these anatomical differences at EVERY chance they get despite it having nothing to do with the story at all. it was gross and weird. seriously you couldn't go five pages without being reminded that the fmc is just SOOOO small. thank you, we got it the first time.

obviously people are enjoying it because it has a bunch of high ratings and good reviews, but i did not see the appeal.

update: i went back and finished it and i still stand by all of this

Honestly the plot took a second to really set in but once it did I started enjoying the story more (I will choose the “villain” love interest every time). The book desperately needs to be re-edited but has potential so I will be interested to see how this author grows and continues the series.

• eARC review for honest thoughts and opinions •

AWATS caught my attention from the moment the author posted the blurb about a story involving star-crossed lovers, mates, and a dark, mysterious presence among the shadows. Happy to say, the first part of this epic story did not disappoint!

The writing of the book was amazing! I felt as though I had been sucked in into the story and was another character watching everything unfold with our three main characters. A perfect balance of spice and plot that had me wanting to keep reading not just for the spicy scenes- but for what was going to happen. I mean... aliens 🫣 (iykyk)

This story ends with a happy for now, but like in most stories, l'm falling for that dark, morally grey character
ESPECIALLY since he had a way with words 😮‍💨. I definitely recommend for those who have been looking a good slow burn with a trope that not many may read. I cannot wait to see where this story leads us.

I enjoyed this so much, I want to read it again. This is like sci-fi, meets fantasy, meets romance. Secrets revealed, overcoming immense loss, learning to accept the villian and darkness inside you, learning to trust and love again, outer space, aliens, and incredible world building. This story has been such a rollercoaster.

Naturally I fell for the "villian", because I love morally grey characters. This was an amazing debut. The attention to detail was spectacular. This is one you definitely need to pay attention to the entire time. If you annotate, highlight, or tab books, you'll be doing it often! I cannot wait for the next book and the next book and however many books will come after that.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved the last 20-30% of the book, but I struggled to get there. I’ll start with the positives:
-Liked the writing style.
-Loved the idea and the world building, also some of the tropes in this book are my favourite.
-Nolance and his banter.
-Blue alien being a golden retriever.
-The spice was good.
-The ending spiked my interest and I really want to read the following book. I’m curious to see where it all goes.

Not so positive aspects:
-The book it’s really not that long, but to me, it felt like it kept going for ages and I hadn’t even get to the 50% mark yet.
-I found really hard to connect with our female main character. She was annoying and I admit her Pov’s are one of the reasons I struggled a bit.

I can’t give this book more than 3 ⭐️ but I hope it gets better on the next!

I need more than 5 stars as an option!!!

I’ve been trying to write this for a hot minute but it never seems enough but here it goes. Sci-fi was never real interesting to me until one day I came across Tristin’s TikTok. The trailer she had put together for AWATS intrigued me and pulled me in. I was luckily selected to be an ARC reader and patiently waited for the release. Once I started reading I could not stop. Everything from the scene descriptions to the character descriptions was beyond amazing. I truly felt like I was there seeing the story unfold before my eyes. I felt like I could understand Serena on such a personal level that I had never expected nor experienced with any other book I had read before; the deep insight to each of the characters Zuhren, Emerlum, Nolance had me feeling a bond with them, like I knew them. I felt every emotion possible reading this and every time I re read this book. To me, a great book, no matter the genre, makes you feel something, moves you with the deeper meaning behind it; you feel one with the story like it could be your story and that is what Tristin accomplished with AWATS. As for the next book; I know beyond a doubt it will be just as amazing if not better than the first and cannot wait to continue on this journey!!

This story had my heart from the moment I read the blurb, which feels like a lifetime ago now. I fell in love with it all: the characters, the romance, the angst!!! I was lucky enough to be able to join the ARC team in exchange for my honest review.

