Written over a period of six years, branching between adolescence and adulthood, An Ocean of Wine is a collection of modern young adult poetry with over 200 poems split into four chapters covering contemporary sentiments on relationships, grief, loss, sex, love, body image, relationships and self-healing. It is everything individuals of the new generation wanted to say but didn't; everything we want to feel and everything we wish we didn't have to feel.
I’m slowly catching up on some of the releases from Squirrel House Publishing that I haven’t read yet. This one, An Ocean of Wine, is not a collection I expected to fall in love with. However, the author is so talented and these poems were some of the best love/heartbreak poems I’ve ever read. The imagery and wording was crafted so carefully.
An Ocean of Wine is poetry at its most sincere and absolute finest. I have followed the author Tarryn Lea for some time on Instagram (shout out to @TheHumbleWordSmith ). The passion, wisdom and sheer skill from their words can be found contained in these pages. It is a longer collection at 200+ but it will feel like a breeze as the words flow easily. More than most collections, the author has cut themselves open for us to see reflections in the blood.
