This modern take on the "where did you come from" adoption book celebrates open adoption. Through words and illustrations, the characters express the immense amount of love that everyone involved in the process has for the adoptee.
Being both an adoptee and an adoptive parent, Allison Olson has a unique perspective on the topic of adoption. Her goal is to build confidence and self-esteem in young adoptees by changing the adoption narrative from the “lucky" child to the “loved" child.

So glad to have a book that addresses open adoption. We have books that discuss it for our daughter, but few speak to the experience of knowing your birth parent(s). Since open adoption is her reality it's great to have a book she can see more of her own story in. No adoption book will ever perfectly match every adoptee's story, but the more it aligns with our child's story the better. This one hit the nail on the head! And the illustrations are so cute!
Adoption is close to my heart—my sister, husband, and children of close family friends were adopted. However, none of them were adopted through open adoption. The book doesn’t go into any details about why the birth mom chose open adoption, so it should be applicable to most open adoptions.
This book is a wonderful way to tell your child about is it her within. A wonderful story of life. Colorful pictures and a sweet story with a feel good vibe.
Allison wrote a beautiful story about an open adoption process. The illustrations are lovely. The story reflects the love of two families and shares a message of adoption. The book is a reminder that the child is surrounded by love.
This lovely book was a great addition to our library! My daughters are both adopted and we love to reread this favorite over and over. I especially love how wonderfully the author expressed the love from birthmother. This book is an instant classic!
This book is a beautiful written adoption book but it fall into the “baby adoption” group of adoption books. 📚 I am looking for a book about adoption for slightly older children.
Love the focus on love! It’s nice to have a children’s book that so beautifully describes what an open adoption can look like. It’s also so nice to have a book that my kids can relate to regarding their birth story. So happy to add this to our lil library!
