This is the fourth book in this series; I’ve now read and enjoyed most of the books in the series, although out of order. This book stands alone very well, though. I love Bridget, the main character, who is a profiler with the BAU of the FBI. The Backroad Butcher that the team helped put away previously has now escaped; it’s not a spoiler since it’s in Amazon’s book description. I won’t say how he escaped, but this book is absolutely packed with twists and turns throughout. It’s a rather crazy story that all makes sense in the end. The stress is all especially hard on Bridget, as this was the case that caused her to take a break from the FBI previously. The writing is very good and I can definitely recommend this book and series. I was provided an arc, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Greed, corruption and deceit

Bridget is drawn into her worst nightmare, the Backwoods Killer is killing again and having almost been one of his victims last time Bridget knows there will be many victims before they can catch him again.
It is good to see Bridget in a better head space second time around, she seems stronger and more confident...especially when it comes to her future with Santini. She knows what she wants, is she strong enough to fight for it?
I really like this series and all the support characters, their personality quirks and flaws keep them relatable and believable. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Melinda Woodhall is the author of the new Veronica Lee Thriller series, as well as the page-turning Mercy Harbor Thriller series. In addition to writing romantic thrillers and police procedurals, Melinda also writes women’s contemporary fiction as M.M. Arvin.

“Time for beginnings…or is it endings?”

When Bridget thought things were going to slow down and that she would find some normal, the worst thing possible happened. It’s going to take every resource available to prevent bodies from piling up and to keep Bridget from becoming a victim.

This was suspenseful from the beginning! I love that I never know where this series is going until I am holding on for dear life, hoping to survive the free fall.

I enjoyed how psychologically and emotionally dark this book was. The levels these characters were pushed to was incredible. The depth, the detail, and the reactions were spot on.

This series gets better with every book. The character development is unreal, and I love that everything expands as the series is released.

I loved the finality with certain scenes, and a definite closing of some chapters, but I also loved the crumb trail for the next book(s) in the series!

I cannot wait to dive into the next case!

A Bridget Bishop FBI Thriller Book #4

Working with FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit criminal psychologist Bridget Bishop tracks down her old nemesis the Backroads Butcher but discover this depraved serial killer is not the only killer terrorizing the small town of Mount Destiny, Virginia. Will she come face to face with the remorseless killer and will she unravel the truth behind the murders? “Road to Evil” will leave us intrigued from start to finish.

Although this book may be the fourth, it stands well by itself. The story is fresh even if all the books centers on serial killers.

This is another winner for Ms. Woodhall. She once again penned an exciting and very captivating story that moves along clear- free never bogs down with unnecessary side bars. The plot stays focus on the tasks Bridget set forth and never wavers. Along the way much excitement awaits us and guessing who may be the real Backroads Butcher is the fun that awaits us. Bridget is a solid character that is helped to achieve her goal by a cast of secondary players who are also well defined, even the evil ones. This book is a real page turner.

“Road to Evil”, gives us all the necessary elements to keeps us engrossed and captive... Well done.

Bridget Bishop, criminal psychologist, still has nightmares about the Backroads Butcher, and when his case comes up for review, she has to face him again. Unfortunately, it doesn’t end how they hoped it would, and Bridget finds herself in the middle of a nightmare scenario.

Bridget and the rest of the characters are back again in this the 4th in the series. The relationships are well formed, and ongoing, and we get to hear more about some of the back stories. As always with this author, it’s a fast paced read, well plotted, with some good twists. I was sure I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong, which is just what you want in a murder mystery. Recommended.

