Such an inspiring read. The first scene where you see racism up close and personal felt like someone threw ice water in your face. I was invested in the story from that point on. Watching life slap someone down, then they get back up again makes you feel as though you too are capable of rising above the harshness of life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who hopes to thrive. It helps you to realize you have the power and do not need anyone to give it to you. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book offered an interesting take on empowerment. While I hadn't considered it in these terms before, I like this idea of Me Power rather than the traditional sense of empowered. When it is said and done, empowerment starts with self. As an African American educator and a recent Ed.D graduate, I definitely could relate to the author's story about her doctorate degree.

Me Power" is an amazing, and informative book about empowerment. It redefines empowerment and provides illustrations in order to make us understand that empowerment is something that comes from within us and not from some external source.

"Me power is a term I coined to describe the ability to realize and exude one's authentic self to live a happy, productive , and fulfilling life."

The author has penned down his own personal experiences in the book and has also added charts where necessary. Various relevant quotations are added in the beginning of the chapters that make it really interesting.Exercises are also provided at the end of the book to make readers see for themselves how much they've learned from the book.

"No one else is you. That is your power. "

All in all, the book is an amazing read for non-fiction readers. It is "empowering" indeed.

I'm so glad (and lucky) I got this book right after reading "The Obstacle is the Way" by Ryan Holiday.

Interestingly, it made me reconsider my rating for the latter as it should've been lower. Both books delve into similar themes with empowering messages, but while "The Obstacle is the Way" comes off as incredibly condescending, this book explores the psychology of empowerment, particularly the concept of "Me" Power, in a more nuanced and insightful manner.

It offers practical strategies for harnessing this power and achieving the goals that Holiday simply stated you should have.

Definitely enjoyed the book and plan to revisit.

It's been a while since l've read any self help/ personal develop books and I really enjoyed reading this one. The book is divided into 2 parts: foundations and principals. The 5 principals are:
- Embrace Your Barriers (Motivated Energy)
- Focus On Your Strengths (My Education)
-Speak for Your Life (Myself Expressed)
- Choose Your Guide (s) (Mastering Excellence)
- Ritualize Your Reflection (You Are More than
Enough)
In part two after each chapter it provides exercises to practice and apply what each principal and what you've learned.
Overall, I found the book to be very interesting, very informative, and well researched. Definitely applying these principals moving forward.
If you're looking for a new personal development book I definitely recommend this one.

Knowing thyself is key

Me Power begins with author LaNysha T. Adams relating a surprising story about how one of her prospective advisors during her postsecondary education said she should stick with a career in which she used her considerable “applied” skills rather than pursuing academic research and writing. Racial overtones came across during the talk.

Though hurt by the conversation, Adams shirked it off and went on to get her Ph.D. In Me Power, which sounds more self-centered than it is, the author offers lots of good advice for readers on how to accomplish what they want by understanding what empowerment means and truly knowing themselves. That second thing can be elusive for many.

I remember an email that came my way from a work colleague many years ago, in which she inadvertently copied me and said a disparaging thing about my mental capacity. Those words still sting today. Adams’ book offers ways to get past stuff like that and much more. If you’re ready to better yourself while self-reflecting and taking full responsibility for your actions, Me Power could be the book for you.

The author is a trained linguist and seems to have numerous interests. She offers several real-life stories in Me Power, some of them purposefully harrowing, to demonstrate how “average” people can rise above super-tough circumstances. Some of the self-help advice in the book is well-known, but Adams jazzes things up with her own unique perspectives.

Me Power is an interesting mix of academic research and jargon alongside down-to-earth examples that pack a punch. At times I felt the prose could have been more focused, but overall this was a helpful read.

There's something that's often got on my nerves working with local communities and it wasn't well defined until I read this book.
"Empowerment" is a word that we use and throw around in reports on impact-but what does it mean to empower? This book answers two key questions: 1. what is empowerment and 2. how is it manifested? How do people manifest it?

