Dark Angel. A dark romance. Book one in London Ruthless series.

She used to call me her angel. But the things I’d like to do to her make me feel like the devil.

Samantha
I was never supposed to fall in love with Gabriel Sullivan. He has always been off limits in more ways than one.

Yet, for all the reasons we should be apart, there’s one that keeps drawing me back to him.

And every stolen glance, every smile, every brush of his fingertips, only make me want him more.

I moved back home to start again, and escape the life that I could no longer bear to live. But my old life, and the man who made it hell, don’t want to let me go.

Gabriel
I should stay away from Samantha Donovan. She’s already been hurt too much, and she deserves a better man than me. The problem is, I’ve always been a man who takes what he wants, and I want her.

I’ve made it to the top of my game by being ruthless and calculated. A man with nothing to lose can act without consequence.

But how do I survive in the dark world I live in, when I might just get to have everything I’ve ever wanted?

Dark Angel is Book 1 of the London Ruthless series.

At this time I will not be picking up the second. The characters are one-dimensional. Sam and Gabriel have nothing going for them other than a complete lack of communication, and the range of emotions that are present on a single page are insane (and overdramatic).

The writing is stilted and the adjectives are a little to overdone. The cheese is too much “Oh me and her were just giggling about how awesome it is to be a strong independent women” *cringe*, I was so put out at the awkward attempts at passion and suspense that were being attempted.

If you like C-grade smut I would say go for it? I finished it in three hours so it’s an easy weekend read. But nothing that I’ll be continuing.

“I was her Angel Gabriel, wasn’t I? I was the man who was supposed to protect her, and now I was just another man she was afraid of.”

Dark Angel is Ms Kincaid’s debut book and what a way to make an entrance into the indie world. This story has really solid bones, with a good balance of steam, laughter, angst and suspense. The hero and heroine are battered and bruised making strong characters with a story worth telling. A heartbreaking, forbidden romance about her father’s best friend. An unpredictable narrative, which has you questioning how the judicial system is manipulated by power.

Samantha is a girl with a teenage crush on her fathers best friend, to her he’s an angel. He is always there to rescue her, but on the night she lays her heart bare, he rejects her. Fourteen years later she returns as a women who is ready to take on the world. She has endured more than most people will in their lives, but determination and the love and protection of an angel, help her overcome the scars of abuse. Her demons are coming back to haunt her and she is ready to fight them.

Gabrielle is tempted by his best friends 18 year old daughter. However he can’t let it come between him and his friend, Sebastian. He wants her to experience life and earn the education she has always wanted. Now Sam has grown into a beautiful women and his feelings haven’t waned. Gabrielle is controlling and trust doesn’t come easily. Ignoring his feelings and having to push Sam away becomes an impossible task. He feels like he failed her all those years ago, if only he’d known, he could of done something to save her. Now the threat is back he’s going to do everything within his power to keep her safe.

This book started off strong and then got progressively worse. I don’t know what happened. It was good and then BAM! Slapped in the face with mediocre writing and plot.

The punctuation? Atrocious. The character dynamics? Awful. The plot? Non-existent.

I hate the miscommunication trope in general and it was just overwhelming in this book. The characters had no chemistry, the story was super choppy because of all the scene jumps, and everyone was so damn childish/impulsive/annoying.

I really wanted to like this book, I did. But not even the smut could save it.

Repetitive, lacking details, spicy scenes where NOT good, to be honest almost DNF a lot of times. Miscommunication, don’t see the point in another book. I usually don’t hate books, but I have to say this one I did not like. Personal opinion, Sam and Gabriel only loved having sex, not each other, plot was not there either everything was confusing all the time.