This story begins with Serena, our FMC with a hidden power who’s been captive on an alien ship with other captives like her. Serena is rescued by Zurhen, a big, blue alien dreamboat, who will do anything to help Serena the moment he lays eyes on her. Of course, we also have our morally gray king, Nolance! He’s so snarky and rude, but the love I have for him is real. The journey all these characters have is relatable and out of this world and I can’t recommend this story enough! This is the first book in this epic series, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! AWATS quickly became one of those stories that I wish I could experience for the first time again and again!

Select portions of this book were written so beautifully that they made me pause, and then on the other hand select portions were written so rushed and poorly that they also made me pause, lol. I WILL keep tabs on this author because she has great potential and the setting was original and fresh but she is in desperate need of a different editor next time. At times the writing was more ‘ telling than showing’ and it was tiresome to the point that I had to skim-read more than I’d like. The main character was crying all the time and really wishy-washy, Pisces-esque with her emotions and I, personally am irritated by overly emotional people. My favorite character was Nolance, he is a work of art and delicious! Can’t decide if it was worth the read or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

A War Amongst the Stars is the start of a new sci-fi fantasy series.
It follows Serena a human women stolen from her home planet after her hidden powers are discovered. Since her powers came to be Serena has had a really tough time, being used by her government and then been kidnapped away from all she has known, its a dark start.

Then Zurhen arrives, the Emperor of Mel'Vargon. He saves the Serena and the other captives from an enemy and boards them on his ship to take care of them despite some conflicts from his team about the captives all having unique dangerous powers.

As they make their way back to Zurhan's home he and Serena become close. Zurhan takes it upon himself to ensure Serena has the care she needs to heal. Serena must comes to terms with the fact she's been taken by another ship, a ship of aliens. She must learn to deal with her new surroundings, new friendships and learning to control her power.

I went into this book blindly, I didn't know much other than a few quotes and the blurb that captured my attention, and the author was very kind to send me an advanced E-arc in return for my honest opinion.

One of my favourite things about the book is the characters, Serena is not your typical protagonist, she is a morally grey character, she's done many bad things, been forced to do things outside of her control, lives with a horrible guilt but still wants to be a better person.

Zurhen I liked quickly and the chemistry between him and Serena was done well.

But I think my favourite character of all is Nolance. I loved his banter, his 'don't care' attitude to the team and I loved his relationship with Serena. As soon as Nolance came on page I instantly adored him and knew he would be a series favourite. I need so much more of this character in the next few books please!!

So much happened in the last few chapters, it was hard to put down knowing some big revels were coming and the relationships that were going to be tested.

This book does come with a lot of trigger warnings, so please do check these out beforehand, and my thanks again to Tristin for sharing with me.

Overall I really enjoyed and I can't wait to read book two.

This is book 1 in an epic scifi/ fantasy/ romance series and it was a thrilling introduction to the world & characters! I love each of these genres on their own, so when I saw this story was a mixture of all three I was sold!

You meet Serena, a human captured from Earth and held against her will because of the powers she possess. Zurhen, a commander & emperor who finds, rescues, and cares for our Serena. And Nolance, who is dark and mysterious but may hold a key to answering so many of our questions. Survival as they travel through the stars to Mel'Vargon is only part 1, for when they arrive more challenges and adventures await!

AWATS a villian's origin story, but who is the villian? You'll have to just wait and find out because "we are all villians in someone else's eyes".

We also have star-crossed lovers & fated mates, but who will end up being the end game? 🖤

A War Among the Stars is the first book in the Star-Crossed Lovers series and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author.

This book is filled with magic, war, and all the spicy scenes that you could want. I've always loved reading science fiction books, but to have them filled with romance is pure perfection. Our main character Serena founds herself kidnapped and is rescued by a king and his crew. She doesn't remember anything from after she was taken so that adds to the suspense of the plot. I loved how we got to find out things about Serena and her past, with her.

Her relationship with Zurhen is weird at first because even though she is hurt and needs help with certain things, he treats her like his child. There are moments in the beginning when her size seems 10 times smaller than him. But later on, the descriptions get better.

