If losing my job as an elementary teacher on the last day of school wasn’t bad enough, I walked in on my boyfriend … and my sister … in bed. Together. Apparently, it’s been going on for a while. I decide now is the best opportunity for me to get out of Oklahoma, where I’ve lived my entire life, and start fresh in Colorado. But then I mix up the address for my bed-and-breakfast, instead showing up at the home of the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.
Nathan makes it known immediately he’s not interested. He’s focused on his son, his family, and his work. Every time he sees me, he’s more pissed off. He’s even more agitated when I’m assigned as his son’s teacher. His adorable son, Jack, is a beautiful soul, and I’m getting through to him like no one else has. But every time I’m in the same room with Nathan sparks fly. How long will he avoid this chemistry? And when my past comes back to haunt me, will Nathan stand by me, or will he leave me like everyone else?
Forever Sunshine is a small-town contemporary romance. It is book one of the Forever Series but can be read as a standalone. It features a grumpy single dad and a guaranteed Happily Ever After. Forever Sunshine features sexually explicit material, profanity, and some content that may be triggering. This book is intended for readers 18+.
For whatever reason, this book does not have a blurb. However, I found it through a Facebook group where the author said:
“She catches her boyfriend in bed with her sister and cuts them both off after moving out of state, not before sticking half eaten shrimp in tons of hiding places throughout their house.”
And onto my review.
DNF at 21%. The drama in this book is over the top in a bad way. Yes, she finds her boyfriend in bed with her sister who kind of laughs maniacally and continues to have sex while the heroine is watching. It’s bizarre! Add that, the boyfriend begs to have another chance and when he doesn’t get it, he curses her out and calls her frigid. The sister calls the heroine on her cell phone while she and the boyfriend are banging and the boyfriend is heard once again calling the heroine frigid. And then again, the boyfriend begs to have another chance! And when that female main character says no, he tells her to leave the house in 24 hours. And we have another couple switches of personality back-and-forth for this boyfriend. It was such a weird start!
The female main character moves to Colorado and immediately meets the hero. For absolutely no reason, he is a total jerk to her for the first three times they meet. Or was it more? His sister tells her that “he’s only mean to you because he likes you“. I don’t have a lot of patience for that kind of crap of little boys pulling your pigtails as a way to tell you that they like you. It normalizes cruelty and bad behavior.
I could keep reading, but I choose to go on to better books. I just read the part where, out of nowhere, he gives her bedroom eyes and touches her face. Up to this point he was a jerk. Add to that, while he was a jerk, he still made sexually inappropriate comments to her. This book is just not worth it! This author doesn’t seem to know how to move a story forward without excessive drama.
Forever Sunshine is a great first book by the author, Jennifer J Williams. It's filled with lots of those guilty pleasure heartwarming moments that I can't help but love in grumpy sunshine small-town romance stories.
Emily is an elementary school teacher looking for a fresh start in Colorado, where she takes a new job, meeting single dad Nate and his autistic son, Jack. It's a whirlwind romance, and eventually, the past that Emily is running from catches up with her.
The story does feel a bit underdeveloped in places; at times, it was like I was reading a novella. Forever Sunshine has great high-action scenes - the confrontations and spice - but it's the connecting in-between moments that, for me, could have gone deeper. So much happens in the first 40 per cent; it could have almost been a book on its own.
Overall, this is an easy book to enjoy. It's under 300 pages, has dual POV, heartfelt romance and some excellent spice. I blew through it in one sitting, so I'm glad I spotted the rec in a Facebook group.
I’m rounding up to 3 bc there aren’t many reviews and I don’t want to drag down the overall rating bc I’m a harsh reviewer.
Anyway, the plot had potential the issue was there just wasn’t enough. Enough of anything. Enough backstory, enough character building, enough relationship building, etc. It just dove in and escalated at speed 100000. The male and female mc met eachother and hated eachother for a minute but then suddenly Insta love and they’re obsessed with eachother and blah blah blah.
Just too much too fast without enough to build to that.
This book was so underwritten, and the plot was all over the place that it was actually funny. I finished it just because I couldn’t stop laughing at the random plot twists.