The author proposes five guiding principles which are key to what she calls 'Me Power' and this is self knowledge and principled action coupled with the principles that provide a framework for understanding empowerment and how best to self-develop.

I learned something new in reading this book on looking into barriers that hinder my growth and also having a personal board of directors comprised of various mentors in key areas I need to develop.

This would be a great book for anyone in social and community development to ponder over the various approaches to empowerment- and what it means for the communities involved. It would also make a great personal development read.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.

Thank you, Partners @lovebooktours, @edlinguist, and @newdegreepress
for my #giftedbook. I'm excited to be a part of this #booktour!

I am a huge fan of self-empowerment and love reading books that teach me skills to add to my toolbox when navigating difficult times. For a variety of reasons, I chose not to set goals at New Year's because I wasn't sure how the year would unfold and didn't want the added pressure. (YES!.. I'm an overachiever). And, I've digressed.

What I like most about this book is that it helps you understand what your strengths are and how to use those to build the life you want. By empowering ourselves, we become more nimble and are able to better navigate the difficult situations that life throws our way. The book is easy to read, motivational, and uses a set of principles to guide you. As I read this book I found myself thinking about how I will use these principles to figure out who I want to be when I grow up. Excellently written and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Regardless of the obstacles, Me Power encourages us to be the best version of ourselves and to reject the notion that power is something we can authorise, give away, or take away from others.
Embracing this book is the first step to activating your Me Power. So what are you waiting for?

The book cover won my heart at first glance. This book is truly inspiring in several ways. It's written in a beautifully creative manner that makes it all the more appealing. It poses a number of practical questions at its reader that can help them in relating more to the book and to have an insight of their own selves by taking in the given information. Its well written and well researched. And I'd highly recommend it if you you're looking to find the power within yourselves.✨

'Embrace your barriers and you’ll be unstoppable!'

Me Power is a book where the meaning of empowerment is re-defined. It helps us encourage ourselves and how to connect with people and how to know your worth while you have limited opportunities.
The author also discussed the 5 principles which are the key of this book. Me Power is based on self knowledge and principles that provide a framework for understanding empowerment.

Do you sometimes feel powerless? If so, LaNysha T. Adams wants to teach you all about your “Me Power.”

Embracing this book is the first step to activating your Me Power.

So what are you waiting for?

My Thoughts
This book gives some fantastic examples of embracing your “Me Power,” which is a nice way of saying your self-empowerment. I really enjoyed the concept, and I appreciated the raw, deep place the author came from with her journey. She shared some cutting, deep stories of her own with us and that took a lot of her own “Me Power.” She also shared some amazing stories of people overcoming some tremendous obstacles and complicated backgrounds. I wish the author had touched on challenges those with mental illness or neuroatypicalities might face using this structure. As someone with adult diagnosed ADHD and autism, and anxiety, I see great value in this system, but I also see some challenges as well.

The book outlines five principles to finding your ME Power:

Embrace your barriers.
Focus on your strengths.
Speak for your life.
Choose your guide.
Ritualize your reflection.
The author then goes into great detail about each, highlighting inspirational examples of individuals who exemplify these values. My favorite story involved her own grandfather, a firecracker of a fellow, right until the end. This book redefines the idea of empowerment, giving the power back to individuals, and helping us understand how to empower ourselves. It emphasises the importance of all types of education, not just that found within the walls of learning. And it encourages us to recognize that “we are our greatest assets” taking the power away from those that would intimidate us.

Who’s It For?

If you’re feeling a little stuck, and in need of a boost to your power – for your personal or professional life – this book might be for you. I do activism work in my community and recently engaged in a training that covered similar topics. This book helped cement some ideas that I learned, and I like that I’ll have it to reference.

Review:

👉Talking about the title of the book, the title of the book is really so interesting to read.

