I am a college professor with a doctorate in literacy studies and educational psychology. I am also a bi-vocational minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. I serve a rural church with an attendance of 18-35. I am married to my first wife (31 years), Irene. She is a special education teacher. We have two sons, Aaron, a software engineer and married to Maria. As of this writing (June 2008) they are awaiting their first child and our first grandchild. Our other son, Galen, recently finished college with a degree in sociology and is trying to make it in DC. We live in a town in Western Kentucky of about 55,000 (the 3rd. largest city in Kentucky). Let's see, umm, I worked as first grade and kindergarten teacher (mostly reading) for several years. I graduated from seminary and served as a full time minister for awhile. Most important here, though, I am a former and recovering fundamentalist. Oh! I'm an author of articles, book chapters, and now a book (actually, my second, but we won't go there.....).

If you are already well-versed in mysticism, this book is NOT for you. But, if mysticism is something you would like to learn more about, this book offers you a hands-on approach to both beginning to understand and beginning to practice the things you need to know and do to deepen your spiritual life.

It is short and easy to read and Alexander writes plainly about everything from mysticism and the nature of God to meditation.