Strongly disliked Samantha as a character! Had to skip most of the second half of the book when she pushed him away for the 10th time - skipped to the end and see what happened. Won't be buying the second book in the series sadly, a first for me with Saide's books

Very worthy star's

Dagenham London,
Samantha Donovan at her uni bash in the club her dad owner of the Archangel Security firm employing the bouncers along side his partner and best friend Gabriel Sullivan. After spending her last night with him she is willing to give up all for Gabriel, but it's one big mistake, the sweet girl he'd once known would be long gone and it's fourteen years before she arrives back in Dagenham running her business with her best friend and partner Donavon Cook dealing in criminal family law, the electricity fibes when she saw Gabe are still there but he was been cautious, what happened back then had to be left there, but it's not easy.
Jimmy Fenton is out to get his hands on the firm and will do everything in his power to get it.
A London ruthless book the first from the author under a new pen name and I couldn't wait to get stuck in.
This is one dynamic sexy provocative read.
The intense sexual chemistry is amazing between this couple that I read into the early hours it made my night with a nice sip of fruity wine.
Gabriel is one of the most feared men in London and he's every reader's book boyfriend.
The book flew my emotions all over the place as the two confide in each other of what happened over the past fourteen years, I laughed, I cried a lot, I gasped, and wow it does hit your buttons big time.
Gabriel and Samantha are bonded together in trust. And he will always remain as Samantha's Angel Gabriel always.
I just cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I've read Sadie Kincaid's other 2 series & have absolutely loved them. This is her first series and it's clear to see how much she has grown & improved as an author. Don't write her off just because of this book.

This definitely wasn't my favorite book by her. I definitely love most of the tropes in the book.

I couldn't really connect with the characters much. They weren't really bad or anything. Samantha & Gabriel didn't really fit together much at first. It was mostly just sexual tension and then the sex defined their relationship.

There was 1 thing that I absolutely hated because I hate it in books.

*Alexa play "Quit playing games with my heart"*

The audiobook is great. The voices are perfection!

Now onto my rant 💀. Spoilers Ahead.

Sam grabbed me from page one. (At the beginning of the book at least 🥴). And I can not explain why. But I knew this was going to be a slow burn romance, but for once I actually appreciated it. And I was definitely looking forward to finding out more about her ex husband.

Jealous Gabriel was probably the hottest but amusing thing about this book. When he said he came back with the hope of having some part of his body inside her....I was screaming, cause what 🥵.

Samantha has a bit of complex, you can't want Gabriel to be in your life. Then expect him not to want to protect you. Given his "career".

Samantha really was like I want Gabriel so much, and let me show him that by pushing him away. And constantly reminding him of all the other women available to him 🥴. She's really her own worst enemy.

"I don't think you can handle me Sam" excuse while I pick myself off the floor, cause 🥵😭. Ugh he wanted their first time to be in a bed. ❤️

Gabriel is my favorite Sadie Kincaid MMC, hands down. This man is filthy, undercover super freak. Wanting more than a friends with benefits. Ugh😫😫😫!

Sebastian being overprotective was understandable, got a little teary eyed.

Samantha's misunderstanding of people's worry for pity, made so much sense once we find out what that crazy ex-husband would make her do. Her backstory was tragic. Had to step away from the book for a second. And I couldn't wait for Gabriel to send them all to Hell.

As a therapist I love that Sadie's characters openly go. And in this case rasing awareness for EMDR therapy.

While reading this book I often forgot Samantha was in her 30s, because she constantly acted 18. Treating her relationship with Gabriel like a game. Which is odd given this type of behavior would have gotten her "punished" by Jackson 🤢. So I didn't understand why she would even think to test Gabriel, even though she knew he wouldn't do anything that crazy. What was the reason.

What do you mean you let Nick and Maria used your flat...and they had sex in your bed 😬. And she's okay with it? Guess I'm just strange 😅.

Samantha make me worried about how much the therapist actually helped. Not expecting her just magically get over her trauma. But some of her actions towards Gabriel were just concerning. Or even her reactions, like she's allowed to have emotions, but Gabriel isn't? The overall back and forth. Sam can hang out with a Nick, but the moment Gabriel is with another woman or talks to one it's the end of the world.

Homegirl really hung up the phone because Gabriel was conducting business with a female colleague (in a hotel room, but whatever). But then has an inner monologue about him not being a cheat. And she's annoyed with him...FOR. DOING. HIS. JOB 🥴. Because he's not laying in bed alone "missing her." All because she missed him, while he was on a business trip. Girl bye 💀. Then she got mad because he accused her of not trusting him...girl you hung up the phone because you heard a female voice in the background, and said woman was someone she knew.

