Snow is falling on Little Newdale; decorations are being hung and joy is in the air. But at Red Robin Cottage, Sarah is feeling far from merry and bright…
Since her marriage went up in flames like a Christmas pudding, there’s nothing Sarah Dunne wants more than a peaceful festive season filled with carols and mince pies. But Sarah’s teenage daughter Ellie is feeling the winter blues, faced with spending the holiday without her father.
Desperate to bring home some seasonal cheer and make this a Christmas to remember for Ellie, Sarah follows the trail of fairy lights into the snow-covered village. Among the holiday crowds she finds herself gazing into the soft brown eyes of a handsome stranger whose smile is startlingly familiar. It couldn’t really be her childhood sweetheart, Luke, could it?
Even though he moved half a world away nineteen years ago, as they bond over hot chocolate and tales of traumatic break-ups it’s clear time hasn’t changed Luke’s effortless charm. And when he saves Sarah from a wardrobe malfunction at a Christmas party, it’s not just the mulled wine warming her heart. But she can’t let herself fall in love again. Especially as Luke isn’t here to stay…
Then Ellie reveals she’s been keeping a BIG secret about Sarah’s ex. Reeling, Sarah longs to turn to Luke for comfort. But will that put her already fragile relationship with her daughter at risk, and chase Luke away even faster? Or will opening her heart mean Sarah gets her wish for a magical Christmas after all?
Grab a blanket and a mug of cocoa and curl up by the fire with this completely addictive festive romance. Fans of Cathy Bramley, Phillipa Ashley and Heidi Swain will love this charming, feel-good holiday read that proves you don’t need the perfect family to have a perfect Christmas!

What an uplifting, sweet and lovely book about love, family and second chances! Oh Yes, and Christmas! I loved the sense of friendship and cheer that was sprinkled with some angst and drama. The main characters are likeable and endearing. Who wouldn't want to take a winter stroll through the village with them? I know I would!
As the Christmas bells get ready to ring, Sarah Dunne is looking forward to a peaceful Christmas at home with her daughter. Sarah is divorced and loves working in a theater. One night she sees her childhood sweetheart, Luke, in the village. It has been nineteen years since they have seen each other, and Luke is as charming as ever. The downside - he’s in town for a short period of time. Plus, Ellie, Sarah's daughter has something up her sleeve which could spoil the Holiday cheer.
This was a charming book with some drama thrown in. I loved the journey these characters took and how their relationship bloomed naturally. Nothing felt rushed in this book. I loved how everything came together. I also loved the relationships, friendships, and sense of family.
This book warmed my heart and was a wonderful read to get one in the Holiday mood.
Heartwarming, charming and brimming with love.
P.S. This would also make a nice present for a book lover!

Happy tears! Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is a feel good novel about family, friends, and reconnecting with long lost relationships.
Sarah is a single mom that operates a vintage movie theater whose customer base has been dwindling over the last few years. Not one to be straddled with worry, Sarah plugs along, fingers crossed, in hopes that the theater will survive. She needs the income in order to raise her teenaged daughter, Ellie.
One day while waiting at the train station. Sarah catches a glimpse of a seemingly familiar face. A face that she hasn’t seen in over two decades. Can it be? Can it be Luke, her high school crush? Sarah was sixteen and Luke was nineteen, when Luke left for America. The thought that Luke was back in Liverpool seemed preposterous. But Sarah was hopeful, as sweet memories came back to her.
Then, as if Sarah’s dreams came true, Sarah bumps into Luke at the Library. And all of the lovely memories, feelings, and butterflies, came rushing back. Could it be fate that brought Luke back? And will Sarah now have the opportunity to find out if Luke really was “the one?”
Christmas at Red Robin Cottage was a joy to read with down to earth characters that made me laugh and cry. Sarah, the main protagonist is simple and pragmatic. While her daughter, Ellie, has all the telltale signs of a teen going through adolescent angst. Add in Sarah’s ex husband, Robbie and you have the makings of a soap-opera-like drama. It was fun… Luke doesn’t enter the picture until much later in the story. But that just added to the romantic suspense. A nice touch to keep a reader on their toes.
The plot was a little slow going at first. But once the rhythm is established it was smooth sailing from there. The narrative follows a second chance romance trope. But there’s also the family and friendship components which made for a wonderful, heartfelt read. It is the perfect novel to read while cuddled up with that cup of hot spiced tea, or that cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows. Five delightful stars.

