It took me a moment to get into it (and that might be because I started it right around the holiday season and was utterly distracted) but once I did boy OH boy did it captivate me! I love the world that Kolva created and the constant tension between the companions. Love the dynamic between the elves and humans and how we slowly learn about why their at each other's throats (and rightfully so!). However, as much as I liked the main character and his buddies the character that stole the show for me has got to be the pooka. Every time it showed up on page I'd get so excited. I think that's just the monster lover in me but I really got a kick and thrill out of Lyan and the pooka interacting.
I also enjoyed all the gods talk as I love folklore type stories so that was always fun to hear about while our heroes went on their adventure. Overall it was a fun and interesting fantasy with a cool and promising premise that I can't wait to read the rest of in Book 2!

I really enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the next one to come out! The story is intriguing as it gives you both history of the world and follows a current cast of characters as they interact. It is woven together well and the plot is easy to follow, not getting too wrapped up in places or people that aren't pertinent. The characters themselves give plenty of mystery and interest as they are slowly revealed throughout the journey and various situations in which they find themselves. I had my husband read it as soon as I finished! It is a delightful book and I am marking my calendar for the release of the second one!

It took me a few pages to actually get into the book, but I enjoyed Lyan. I was low key hoping Lyan’s Bromance with Kithr or Cailean would bud into something more but by the end of the book with Venycia interactions I don’t think that’s going to happen. I enjoyed the interactions with the Pooka, can’t wait to see what comes of it. I liked the characters we got and hope they are delved deeper into as the story progresses. All in all it was a nice simple read.