Nathan is a single Dad to a little boy with Autism. He was burnt by live with his previous relationship and hasn’t had the desire to put himself out there.
Emily walks in on her live in boyfriend and her sister in her bed. After a drunken night with her best friend she sends out multiple resumes and takes a teaching job out of State.
This story had all the elements that I love
Grumpy/ Surly alpha MMC FMC that is not a doormat and gives it right back when needed “Off limits/don’t touch her mentality” When he finally gets it together and realizes she’s it for him…. He is all in and doesn’t let up.
So excited to read the next one with Liam and Olivia!!
liked it all up until realizing i was reading something that could have (or not) been written in wattpad back in 2012. the shooting and the kidnaping of the kid! come onnnnnn
DNF. I know I gave up on this one early but I just can’t stand the OTT ridiculousness. Plus the two main characters being mean for no reason. Not my thing.
4 stars 3.5 steamy kisses Book #1 in the Forever series
single dad, opposites attract, special needs parent, teacher heroine, autistic child, a touch of romantic suspense, book series, possessive alpha hero, small town romance
This book immediately caught my attention because the father is a single special needs dad and as a special needs mama, I appreciate the support, awareness, and acceptance in the fictional world including, embracing, and accepting that there are and in this case, a parent, family, friends, and a teacher who interact, care, and love an autistic child who may require a little more attention/love/care so the chemistry and that nurturing hearts that both main characters have made this a bonus to the already passionate attraction between them as both have been hurt by former lovers but are dealing with their troubles in different ways. The development of future characters' storylines was done well too. The touch of drama between them fighting a possible future together and then the blast from the past that threatens the heroine made the story for me a promising 4-star read.
(SPOILERS) . . . . . . . This book features a cute romance between two people who need therapy and a LOT of TLC. At several points I wanted to wrap up both Emily and Nathan and just take them away from the author because they need to be treated nice and not hurt so bad (they get their HEA, no worries there, but ugh, my heart 😭).
Nathan is definitely my favorite character. He has a lot of understandable hurt, and as a parent to an autistic child myself I understand him on a level I don't usually experience when reading. His chemistry with Emily is just .. 🥵🥵🥵 and I absolutely love how well they compliment each other.
The pacing is good, the writing style is unique and features a lot of internal thoughts that lend a very nice perspective during varying scenes (the author hops between the two nicely, and not too often), and I ADORE the final chapter and how they end up together. The way that Nathan talks to Emily during their sweet moments together is so damn lovely. And the spicy scenes are *chef's kiss*
Definitely excited to read the next one!

This book was actually adorable! It’s borderline sickening when the main couple are lovey dovey haha but it’s overall a super cute fluffy read! Emily is dating her longtime boyfriend Dan and she isn’t really sure where they are going with their relationship. She comes home early one evening to find her sister and her boyfriend in bed together and she knows right then and there that this was a sign and she is leaving and not looking back! Her sister is basically the devil reincarnated and she is so done with her ruining her life! Emily finds a new job, a new state, and wants to start her new life! Who knew that it would come with a grumpy hunky scrumptious man who is also a dad? Emily starts her new teaching job and somehow, coincidentally of course, is teaching Mr. Grumpy’s son, and from there it’s history…. Just kidding her sister is a psycho bitch and she needs to deal with her lol. ANYWAYS this story was a really quick and easy read and I absolutely loved all the supporting characters!
Emily moves across the country when she discovers her partner in bed with her sister. The first person she encounters when she gets to her new town is Nathan and sparks fly, from heat & animosity. He is rude to her and he thinks she is just like his cheating ex, but neither of them can deny the attention they feel. When it turns out Em is also his very cute, especial son Jack’s new teacher Nathan is not impressed, but when he sees how his son reacts to her he is taken aback. They bond over his son and their attraction quickly turns to more, for both of them which I loved. The heat between them was scorching! Loved it. I Emily is so sweet, loving and kind. Nathan was such a great dad, strong, capable and even with everything he went through, wanted to open his heart to Em. Emily’s past comes back to haunt her with a vengeance. Oh my god, I hated her sister. The things she did to Emily and those around her! I was glad to see things all worked out for Em & Nathan in the end and loved their epilogue.