Sarah is making plans for a special Christmas with her daughter Ellie when she meets her old childhood sweetheart, Luke, who is visiting from America, where he moved many years ago. After surviving a broken marriage, Sarah might be ready for love again. But Ellie has a surprise for her that might put a wrench in her plans.
This is a very slow-burn romance with a bit of Christmas. It was so slow to get into that I just never connected with it. I also did not feel transported to the Christmas season until possibly the very end of the book. In addition, it is written in present tense, which is not my favorite. It was short on plot and was not just not an overall great reading experience.
I received a free copy of this book via Bookouture. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own.
I am so ready for the festive season after reading this gorgeous novel! It will have you feeling all warm and cosy. The perfect book to curl up infront of the fire with along with a lovely mug of hot chocolate!
With Christmas around the corner, Sarah Dunne should have snowflakes and fairy lights on her mind, but this year things are feeling off. After divorcing her ex-husband, she’s helping her teen daughter, Ellie, navigate his absence during the festivities. And as a manager of a struggling local movie theater, she’s straining to bring in new clientele. Yet all of her problems seem to fade away in the moment she spots Luke, her high school crush who left for America nineteen years ago, while waiting in a train station.
Some romances come out blazing, with passion and drama so immediately evident they practically burn up the page. Author Sue Roberts takes a different approach while still building her own cozy fire.
Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is the very essence of a slow-burn. Roberts takes her time introducing Sarah and the world she inhabits. She shows her at work, contemplating the issues that come from an institution in need of new relevancy. There’s her home life, which is mostly positive, but comes with the challenge of raising a teenager while divorced. Then there are scenes of chatting with friends, basking in the oncoming holiday, and even simply enjoying the view of a red robin in her garden—an occasion that gives her home its nickname.
All of these scenes are deceptively simple. Roberts presents these slice-of-life vignettes in such a way that they almost appear random—Sarah’s seemingly only bouncing around, showing off both the wild and mild parts of her life. However, this results in a full portrait of a woman you then can’t help but want to see end up with a happy ending long before the romance starts heating up.
However, this is a romance, and when Luke finally does make an appearance on the train, Roberts has already provided the kindling that just needs a spark. Yet still, she takes her time. The logs are laid, so what’s the rush? They both bring their reservations and a hint of drama—moments that feel genuine and unforced. Ultimately it’s a testament to Roberts’s writing skills that she’s able to maintain a compelling story without the usual theatrical fireworks.
No, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage isn’t a red alarm fire, and that’s okay. It’s a carefully maintained one in a grand fireplace—a cozy one perfect for the Christmas season.

More than just a Christmas holiday romance, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is also all about love, loss, friendships, second chances and coming of age. Sarah Dunne, who works in a cinema is no longer with her husband and her daughter Ellie, 16yo, is morose about Christmas without her dad so Sarah is out and about in Little Newdale in northern England with her. Ellie and Sarah are strolling around the festive village filled with twinkling lights, snow and holiday shoppers, when Sarah bumps into her teenage crush, Luke and they reconnect. A sweet, uplifting and lovely read with some gorgeous descriptions.

