These One Ring 2e supplements are elegant and well made. Not only are the wonderful objects in their own right, they are clearly written with passion and much respect. I found Ruins of the Lost Realm so handy that I bought it even after reading it, imagine that.

My one burgeoning complaint with the system is that the layering of locations is palpable and one yearns for an almost electronic integrated system in which all the locations were visible. Does this exist? Perhaps a third party solution?

In any case, super useful for any set of nerds who love Eriador and wish to venture cross it again and again, but out of the Fellowship's footsteps and far from the Hobbit paths. Recommended.

Solid setting and scenario book to add to The One Ring roleplaying game (second edition).

Roughly half-a-dozen regions in Eregion get detailed along with three factions in league with the Enemy. A dozen adventure sites are also detailed with enough variety that anybody should be able to find something. The factions each have a timeline for escalation to guide a referee through a multi-year escalation of the threat in parallel with Sauron's machinations at the end of the Third Age. With all of the adventure seeds, NPCs, and hooks in this book, you could easily keep a game running for years...in game and out!

Middle-earth means many things now after nearly 100 years. Some of what's in Ruins of The Lost Realm might not fit everybody's paradigm. Take what you want and leave the rest. More than enough to go around.

This book serves to further flesh out the lands of Eriador described as the default setting in the new 2nd edition core book. The best thing about this book are the three “dark designs” sections, each one offering a timeline of events that will unfold if a sinister faction isn’t stopped by the player characters. Those factions being the Black Numenoreans, the Dunlendings, and Saruman.

These give the GM an ongoing threat that the players have to deal with, and that gives the game a sense of urgency that can otherwise be missing in a game like The One Ring that is structured more around sandbox exploration and seasonal events.

A really really interesting book, that adds a lot of flavour and details in several areas of Eriador, giving ideas of several possible campaign threats, as well as individual adventures. The writing is really good and it really feels like an extension of Tolkien's work, written by really knowledgable and skillful fans! I would argue it might be even worth buying for general LotR fans, outside of the TTRPG circles!

Ruins of the Lost Realm

This is a great book, with great production values and a lovely feel. It's consistently interesting and enjoyable to peruse. I don't play the tabletop game, but thoroughly enjoy reading the expanded lore contained within.