👉The cover is appealing and attractive as well.Writing style is appreciable .After reading Me Power, I realize it's not about fixing yourself—it's about finding the power within and using it.The power within is based on five principles the author outlines with a lot of social science research. The book is written in an easy-to-digest way, with lots of practical questions that helped me personalize the information. We tend to focus too much on what we are not good at and try to "fix" ourselves when that is the opposite of empowerment. Learning what your true gifts are to share with the world is one of the most critical point in Me Power. The author presents a refreshing new definition of empowerment and provides practical tools and strategies to help readers achieve their goals. If you are looking for a book that will inspire you to take action and make a positive change in your life, "Me Power" is worth reading.

I love it when I come across a book that redefines a word for me in a fundamental and profound way. Me Power by Lanysha T. Adams did just that. Early on, a direct quote from the book struck me with the realization of how deeply language shapes our understanding of power:

“I am compelled to write about empowerment because we need a new way of thinking and acting that moves us beyond outdated power models. The old models keep us on autopilot, where we do what we were conditioned to do without question. We must stop thinking of power as something we can authorize, give away, or take from others. Instead, we need to start seeing it as energy—a flow of possibility that can be tapped into.”

This concept flipped my own thinking. How often in HR do we speak about “empowering” our staff and leaders? It sounds positive, but it actually implies a master-servant dynamic, subtly undermining our belief in individual agency.

Another powerful insight from the book reinforced this idea:

“But empowerment is not something we receive like a gift. It is something we do; it is a process in which we engage. Me Power challenges the notion that we need to be empowered by others. Me Power must be constructed from within…. In its popular use and etymology, empowerment has more to do with power over, referring to an externalizing effect of controlling, impacting, or influencing others. In fact, power over is the opposite of empowerment, yet the two terms share a similar meaning, both referring to giving someone else power or authority.”

I wish I had read this book when I first received the advance copy several months ago. The good news is that it’s available now, and I highly recommend it. Me Power redefines empowerment by shifting the language to focus on “Me Power,” which Adams describes as the “combination of self-knowledge and principled action.” The book breaks down how to harness the five guiding principles of the M.E. framework, which are cleverly designed mnemonic captions for ME:

1/ Motivated Energy
2/ My Education
3/ Myself Expressed
4/ Mastering Excellence
5/ More than Enough

This book is a must-read for leaders as a reminder that true empowerment doesn’t come from hierarchy; it’s built from within.

When I read the title for this book, I thought, “I need this, I need some ME power!” The title is intriguing, and I wanted to find out more. I had never heard of this particular author before but I love giving new things a try so on I went to open the first page.
The book is a kind of self help book, encouraging you to be the best version of you that you can be. It is written from the perspective of the author, but also has some stories added in others whom she has come across along the way. Readers of the self-help genre will love this book, also readers who are not usually into this kind of thing should give it a go…I think you’d like it!
So, the concept of the book is to empower ourselves by following or adopting the principles set out by the author. She talks about being focussed and setting certain goals, and more importantly, getting to know yourself. There are interactive parts within the book which I personally found really helpful and fun to do. She advises that everyone should have a coach in their lives, someone who inspires and supports you……do you have somebody? I know I do!
LaNysha has a style of writing that just keeps you wanting to read more and shouting YES GIRL!!! Where have you been all my life! I need this in my life now! I went through a lot of emotion while reading this book with the participatory exercises but it was somewhat cathartic once it was done.
I definitely enjoyed reading this book and would love to read more from this author. Also, I think I would read it again as I think that you would get something different from it each time.
It is an exciting and insightful read that encourages you to re-assess yourself and harness your power. Go and get that power people of the world!!!

Summary
An easy to read, engaging and eye opening way to travel through life.

Me Power by LaNysha T Adams, PhD

Thank you to @henryroipr for the ebook for review.

The author is an educator and an Ivy-League qualified linguist.
Me Power fits somewhere in the self-help section but maybe I should call that section the self-empowerment or Me Power section as aren't all those books designed to improve our lives?