The reason why I'm rating this book with 4 stars and not 5 is because of the style of writing. The sentences were so formal and often it felt like I was reading poetry and not a fiction book. There were so many conversations between Serena and Zurhen where I just couldn't take them seriously because everything they said sounded dramatic.

Overall, this book is amazing and I can't wait for everyone else to read it. If you are a fan of science fiction and don't mind enemies-to-lovers trope and a bit of dark romance then go read this one because you are going to love it.

Where to begin with this amazing story?!...This book will keep you on your toes at every turn. The story development feels like you are watching an epic movie in paper form. You won't be able to help but fall in love with the characters. Serena is a girl who most of us can relate to. She has a beautiful heart and will do anything to protect those she loves. Then we have Zurhen who is a hot piece of big blue alien with a big blue you know what to match. 😉 He is the alien you never thought you'd want/need, but will forever fantasize about. 🥵 He is definitely a knight in shining blue armor. 😍 Then we have Serena's BFF Nolance, who always had me cracking up! I love that guy. There are a few other characters you'll get to know but I can't give too much away. This book had me up way too late because I couldn't put it down. I went through every emotion reading this story and I love Tristin for bringing us on such a magical ride. ❤️ Now, this does end in a happily ever after for now, but trust me when I say it'll be ok. I'm still swooning over the end of the first book. I'm so excited for the 2nd book, and you will be too!

ARC review-

It’s been a long time since I have read a sci-fi romance. One of my all time favorite books is one so i was so excited to dive into this one.

What I loved- I really liked the writing style and multiple POVs. The world building for this was definitely good. The complexity of the magic and world was so fun to read about. It was a really good mix of Sci-Fi, Romance and Fantasy.

What I wasn’t so into- The blurb had me so excited but I did have a problem getting into this book and connecting to the characters. It felt a little long for the first 45% and there were still some rushed moments after that I wish we had more of. The first half felt like it could almost be its own book entirely.

The relationships were complicated but there were aspects of them that weren’t for me. While I had seen there was a love triangle the way this played out wasn’t something I enjoy.

Overall this was an interesting start to a new series especially if you love sci-if romance this will definitely be for you.

This is one of the worst books I've ever read in my entire life. I had to stop half way through because I could feel my brain get dumber as the story continued. How did something this atrocious ever get published? With that in mind, this review only applies to the first 50% of the book:

Poorly written, stilted dialogued, minimal world building and no character development. The author cares about one thing...sex with aliens. There's no emotion, no storytelling, no romance, no drama, no flavor, no chemistry, no nuance. I was looking for an intergalactic love story, not a porn version of Star Trek.

The FMC is a whining, sniveling child who constantly cries and has no redeemable qualities. Yes, she feels bad about her past and doesn’t want to hurt anyone. That's a great starting off point for any character but it doesn't go anywhere because she's too busy crying or having sex with her captor. The two MMCs are egotistical and bland, making them simultaneously unlikable and forgettable.

Read at your own peril but I guarantee you'll find something better to do with your spare time than try to make sense of this cosmic garbage.

I don’t even know where to start. My mind is still in space and I’m living in this world that Tristan created. To say that I never wanted to leave the stars is an understatement. This first book is going to sit with me until the next book comes out and after.

I think we all find a time in our lives where we feel like we don’t belong and where we find ourselves lonely and wanting. Serena, Zurhen, and Nolance and all other characters in this story made it so easy to relate to them and find some point in each of their stories to identify with on some level.

This is a story you’ll be revisiting and thinking about for a while. Hold on for a spaceship ride through the stars. And experience life with Serena and everything she endured, everything she survives to find the love and the acceptance she’s searching for.

I absolutely loved this story! It was an epic adventure that is only just beginning and the love of the main characters is absolutely beyond words. The things they would do for each other, what they would give up, sacrifice, for the one they love is incredible.

I am NOT a huge fan of books involving space or aliens etc, BUT this book definitely change my perspective. I won't be so quick to dismiss them in the future. It was non stop action from start to finish. And I mean action in every sense of the word (wink wink). I could not put it down and I now want more.