Road to Evil is Book 4 in the Bridget Bishop Series by Melinda Woodhall. I thought that this thriller was off the chart exciting from page 1 until the last page. I have read every book in this series and I feel that Road to Evil is the most intense hold my breath exciting book in the series. Lyle Butcher is the Backroads Butcher and he is evil! He escaped from the court holding room. How did that happen? I felt that the ending was off the chart surprising. I hope Melinda Woodhall writes the next book soon. This is an amazing series. Road To Evil book #4 in the Bridget Bishop FBI Mystery Thriller series, was another very good read. I was happy to see Bridget has finally begun to work through the issues surrounding her earlier days with the FBI that caused her to leave and is working her way back to being a permanent FBI agent once again. I find all the repeating characters in the storyline well form, and we gain more and more of their back story as each book progresses. I would recommend this book to others.

This is my favorite entry in the Bridget Bishop series. It continues the Backwoods Butcher story by revealing more details about the Butcher’s victims and how his crimes left scars on everyone who was involved, including Bridget and other investigators. The resolution of who did what surprised me.

The last couple of chapters hint that there may be more to come with this series. I truly hope so, and would recommend Melinda Woodhall’s work to anyone who likes thrillers with a personal touch. I received an advanced review copy for free from BookSirens, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Book #4 in the Bridget Bishop series and the action never lets down. With Melinda Woodhall you can count on the action starting immediately on page one and to just keep going until the final page is read and you lay the book down with a sigh. What a wonderful series. Bridget is a captivating character and the author has surrounded her with a cast of characters you could expect to see in any complete mystery/murder/thriller series or movie. Melinda Woodhall hit the jackpot with this series, writing an intelligent exciting and thrilling set of stories that the reader can devour and savour every word. If this is your jam I could not recommend it any higher than I do. Wonderful story telling.

Another great story from Melinda Woodhall!!

The excitement in this one was insane, I couldn't put it down.

It was disturbing and depraved in all of the best ways.

This may be my favorite of the series, it's really hard to choose since they have all be so good

He's Back

The Backwoods Butcher is back and his killing spree continues....or does it? There's several twists in this novel starting with the escape of Lyle Grady aka the backwoods butcher. Charlie and Bridget are on a mission to find out who helped him and how they did it. Plus it seems that he has a protege! And.he isn't happy about it! There are several twists and turns in this and I just loved it when it all came together!

Road to Evil is the 4th book in the Bridget Bishop FBI Mystery Thriller series and while it can be read as a standalone, I highly encourage you to read the series from the beginning starting with Lessons In Evil.

Road to Evil takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions, thrills, and a mystery that has you guessing. Bridget Bishop and her involvement with the Backroads Butcher case that she helped on during her career in the FBI’s BAU. When a new development occurs in an old case and the owner of her fears and nightmares is back into her life, Bridget and the team race against the clock to figure out who is unleashing evil back into the small town of Mount Destiny.

There is so much that I want to talk about in regards to this book, but it would spoil it and I feel like you have to experience this book firsthand. I will say that there are many familiar faces and a couple new ones as well. The book is written in multiple first hand POV’s and it helps in getting all aspects of the investigation and the character’s lives. I loved how mental illness and wellness played a part in this book. Taking care of one’s self just isn’t about your outward appearance, but also the inside and your mental state.

This maybe one of my favorite mystery thriller series and every time I read one of the books, I’m left with wanting more. It’s one of the reasons why I love the author’s books so much. She writes the story with no frill or fluff and has the way with words that just make you so engrossed in the world that she’s building and writing. I love the cast of characters in this series and I am so fully investing in them and their lives. I desperately hope this isn’t the end of the series, it seems like there is more that needs to be uncovered. I felt like we got an Easter egg on what might happen in the next book (if there is one) and I am so excited!

I highly recommend this book and the series and I can’t wait to see what the author writes next. If you are in need of an easy to read good mystery thriller where there’s a female lead, then this is the book for you.