This was better in theory than it was in actual execution. I wasn't expecting it to be anything revolutionary or super original after reading the blurb, which is totally fine. It was just over the top and all over the place in my opinion. Some of the spicy scenes were a little cringy as well. I probably still would've rated this 3 stars, but the third act conflict just really ruined it for me. The whole book was leading up to some type of confrontation with the crazy sister, but the way it actually played out just did not do it for me. I couldn't see why it was necessary to put Jack, an autistic child who was already traumatized by his mother's death, through another trauma. It didn't add any significance to the plot, and like I said, I just found it to be unnecessary and again, over the top.
I DNF'D this book at chapter 3. The opening is fantastic and I was really intrigued by the whole set up. Plot and characters started very strong.
Where the author lost me was the tense flipping. I was confused, frustrated, and knew it would give me a headache to edit in my head as I read. Pick a tense! Either present tense, where all the action is currently happening. Or past tense, when the action already happened and you're telling us about it. You can't do both in one sentence.
I refuse to give less than 3 stars when the issue is personal preference or something in the style that bothers me. But if you're like me, and tense hopping bothers you, then move on. If you're not like me and you don't even know what tense hopping is, you will probably really enjoy this book. I'm sure I would have without that issue.
This was had all the makings of something that I love to read -- small town romance, 'enemies' to lovers, single dad and a kid who falls in love with the fmc. But unfortunately, this did not deliver for me. The writing didn't flow as it should have but that was something I could've over looked but the mmcs and fmcs? The mmc being so hostile towards the fmc for no reason other than she was hot and hes been hurt by his ex ? I'm all for the grumpy mmc but not when he's a complete asshole for no reason. Anyways, and then the have a moment but he has to leave and then he blames her because he wasn't there for his son when he got hurt??? (kids get hurt tf) and then hes a dick to her AGAIN -- and then they make up... idk this just pissed me off because why are they so hot and cold and thats already at the 50% mark. Anyways, I rated this higher bec
Grumpy/Sunshine single dad are definitely in my favorites trope!!! And this debut novel nailed all my favorites in a book. When I start a book and the first chapter let me wanting more and more I know I made the right decision. This book grab my entire attention in the first sentence. Nathan is so romantic and swooning, I love how he falls head over heels for Emily. Jack stole my heart the first time I meet him. Emily is definitely his sunshine with all the lights and life they both need. The twist and turns are mind blowing. I was in shock when everything was developing. And I love every second of their HEA. Can’t wait for more of this new author and all this amazing characters and the community of Mountain Spring.
I realize this is the first book for this author but it could have used further review with an editor. The story is a bit all over the place. The two main characters do a lot of telling rather than showing their feelings and at times I found it hard to root for either of them. The H is a jerk to the h on numerous occasions and she just allows it to happen because he’s attractive. My biggest concern was the treatment of the young boy with autism. He felt like a plot device rather than a fully developed character and it came across as a little offensive to me. Plus, the kid goes through a major trauma off page and then is subjected to yet another major trauma on page and it’s all a bit much. This one was just not for me.
For the most part I really enjoyed this book. Nathan is a grumpy, single day while Emily, is a happy, school teacher. What's not to love, right? Elements of their love story are very heartwarming and sweet. Especially the moments that include Nathans' autistic son. While being sweet there is also a strong level of spice that is always welcome.
However, the continued involvement of the deranged older sister felt very unnecessary. The story could have moved along nicely without her involvement. Also the demise of the sister felt very rushed and unemotional which didn't make sense to me. The fallout and impact from the events felt very muted and glossed over. This is what stopped the book being five stars.
I loved this book! EM and Nathan are amazing. I love how this author hits real life issues and doesn’t sugar coat them to perfection. This book helped break up the reading funk I was in.
*Warning Spoilers may occur*
We start out with Em and her no good man sleeping with her sister…. Fast forward to her getting a job as a teacher in Colorado. She accidentally goes to the wrong address for the B&B and meets Mr. Tall, dark, and grumpy 😂. They literally run into each other and he’s grumpy EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. They decide to be together but they encounter quiet a bit of drama and trauma.