It ends on a mild cliffhanger, but has a HFN.
TWs: there is a lot of violence, death, and gore of individuals around them, some past physical abuse while being held captive, and even some brief talk of a past non consensual situation of a supporting character. No real OW drama that would involve cheating.

This book had me from the very beginning. It's told from the male MC, Zurhen's and main female MC, Serena's POV. He is a king and finds Serena captive on an enemy ship. They are in space. And Serena is the only human anyone has seen. Their attraction is instant, and Serena remains a mystery for awhile. But more is shared as we read. Zurhen is an alien, with "alien parts". 😉 And a beast inside him. He's like an alien shifter. There's also Nolance. Our mysterious "best friend."

The twists and turns were so exciting. I was on the edge of my seat this whole book. needing to find out what happens next. It literally had me shook. Like audible gasp shook.

I cannot wait for the second book. And I cannot recommend this enough!

I was so very lucky to receive this as an ARC –
AWATS is the first in a new paranormal/sci-fi fantasy series. Let me start in what captured my attention – the COVER! Can we just take a moment to admire how beautiful it is? As I started to dive into this book, I was hooked just by the author’s note alone. Once I started, I simply could not put this down from there. I was kept wanting more and not expecting the twist and turn throughout the story. Definitely looking for the next in this series!

wow is all I can say

I am absolutely blown away at the world that was created in this.. I am not a Sci- Fi reader by any means, nor have I been tempted to check out the genre.. but man oh man did Tristin deliver. I have no words right now.

I finished this book yesterday and I’ve still been contemplating how to go about this LOL.

The evolution between Nolance and Zurhan is immaculate. I love a badass FC but this took it to an entirely new level. The celestial being idea was fantastic. 10/10. The spice was great but the slow burn..? Oooooooo ✨chefs kiss✨😮‍💨
I have officially found another favorite author of mine and I cannot wait to read more of her work!!

I tried so hard not to devour this book in one go so I read it slower than I normally would. I am an AVID fantasy/sci-fi reader and was super excited and have followed the creator since I saw this book last year, the world building is beautiful and creative, the characters are relatable to me because I’m a big cry baby and super emotional! Then you have a certain character who is the funny one I bad situations but we all have someone like that or are that person. The multiple POV and inner monolog is something I really enjoy too! This book is a 5/5 because of how I could relate to the characters and the descriptions she used to write about these places. Please give it a shot!

This is one of the more unique books I have read in a very long time. There is something magical about the stars, but there is something dark about them too. The story line shows you both sides of the universe with some supernatural powers coming along for the ride. The author really showed the lengths people will go for the people they love. There is some very explicit sexual scenes that include some alien parts that could be upsetting to a younger crowd. The only reason it lost a star is, it moved just a bit too slow for me. It struggled to keep my interest, but the paranormal curiosity side won and helped me finish it.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Tristin has written a science-fiction, fantasy romance I could not get enough of! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and there was so much depth to this book. There was a lot of learning to love and accept yourself, secrets, and fascinating world building.

I love a villain origin story and this is one I loved so freaking much! This star-crossed, fated mates romance with a love triangle was *chef’s kiss*. I cannot wait for the next book!

I wanted to absolutely loveeee this book so bad bc I love aliens and magic and mystical. At the beginning of this book I was sucked in but I got really bogged down in the middle and I got so mad at the Mfc. I don’t know if that was the author’s objective but the mfc made me so mad at her when she was pulling her two men in either direction. And she cried to much. I don’t mind all the emotions but sometimes it just seemed off the wall and not needed. I will be reading the second book and I’m excited bc at the end of this book it picked back up and I was sucked in again.

ARC review!

This book is simply amazing! I have read the original and the new version (this book). I loved the changes and the a love triangle is always interesting but I will always be Team Zurhen 💙 I love that big blue Alien! The ending was great!! I would love to tell you spoilers but you need to read this book ASAP! The erotic parts of the book are super hott, you will need to shower after! The plot and the twists are so good I couldn’t put the book down! This is a must read and I can’t wait for the sequel!