LaNysha breaks down the difference between the idea of empowerment and how that relies on outside sources to validate our self-worth with the idea of taking ownership and empowering ourselves with the principles of Me Power.

The book delves into subjects such as self-awareness and the cyclical nature of learning before concentrating in detail on all the elements of this system of self-improvement.
It's written in an easy to understand style with plenty of anecdotes and stories of people the author has come into contact with. There are examples of all the points raised and how to turn barriers into catalysts for positive change

I really like how the examples don't all come from academics or researchers. There are plenty of real life stories to relate to from those overcoming disabilities to the challenges faced by various well known people on their way to success including Denzel Washington and Master P, a rapper and founder of No Limits records.

There's a shocking story at the beginning of the authors experience of racism and as it happens in a highly educated academic setting it really made me angry and put me on LaNysha's side straight away. Overcoming this situation was certainly one of the building blocks towards the writing of this book.

Each section finishes with asking questions and setting exercises so it's a book that bears repeat reading and encourages study.

A positive book that challenges us to question what we know about ourselves and to realise our potential.

'No one will give you power; you have to claim it's abundance for yourself'

It's quite common to chant the word 'empowerment' without understanding the true essence of it. Despite the depletion of empowerment and concentration on mental health issues today, people fail to utilize it in a proper and effective way.

I'm a sucker for self-development books and anything related to it. And this was one of the best books I've read in the past few months.

The author has done a wonderful job overall. The conveyance of her perception, the purpose of writing this book is relevantly marvelous.
Along with several research and personal experiences, she has shared practical methods to imply the knowledge her book offers.
I'm intrigued by the profoundness of analysation and particular delivery that doesn't just present knowledge in a silver platter, instead encourages to incorporate it in life.

She shares how people continuously underestimate their potential by running on auto-pilot and following outdated patterns which aren't tailored for each of us particularly. Nor do they aid in dealing with current situations. She also narrates that anything can beat one down if they allow it to, circumstances, people and even minor complexities that spice-up the ordinary cycle of life. Hence it's vital to apprehend the power we possess and the mechanism to use it accordingly.Cause what's more powerful than a human that knows it's worth and capability?

I was also able to connect the dots to a spiritual prospect which made it even more compelling to reflect upon.

I'm grateful and proud of the author for persevering against unfavourable circumstances and compiling the lessons learnt to benefit many others☺️

I was given a copy to review via Love Book Tours for a book tour. My reviews are always honest and all opinions are my own. #MePower #LanyshaTAdams #LoveBookTours #BookTourReview #SelfHelp #LBTCrew #BookReview

Me Power was an interesting and informative book that encourages us to find empowerment not via others but by (Our) Me Power. Dr. LaNysha Tufuga Adams is a Ivy-Leage educated linguist and founder of the award-winning education consultancy Edlinguist Solutions asks readers to ponder ‘who do you want to be?’ but to put the answers into actions not thoughts.

I have to say I fell into the trap Adams mentions early in the book. I found myself thinking but if it is Me Power, what about other people and wouldn’t it be selfish to focus on just myself first. No the contrary Adams is suggesting we tap into our limitless potential while connecting with and helping others. No matter the barriers, real or believes, Me Power wants to active the best of who we are and the dismiss the idea that power can be taken, authorised or given away. It something we all have control off and need to begin to realise this to embrace our Me Power.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that was so engaging and spoke so much sense to my mind. It is clear that Adams knows what they are talking about and the way they explain the concept of Me Power is so easy to follow and apply. Filled with real life examples, backed up with psychological and academic research I fully believe a copy of this book needs to be on every shelf. Even if it takes time to begin to follow the steps in this book it is definitely worth the read and one I fully enjoyed.