What a wild and disturbing ride into the mind of a depraved killer! Dr. Bridget Bishop is back, along with the wonderful cast of characters that make this series and this book so interesting to read. Bridget Bishop worked with the FBI's BAU and was responsible for arresting the Backroads Butcher. He was an especially brutal killer who cut off the heads of his victims and dropped their headless bodies on the side of the road. Gross and creepy are two words that come to mind. Lyle Grady's newest lawyer has found evidence that he was not responsible for the death of a reporter named Tammy (even though he was definitely responsible for the death of 7 others). This is a grand scheme to help him escape custody, but the troops realize he had to have outside help. You are then taken on a wild ride as they search for this depraved killer while trying to protect any possible new victims. Melinda Woodhall is a talented writer. She may be one of the best mystery writers in that you will never guess who the killer(s) may be in this book or any book she writes. She always leaves me with my mouth hanging wide open, and wondering what just happened! She provides plenty of suspects that will make you will doubt anyone and everyone's innocence or guilt. This conclusion in this book was shocking to say the least. I also love the fact that the author writes her story. She does not fill the pages with useless words and nonsense just to fulfill a word count. Every word and every chapter are necessary to the story. This type of writing keeps me engrossed completely into the story. I actually had to read something a little "lighter" before I could go to bed after finishing this suspense filled tale! Once again Melinda Woodhall has struck gold with this one!

If you have been reading this series, this is the book we've have been waiting for which explains the reason why Bridget left the FBI. I would had like this book maybe as book two or book three. It seems it's little far back into the series. In any case, it still doesn't distract from the Series.

It's one you won't want to miss! The book caught my attention from the moment I started reading the first page until the last page. I didn't want to put the book down so I read all day. You'll meet some wonderful characters, one in particular of the name Bridget who has spent most of her life studying and trying to understand why a person becomes a serial killer.

One may think they know what's going to happen with each of the characters because they work for the FBI, US Marshall, Corners Office, or are family member, ex-cons, prisoners, and serial killers. Also, you may think you have figured out how the plot is going to fold out and will end.

Wrong! Things won't happen as you may expect. She keeps surprising me! The book is unpredictable, realistic, has twists and unpredictable turns, lots of action, entertaining, easy to read, page turner and there is some romance.

To really enjoy this book I recommend you read the first book or at least through the second book in the Series. It's best to wait to have read all of the first three books before you read this book in the Series to get the full value of the book.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys Murder Mystery, Serial Killer, Crime Fiction, Suspense Thriller, Women Sleuth and FBI Thriller books. I looking forward to reading the next book in the Series.

Road To Evil is book four in the Bridget Bishop series. This book is no different in my opinion on books in a series. Starting at the beginning is best, but this one can definitely be a stand-alone as most are.

This book starts out with Heather Winslow and her new boyfriend heading to her sister, Reagan Rivera for Thanksgiving. Reagan is supposed to pick them up at the airport when they exit the terminal, they see a man holding a sign with Heather's name on it. They get into the car and before too long Heather realizes something is wrong and looks for her phone. They pull over and the driver shoots the boyfriend and Heather runs into a cave and falls into an open mine shaft. Reagan meanwhile is in court trying to get Grady, the Backroads Butcher, conviction overturned due to DNA evidence not being considered at the first trial. While they are waiting for a witness to appear he escapes and kills an officer in the process.

Lyle Grady was now a free man with a list of people to continue his revenge. Max Bender has been threatening Reagan into helping Grady to escape by holding Heather captive, but Reagan also ends up a victim. With the Backroads Butcher on the loose there will be many more victims left in the wake of Max Bender and Lyle Grady but is Grady guilty of all the murders. Bridget and the team will have their work cut out for them.

I really enjoy all of Melinda Woodhall's series. They often overlap by bringing old favorites from other series into new ones. That is what make all of her books really entertaining to read. There is so much history shared between them, and the characters are flawed but very likeable. I look forward to each new book knowing it will be a good read.

Well, what can I say, Melinda Woodhall has once again knocked it out of the ball park with book four of "A Bridget Bishop FBI Mystery Series"

After putting her life on the line to catch Lyle Grady, "the backroads butcher", Bridget was looking forward to spending thanksgiving with Deputy Marshal Vic Santino but it was not to be.