Gabriel's declaration of love, is why book boys are better than reality 😅😭.

Sam using "I told him about my past" every time they got into an argument got old fast. And very much so when they went to visit Maggie and Hugh. I think Sam forgets that she went to therapy and that's why she was able to share her past with Gabriel. Poor guy just can't catch a break with her.

The whole argument at his aunt and uncle's house just made me sad. Gabriel at this point has told her he loves her I know at least 15 times. And she's still on about him not trusting her, only because he's not ready to talk about his ex-wife. I'm sorry honey but everyone has their own timeline for processing trauma or a troubled past.

Then she thinks Gabriel is with her only because of the sex. Well I hate to break it to you Sam, I doubt he would be with you for the sex, when he could probably find someone who gave him less of a headache 😅.

The moment she broke up with him because of Jackson, then proceeded to go "I never cry", made me roll my eyes so hard I started seeing stars. She has no respect for Gabriel at all. And no one will convince me she does. She even goes as far to say that she expected him to read her mind.

I don't condone cheating, but when Gabriel slept with Jennifer I felt nothing. Homie has been through a lot with Sam. He was drunk, it was mistake, and I wasn't mad at him.

I don't even know how to feel about Sam's father lol.

SHE STOPPED TAKING HER BIRTH CONTROL BECAUSE IT REMINDED HER OF HIM. WHAT HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!! 💀😭

Okay learning how she lost her first baby did make me cry. And explained to a degree why she has high walls. Screw Jackson for saying she was a murderer. Can't wait for him to go to the bye bye.

Shocker Jennifer being pregnant is the cliff hanger. 💀

Sam definitely won't be making any list of my favorite Sadie Kincaid characters. And that's why this book is a 3 star read for me. I never can understand how a person is allowed to show emotions/reactions, but acts shocked when their partner does it's a crime. Sam emotionally bullied Gabriel throughout this book. And the only reason I'm reading book 2 is because I want to know how the story concludes.

The FMC was really unbearable to me. She gave him crap when he mistook a situation and didn't let her explain, just for her to do the same thing to him later. And then get mad at him for claiming she didn't trust him. She was literally acting like she didn't trust him.

She was constantly getting upset about pretty much everything he did, making him feel bad and like he had to apologize. But when she would do stupid f'cking shit and hurt him, he would forgive her really easily and then they would have sex. She was extremely annoying, and Gabriel deserves so much better. I don't think I've hated an FMC as much as I hated this one.

She wasn't the only thing awful about this book. There was a lot of one paragraph descriptions of their sex scenes. Telling not showing. It was quite often. Not saying that there wasn't any spice, there was quite a bit of it. What I didn't need was around 20 or so different paragraphs throughout the story, talking about how he f'cked her so hard.

This author isn't new to me. I did not read her books in order from when she released them. I started with Fierce King and Fierce Queen and then read the Ryan brothers series. I honestly thought this was going to be a one-click author for me. I loved Fierce King, and even though I hated the second one because of the miscommunication trope that happened in that book, which killed it for me, I also loved the first four books in the Ryan Brothers series.

I will not be reading the next book in this series. I am unsure at this point if I will continue to read more books from this author. While out of the eight books I've read, I did really enjoy five of them, one was okay, and two I couldn't stand.

This of course is just my opinion. A lot of reviews say they love this book, you might too. These are just the things that irritated me. I wish I had good things to say.

At the start, I enjoyed this book. I fell in love with both Gabriel and Samantha. However, the plot became non-existent at one point, and all the characters did was argue and fuck.

Neither of the characters communicated with each other, and Samantha ran at every opportunity. Gabriel made a stupid mistake which I hated every second of (although they weren't together at that point but he was actively trying to get her back.) If the second book is going in the direction I think it's going in regards to this mistake, it's going to take a lot to redeem itself.

I'm still going straight into book 2 though 😂 I liked Samantha as a character, Sadie knows how to write strong female main characters, but I hope she starts communicating properly.