It is easy to get caught up in the opinions of others, especially in the opinions of those people who seem to be more advanced in one aspect of life or another. But when one’s attention turns from outside to inside, and a person focuses instead on their own self-worth and opinions, the whole trajectory of their life can change. In this inspiring non-fiction guide, author LaNysha T. Adams walks readers through her system of engaging in the “Me Power” that can be found in every human. By following the accessible steps in this book, readers can examine their lives in a different way, and they will find strength and capability beyond what they may ever have thought possible. Through anecdotes from her own life, stories from others, and inspiring quotes, Adams offers evidence and examples from which readers can anchor the ideas expressed within this book. Additionally, the book’s clear design and repetitive nature ensure that the lessons in the book resonate with readers as they move through it. While the messages are strong on their own, readers are also invited and encouraged to bring the book's teachings into their personal lives by practicing the intent delivered in each segment. Reading the book itself can feel heavy at times because of the large blocks of text found on each page, but when paired with the audiobook, there is much to be gleaned from the text as a whole. By the end of the book, readers come away with a tangible approach to enhancing their own innate “Me Power,” and they will feel equipped to take on the next steps with confidence. This is a useful self-help book for readers who can benefit from strengthening their sense of self-worth and intrinsic power.

"No one else is you. That is your power."

Me Power by LaNysha T.Adams is a non-fiction book about empowering yourself and never letting anyone make you think you're not capable of achieving your dreams. Book starts with an ugly memory of writer where she is looked down upon because of her background and advised not to pursue doctoral program from a racist professor. This shatters LaNysha's confidence and makes her doubt her ability. It takes her years to believe in herself and her capabilities again, this is why she wrote this book so she can help others realize their power no matter what they're told by people around them.

Author focused on flaws in USA's education system as to how schools struggle in providing young generation with skills which will help them in future. She says knowledge as well as principled action is necessary to achieve anything in life. She encourages readers to embrace their barriers, focus on their strengths, speak for themselves and choose their own guides since these things will determine their personal growth and success. According to her our true power lies in believing in ourself without depending on approval of others and knowing our self.

Loved how she explained term empowerment and misunderstandings related to it. All the researches, interviews, and experiments added in book made it very interesting and surprisingly I really enjoyed it. (something unimaginable for me because non-fictions isn't really my cup of tea). Though this year I want to discover this genre.
Anyways it was a really informative and inspiring read!

LaNysha T. Adams writes an interesting book about self-empowerment in Me Power

Me Power is a very interesting book. This is the first book I have read from this author. We always hear the word empowerment, but many times that relies on others to make you feel empowered. Me Power, is pulling it out from inside yourself, self-discovery, and making yourself feel empowered, and having a purpose. The book is written in parts, and it is one of those books that you understand while reading it. You don't need a PhD to read it. It's something that when you finish reading, you go and buy the audiobook so you can listen to that as well. A side note on that, as I have reviewed that book as well, the author is the narrator, so you can feel more than just reading words on a page. This book, though, is more than just words on a page. I found it to be an eye opener. I don't always feel empowered, but I try to make sure that there is a purpose in my life, usually more than one, but this book is something I really took to heart. It's not the usual self-help, make me feel good about myself book. It gives you principles to follow, and a framework to tap into yourself. Your inner power and bring it out and acknowledge it. Some of the pages, you end up reading slower than others, so not to miss anything. Me Power is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review.

“You can’t control what happens in life, but you do have the power to choose how you react.”

While there are many things in this book that I don’t necessarily agree with - this is something that I love. It’s absolutely true that many things are out of our control, but our personal reactions and responses are 100% ours. If we can’t control anything else, we can control our reactions and this is the most powerful statement in times of struggle for many.

Overall this book covered a path to self empowerment or Me Power. It didn’t acknowledge the existence of mental illnesses that make it difficult to place the focus needed to complete these tasks (or if it did, it was overshadowed and I honestly cannot remember it). I do wish that because emphasis on our frame of mind was placed that there would have also been emphasis on the struggles that affect the way our brains process information. There were also a bunch of stories that, while interesting, I felt took away from the story itself. If we’re learning to “tap into” this Me Power, I don’t know why we’re reading stories about the authors teachers or famous people - I just didn’t find this to be necessary or completely on topic. I’m pretty picky about that though, so grain of salt and all that.