Lyle Grady had, in the most hideous way, murdered eight young people in the small town of Mount Destiny, Virginia, Bridget Bishop, a criminal Psychologist, had played a big part in bringing Grady to justice and he was serving eight consecutive life sentences in Abbeyvale State Prison………..until he wasn't.

Grady was on the loose, the fear in the town was palpable yet again and Grady wasn't working alone, the team were numb when they realised that there were only a small number of people that could be helping him and their names were on the list.

This is edge of your seat suspense, it is action packed, the murders are sickeningly macabre and the body count is escalating, no one is safe, especially Bridget, they are back to square one.

This plot is so devious, it leads down roads that become dead ends, it throws out red herrings, everyone is a suspect and it is not until the very end that the second murderer is revealed..and no, I didn't guess who it was.

I really couldn't put this book down, I love the characters that the author has built up in the series, I love the gentle romance between Bridget and Santino and the uncertainties and guilt and I am hoping against hope that the next book will be Santino's story, a well deserved five stars.

I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

Guess who’s back?! Yep, it’s Bridget Bishop! This is book 4 of the series and Melinda Woodall has written another great one. I’m still debating if I liked this or the third book better. Either way, they’re all great and I really think that you should put them on your TBR list, in order of course.

Before I go any further, I would just like to let you know that I received an ARC from BookSirens and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

What I liked about this book is that it went back and gave us more of the history of the Backroads Butcher and even brought that character and some info about his victims back. Bridget left the BAU because of how things played out with this case and it had been the star of quite a bit of her nightmares. Well, you guessed it, she’s been brought back in to help the BAU with this case.

Melinda’s characters are continuing to grow and Bridget even makes a pretty big lifestyle change, before this book ends. I’m really looking forward to reading book 5 because it’ll answer questions that I’ve had since book one.

I don’t think there’s much that I didn’t like about this book, other than it not being an edge of your seat, nail biter. I think that’s just fine. We don’t always need those kinds of books. It actually allowed me to get some other things done while I was taking a break (like sleep because of these horrible migraines)!

Anyway, I still would recommend these to everyone that loves a good mystery. I would even recommend that you start following Melinda Woodhall because she’s got some other great series out there, not just Bridget Bishop.

As always, my fellow Goodreader’s, Happy Reading and/or Listening! 📚🎧💜

One of my favorite authors is Melinda Woodhall as I have loved all her different series and how one way or another they just interconnect and flow together. The Bridget Bishop Series is the fourth series of her's that I am going through and after this, there are two more - the Bailey Flynn and Frankie Dawson. In Road to Evil, the Backwoods Butcher who Bridget Bishop put away after catching him when no one else could have escaped from the courthouse. What will he do, now that he is free? Will he chase down the people who put him behind bars or is he just wanting to be free and start over? The thing is though that there is another killer known as Max Bender and he is determined that he will never be caught as he almost got away with it once before with Tammy Vickers, but new DNA has come to light. This causes Max to come up with a plan and kill a few more in the style of Grady if the police are after Grady, then he is free but Grady isn't going to go down for murders that he didn't commit. Can Bridget not only find Grady but also Max Bender before others get hurt? I also liked in this book there was mention of Vic Santino's wife Maribel who was murdered and is currently an unsolved case as this will be a case that is talked about in Book #5 which I had somehow read before this one - oops LOL. I am now looking forward to continuing with this series and checking out Book #6 Valley of Evil.

This is the 4th book in the series and it is another winner. The story begins with Bridget and others from the FBI at a hearing for a retrial of the Backroads Butcher. The team had captured him and he was convicted of 8 murders. This retrial was for the last one that was done and he stated that he was not the killer. His new lawyer had the FBI retest DNA that was found and they confirmed that the DNA was not his. At the hearing a recess was called and the accused escaped from a conference room killing a guard as well as injuring his new lawyer. As a result a task force was established.