But in the end you get your sunshine meets grumpy HEA.

I wasn't expecting this book to have such intense and amazing plot. I expected a cute small town, single dad romance, and I got the drama. The twists and turns of the plot were a refreshing thing to read.
I also love the characters, because they all have very distinctive personalities and were written to portray realistic people, who make mistakes and navigate life as best as they can.
I love the autism representation in the book, Jack was such a cute part of the story. And it was a very important part of the book!
I really enjoyed this book, can't wait to read the rest of the series!
This was a DNF at 20% for me. The writing was clunky with a lot of telling rather than showing. The H tells the h she is all sunshine based on two small interactions when she did not behave remotely sunshiny. The H is labeled as grumpy again without behaving grumpy in any other interactions. The initial interactions were just over the top on the mean rudeness scale for no apparent reason. When a rude interaction happened in front of a small autistic child (which should be avoided even if he was not autistic) I was done.
Aww I loved this book, it had everything in it. Nate aka Mr grumpy is just great. He's the perfect dad and when finally with Emily, he's the perfect bf. Emily is unlucky in love, finding her bf in bed with her unstable sister and makes the best decision by leaving. I love how her and Nates relationship blossoms and even after the return and drama with her sister, they rekindle and end up the perfect family. One thing I did love about this book was how they approached autism in children, it was covered and spoke about so well. Definitely a must read.
This was an amazing book that had so many different elements I loved! Grumpy/Sunshine, Single Dad, drama!! It was sooo good and NATHAN!! He was flawed but once he was all in he was perfect! Him and Jack are so sweet but Em and Jack even sweeter!!
Emily is what I love about FMC she was strong and sassy but also sweet and kind!! She was perfect for Nathan and I would read so much more about this couple!! The spice was also sooo hot!!
The drama is fierce but makes sense and towards the end, the 3rd act was a DOOZY!!! But this is a guaranteed HEA!!! Go read this now!!
I devoured this one. I was hooked immediately and read this in one afternoon.
I adored Jack immediately, he was the best and my heart completely broke for him. I can’t even imagine what he went through.
Nathan and all his grumpy glory was definitely my favorite, he had also been through so much I know he was hurting and yet he was the absolute best dad to Jack. I loved his and Emily’s dynamic after they figured out their shit and I really enjoyed the friend group in this one.
All three definitely had a lot to work through and definitely need some therapy but their love and journey together was so fun to read about.
Romance wise, I’d give it 3 stars but the writing just wasn’t acceptable. It got on my nerves, i had the urge to dnf like about 50 times but I wanted to know what happens at the end so i stuck through it. Nathan was not just grumpy but a dick at first before he turned around 360 and became very sweet and swoony?! The plot was mediocre, but some of the scenes were childish af i visibly cringed. Booktok did me dirty on this one but we all have our hits and miss. I hate being so negative about a book but im mad rn so…
What in the world did I just read and how did I finish it? Lol.
I read the blurb and I was like "Yes! We love a FMC who gets harmless, petty revenge before leaving and ghosts everyone to start over elsewhere." I was looking forward to it.
Just a few pages in and I was debating finishing it. This was written in an amateur, over the top (in a bad way), cringy dialogue kinda way. The way these characters talked to each other had me laughing more than anything.
I can't even say it was a typical Wattpad quality because I've read some good shit on Wattpad. This was not it.
Loved everting about this book! The story is really funny while at the same time empowering as both characters fight for what they want as well as heal their past wounds.
Enjoyed seeing how completely and utterly Nat fall for Emily. And seeing her with Jack, how she slowly helped him open up again was beautiful. Ohh and their spicy scenes were very good, they were what we romance readers look for hahaha
Overall I enjoyed this book very much and now I’m hooked and can’t wait to read the next one on the series!!!
This book features a grumpy sunshine romance between single dad Nate and teacher Emily. Emily is running from finding her boyfriend in bed with her sister. Nate's son is autistic and his total focus -- he isn't looking for a relationship. When these two meet, though, there is instant attraction and they start a relationship. Will they both be able to see past what has happened to them before and move on to something better?