Thanks to LoveBooksTours and NetGalley for the ebook!

The title and book blurb captured my attention immediately, and I've never been so excited to read and review a book.

For added context, I'm a licensed professional counselor who specializes feminist therapy and treating clients with quarter-life crises, and I'm a millennial on the cusp of 30--needless to say, I needed to read this book not only for my clients but for myself.

I had HIGH expectations for this book, and it SURPASSED my expectations! Dr. Adam's background in education helped to make this book as approachable and actionable as it was. She provided clear explanations, definitions, and call to actions to ACTUALLY apply Me Power to your life. (I've never highlighted so many quotes and passages in a Kindle version!)

Although I LOVE research as much as any other academic nerd, I greatly appreciated her thoughtful and down-to-earth writing style. I also loved the antidotes of her personal life when she applied Me Power and moments when she wished she had. She applies Me Power effectively across different industries, populations, and environments.

It's rare that I recommend a book to my clients; however, I WILL be recommending Me Power to many of my clients struggling with empowerment and finding their sense of self. Thank you, Dr. Adams!

No matter the barriers, Me Power pushes us to activate the best of who we are and dismiss the possibility that power is something we can authorize, give away, or take from others.

Review:
Power me is a self help book
The author has penned down her own personal experiences in the book, it gives realistic approach. The different charts are also added that make it easy to understand what you read. My favorite thing is the quotations that are added at the beginning of every chapter.

"No one else is you. That is your power. "

Me power is not a philosophical book, it is a book that make you find yourself and what power you hold. The me power is based on 5 principles. All of them are explained and are easy to understand.

This book is actually helpful to make someone believe in themselves and to empower the reader.

Can you remember who you were before
the world told you who you should be?

This book explores tapping into our highest potential by stepping into our 'Me Power'
The book sets out to explore the idea that true empowerment is what happens when we step into our me power and the practical steps we can take to manifest it in our lives.
I really enjoyed the book, it touches on some obstacles people have faced in their lives and how they have overcome them. It looks as things such as ableism, racism, sexism etc and then ways people have refused to be held back by them.
Ultimately it says that every obstacle is an opportunity for growth and is there for a reason.
There are also 5 practical steps along with some exercises you can complete to help you to step into your me power.
The book is an easy to follow guide with some really interesting research, such as around the function of the RAS in our brain when it comes to manifesting our desires.
I could go on, but you will have to read it for yourself.
I give the book 5 stars as it is something I will refer back to when I feel overwhelmed by obstacles, and to remind me that I have already have all the power I need within me.

Me Power by Lanysha T. Adams
Published September 22nd 2022

This is a great empowering read especially for the BIPOC community. Her resilience and persistence is something one can recall when those imposter syndrome creep up. This was a very grounding and reaffirming reading experience. #MePowerBook #NetGalley

“Who do you want to be?” We’ve all heard or asked this question before, yet few of us answer it because identity is not fixed, but ever-expanding as we move through life.

Dr. LaNysha Tufuga Adams, Ivy-League educated linguist and founder of award-winning education consultancy Edlinguist Solutions, challenges others to not only answer this question, but to put the answer(s) into action.

Me Power redefines empowerment, encouraging us to tap into our limitless flow of possibility while connecting with others. Me Power written by the author LaNysha T. Adams is an interesting read. This book inspires the readers to activate the best of who they are. In this book, the author has mentioned that we don't have to be empowered by others. Me Power lies within us and we should activate it.

LaNysha has shared five guiding principles of Me Power. These principles are applicable even if our goal or strategies change. If you are looking to find your true self then don't miss to read it. This book is thought provoking. If you are ready to grow and have confidence from within then this could be the book that will help in your transformation.

The thirteen ways to activate Me Power given at the end of the book would be helpful. This book guides you to change your thinking about yourself and others in your life. Self-help book lovers should get their hands on this one. It's a book worth reading.