Follow the team as they began their search for him in addition to the individual that helped him with his escape. Grady, the killer had information who the real killer of the last victim and blackmailed this person to help him further. Grady in addition dropped off packages that contained info on the killings. Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to prevent additional killings that happened by both Grady and the other unknown killer.

.
The ending was completely unexpected and a great finish to this book. It is definitely worth reading.

This is book 4 in the Bridget Bishop FBI Mystery Thriller series, set in the small Virginian town of Mount Destiny, and I’ve read them all. Whilst it could be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the full series for background. After leaving the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit Bridget is working as a consultant but when her nemesis Lyle Grady, the Backroads Butcher, escapes from a courtroom she is back working the case. Written in multiple POV’s I think this is my favourite in the series so far.

Briefly, Grady was in court claiming innocence in one of the cases that he had been convicted for after new DNA evidence was found. It soon becomes clear that he isn’t the only killer murdering and decapitating the bodies.

There are some great characters and it’s good to see Bridget and Santino’s relationship doing well, and why wouldn’t it with the lovely Hank to keep things moving smoothly! With multiple potential killers I was completely blindsided by the red herrings and didn’t have a clue who the second killer was. A well written story with a great plot this really is a good police procedural series.

Bridget finds herself once more helping the FBI find the Butcher after he escapes from the courthouse where he was appearing for a hearing to have evidence retested in order to prove he had been convicted for a murder in which he was innocent. Once more Bridget is having to deal with the perpetrator of the case that caused her so much trauma she resigned from the FBI and went into private practice.

Road to Evil is the best book yet in the Bridget Bishop Series. Former FBI associates, Gage, Hale, and Day, along with the US. Marshall Santino once again join Bridget as they hunt down Grady trying to capture him before anyone else becomes his victim. But there may be another killer out there as evidence seems to support that murders are being committed by someone imitating Grady. Anyone who watches shows such as Criminal Minds should enjoy reading this book. It has cemented Melinda Woodhall as one of my must read authors.

I received an ARC of this book. The opinions expressed are my own honestly and voluntarily given.

A living nightmare

Bridget Bishop is back and her worst nightmare has come to life. The case that haunts her that caused her to resign from the BAU is back and that killer might be getting a new trial. And suddenly the team and Bridget are back in a nightmare and trying their best to find that killer again. The victims’ families are in danger, the press is hounding them and the clock is ticking. Can they find the evil before it spreads or will they be too late to stop it from spreading?
These books are all encompassing, heart pounding, can’t put the book down thrilling! The way we see the case from multiple perspectives both the FBI and the killer’s make the stories special. It’s not just a police procedural it’s a real time experience and we are seeing things unfold from both sides. At times it’s graphic this one especially due to the MO of the killer. Even that doesn’t take away from the fantastic story telling of the author. This book is a can’t miss read!

It took years for Bridget to finally get over the trauma of the Backroads Butcher. With a new lawyer requesting DNA on supposedly for his last murder proving he did not kill her. He was framed. The victims family and friends were upset as well as the FBI. In the blink of an eye he escaped the courthouse.
Lyle Grady was now a free man. He had a list of people to take revenge on. Since he decapitated his victims only he knew were their heads were. He needed to tie up loose ends. The man claiming to be Max Bender was on the top of his list but first he needed to get things from him.
With the Backroads Butcher on the loose sent chaos not only to the victim's families and FBI but to Bridget as well.
Tick tock. It's only a matter of time before the Backroads Butcher strikes again.