Gabriel, I actually detest you at this point, I'll be so pissed if you don't redeem yourself in book 2

Ok….so this is quite a steamy book, it’s a little bit forbidden as Gabriel AKA Gabe falls in love with Sam who just so happens to be his best friend’s daughter, she’s been in love with him for years, they have an 8 year age gap.

They have an all consuming attraction, they need each other & can’t get enough, that’s what makes it so hot! But they do fight a lot & I mean a lot, back & forth, it gave me a headache! But I liked them as a couple, when they are together & happy, the sex is great!

This is book one of a duo so it does end on a cliffy.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book. I absolutely loved it. Gabriel and Sam are such an interesting couple. It had the perfect balance of story and steamy scenes. There is angst and tension aplenty, and the making up - well, you'll have to read it for yourself. Perfect for a quick and easy read and I cant wait for the second in this series.

I devoured this Dark and steamy read in an afternoon. The storyline flowed perfectly with the right amount of mystery, mayhem and angst, not forgetting the very hot and sexy erotic scenes along the way.... Gabriel Sullivan rocked my world, he loves with all of his heart and Samantha owns it completely. But that ending OMG!!!!!! I am dying to read the next book in this series.

Sadie is a new Author to me and I absolutely loved her writing/story telling, this was a 5 star read all the way for me.

DNF !
This was just a no for me . I love age gap romance and was thrilled that the FMC was 32 and mature ..but they knew each other since she was 14 and he is 22 ! This was grooming he is an adult and she is a teenager And yes there were years they didn't see each other but it was just CRINGEY ..every time she sees him she has to say how good he looks in a suit and how he looks like a se#x god and how she ..it got repetitive ..

Every time he called her by her name she was shocked! 😂*" he called me sam !!* " i swear i saw this (the same phrase ) three or four times by 30 % in the book ..she was supposed to be 32 or something but she was acting like a teenager
..
I tried to finish it but i just couldn't

I don’t want to waste too much time on a review but it was bad and I don’t want to question why I rated it so low when I look at my reviews later. Mix age-gap, zero trust, zero communication and anything you could think of as relationship drama. It was all here in terrible form. Then throw in the most powerful man in town. Or maybe just a old dude that handles nothing and is cringy in the bedroom.

Dnf’d at 67% . I LOVE Sadie’s books..I really do. Especially her Chicago ruthless series. But, they kept fighting. Like..I get it, trust issues are a thing. The only reason why I dropped it was because they weren’t communicating 😭. It felt like it was every other chapter they were arguing over something that could have been easy fixed.

I’m giving this 3.5⭐️ rating. This book is a ok read but not my favorite by Sadie. I did the audiobook and the narration was good but for some reason I am not fond of the English accent in audiobooks. This book for me was lacking the Sadie Kincaid magic that I am used to. The characters annoyed me a little well the fmc annoyed me more. I’m not fond of miss communication and this book had it. Yea there was some spice but even the spicy parts didn’t live up to Sadie standards. I’m not sure I will read the next book in this series. This book had so much potential with some of my favorite tropes like age gap, possessive mmc and pregnancy but didn’t hit for me.

I usually love Sadie's books and this one just didn't do it for me.

The story was so flat to me, I felt like there was no chemistry between the two characters.
This book definitely needs a reedit too, the amount of grammar errors, missing words, half finished sentences that don't make sense...it was a bit of a hot mess.

I made it 50% through the book and just couldn't do it anymore so it was a dnf for me.

A very hot and steamy read which will have you page-turning to get to the next bit. I loved Gabe's character and the fact that he is a genuinely good guy. Sam's fiery and independent personality is also refreshing. Their romance and the plot is well-developed and had you rooting for their relationship. A great read!

You can definitely see how far Sadie has come as a dark romance writer because this was not it honey! 😩
What’s with the time jumps? The non-existent plot? The fade to black? The childish characters? It just wasn’t what I know Sadie to be now, so that was rather disappointing, but again this is her earlier work so I’m not gonna judge it to harshly. I just won’t continue with the next book sadly