Well! What to say to describe book four in this brilliant series? The synopsis is all in the blurb, so no need to tell the story here. The writing is great, as in all this author's books that I've read and enjoyed. The descriptions of place, of the action and the feelings of the characters make them all easy to step into and understand. The subject matter - the way the murders are carried out is particularly brutal so not for you if you don't like reading about violence. However, the actions of the main characters concerned in the crimes do make one question why some people act the way they do - and would I act differently in their place?
There is ample love and honour in the story to balance the bad and I am starting book five to follow the stories started near the end of this book. Although it isn't necessary to read the books in order, I personally feel it helps understand the principal character's motives - and the books are so good they are well worth reading!

This book was 5 star amazing. Bridget and Santino and crew of Hale and Gage and Charlie always have a difficult task of finding out the who done it while they are still doing it. This one is no different. An old case gets reopened, and a very bad man escapes custody. But in reality, there are two very bad men. The one who helps and the one who escapes. This book sent us down so many twists and turns and some black holes (mine shafts literally a black hole) that you wonder how they can ever figure out the who done it. The story begins with several pieces that initially don’t seem related but over time it all comes together. I was shocked as to how any why the accomplice was. Why kind of made sense you do things you shouldn’t you deserve to pay the price. I love the characters in this series and look forward to reading the next book. Well worth the time to read it.

WOW!!! Requesting this book I knew it was number 4 in the series but this one can ABSOLUTELY stand alone, that being said I was intrigued by all of the other books in the series so have read them all and I am so happy I did!! The series focuses on former FBI Behavior Analyst Bridget Bishop, I am a HUGE fan of 'Criminal Minds' so was very familiar with the different roles and had a very good idea of what that position entails. All 4 books focus on separate serial killer cases and as I said you can read them all individually without missing anything but all four books are superb. I am very happy to have been introduced to Melanie Woodhall and am looking forward to reading more series she has published. Love the Bridget Bishop series. A page turner that you won't want to put down. Full of suspense having you sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering what could possibly be coming next and the ending twist you won't see coming. This series has a great cast of characters. Melinda's style of writing will draw you in from the very beginning. She knows how to grab your attention and hold it throughout her book. A manhunt for an escaped serial killer and possibility of a partner or is it a copy cat killer trying to pin his murders on the Backroads Butcher? You'll just have to read to find out. Highly recommend. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.

What a brilliant read this was. You are grabbed right from the start when Lyle Grady is back in court for an appeal against his convictions for multiple murders. He manages to escape and from there, we are treated to a non-stop thriller of a ride where Bridget and the BAU and rest of the usual characters try to track Grady down.

There is barely room to breathe here, such is the intense nature of the story. The fear and dread just jumps off the page at what Grady might do next. Things are made worse when it appears that there is a second person involved. There are even more twists in store and the ending was a complete shock to me.

The only good thing about finishing this is that the author is very prolific so hopefully there isn't too long a wait for the next in the series.

Melinda Woodhall's latest in the Bridget Bishop series, "Road to Evil" is exactly what we have come to expect from Ms Woodhall. I have yet to be disappointed by this series (and others!) and was held from page 1, as Bridget is again confronted with the evilness of The Backroads Butcher - memories of a previous case which have long haunted her again come to the surface as she hunts this evil killer. With the support of the teams from the BEA and FBI who we have met in previous books, we watch as she confronts pure evil, only to find there is a second copycat killer to add to the mix.

This book has it all - while I've loved all the books in this series, I think this is the best one yet.

Thank you to BookSirens for an advance copy of this book which I have reviewed voluntarily.

Book 4 in a great series. If you have not read 1-3 you will not be lost, but you will be cheating yourself out meeting the characters for the first time, watching them grow or even take steps back a time or too, just like life. These books provide thrilling mystery laced with suspense and always some surprises. If you like strong, but flawed human beings tracking down killers and more you will love this series! I found Melinda Woodhall through Book Sirens and am so glad! She has other series too and I am excited to check them out. If you want to entertained, intrigued I recommend Melinda Woodhall's Bridget Bishop series. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions! #Roadtoevil #bridgetbishopfbi #melindawoodhall #booksirens #creativemagnolia