Another lovely book by Sue Roberts!!! I am so happy I read it! THere is quite a lot going in on in this book and you won't be bored! It's actually a page-turner! However this story is taking place around chritmas time, this book can be read anytime! It's all about village friendship, relationship with your teenager that can be a bit stressful sometimes and of course romance!!! 4 stars out of 5 for me!
This is the perfect holiday escape book. The kind you grab with a cup of hot chocolate, a soft blanket and cuddle up with no place to go and just settle in for a few hours and enjoy your time in the story. And that’s exactly what I did. It takes place in Little Newdale, where Sarah lives in Red Robin Cottage with her sixteen year old daughter. She’s been divorced for two years now and has found her footing, but it hasn’t been easy in her daughter. However, Sarah has great friends and loves her kid running the local cinema despite the decline in numbers as more and more people go into the bigger cities to the more updated ones. Sarah is tasked with figuring out how to increase revenue. While doing so, she runs into her former crush, Luke, and sparks fly once again. As they rekindle their friendship it starts to turn into something more, but Sarah is protective of her heart after her divorce. Will Luke be able to get her to let him in? Can Sarah and her staff keep the cinema open? I adored this book and it was nice to see a story involving characters over 30 for a change too :) Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
4.5 stars this was a wonderful magical Christmas read Sarah had a beest friend called kay who had a brother called Luke Sarah and kay were very close.luke became Sarah's first teenage crush.Kay and luke moved to America.leaving Sarah wondering and thinking about them.kay carried on doing her dream of theatre.one day Sarah goes out with her friend cassie and thinks she sees her childhood crush luke only she thinks she's imagining it.i really enjoyed this lovely story the ending was brilliant .it was so well written the characters were loveable.
I should have used my DNF card on this one. I am so optimistic that I believe every book has something to say. This one was just a time waster. If you care to know what everyone is wearing and eating and hear them say “if I’m being honest “ repeatedly, it might be for you. It was slow, trite and boring. Seems it took about 50 pages just to get to a plot, which was shallow at best. So, if you want light reading, with no conflict or fire, it just might be for you.
I had such a good time reading this book! It WA so interesting learning new things about England and some cultural differences in the celebration of Christmas. I enjoyed the well developed characters and the plot was very entertaining.
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Sarah a single mom with teenage daughter Ellie live in Red Robin Cottage in Little Newdale following her divorce. She is struggling to make ends meet and needs to come up with ideas to save her job at the villages little cinema. One day she bumps into her childhood sweetheart Luke after also a decade since they last saw each other.
Their friendship rekindles and begins to turn into something more. Can Sarah put her past behind her a let Luke in or will they stay as friends.
A perfect, sweet book to get you in the mood for Christmas! Perfect read for a snowy afternoon, snuggled in a comfy chair, sipping a hot chocolate (preferably topped with squirt cream! ). Delightful.
This is such a joyful read. The characters are highly likeable and relatable. The setting of the small town of Little Newdale is perfect for a holiday read and I loved the sense of community. The romance to me was simply icing on the cake.
Sarah is a single mother with a teenage daughter Ellie trying to make ends meet the best she can since her divorce. She works in a movie theatre that has been experiencing a dwindling business thanks to the new theatre in the town. Despite this, she’s determined to make a wonderful Christmas for her and her daughter.
When her childhood sweetheart arrives back in town she almost can’t believe it. It’s been more than a decade since she last saw Luke. Rekindling a friendship begins to turn into something a little more. But Sarah is guarded – for completely legitimate reasons.
I enjoy reading about women who are supported by other women and this is a great example. Who doesn’t need a group of friends to help us get by in our day-to-day lives? I also appreciated the relationship between Sarah and Ellie – a little reminiscent of Lorelai and Rory for Gilmore Girls fans.
Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is the perfect read for those that want a lovely holiday story wrapped in romance. Those of you over 30 will appreciate it even more.

I really enjoyed my time reading Christmas at Red Robin Cottage. It was a charming, fun Christmas read filled with family, friends, and romance. As Christmas is getting closer, Sarah and her daughter Ellie prepare for the holiday in Liverpool. Sarah is divorced from Robbie and Ellie would love nothing more than them to get back together. Sarah has fond memories of her childhood crush, Luke, who was her best friend's brother. The entire family moved to America when Sarah was a teenager. Sarah missed Kay terribly and of course, Luke. As she's thinking of these memories while waiting on a train, Sarah swears she sees Luke on the opposite train. They lock eyes and he smiles at her. Could it be?
One night Sarah is in town at the historic library to meet up with her friend who works there. As she's coming down the steps to meet her friend, a man is standing there. As she gets to the bottom of the stairs Sarah sees that it's Luke!! They chat a bit and she finds out he's in town to sell his uncle's house and settle his estate. Sarah is thrilled that Luke's going to be in town a bit. They exchange numbers and the fun begins! Will Sarah and Luke hit it off? Will Luke be going back to Florida soon? Should Sarah risk getting involved with Luke knowing that he will be leaving soon? She really likes Luke.
This book is like a warm hug. You will love your time with these characters, this village, and this story. I highly recommend reading it, especially as the holidays approach. I rated this book 4.5 stars. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review. #ChristmasRedRobinCottage #NetGalley

I just reviewed Christmas at Red Robin Cottage by Sue Roberts. #ChristmasatRedRobinCottage #NetGalley
Sarah Dunne’s marriage just imploded and she wants a quiet and uneventful holiday season. She is ready for peace and quiet and nothing but Christmas carols and holiday treats. But Ellie, Sarah’s daughter, is depressed by the thought of spending Christmas without her father. While Ellie and Sarah are in the festive village filled with twinkling lights, snow and holiday shoppers, Sarah runs into Luke. They were childhood sweethearts and the meet-cute was completely unexpected. Luke and Sarah bond over hot cocoa while telling stories about their lives over the past few years. Sarah isn’t ready to fall in love again, it’s too soon to give her heart away…or is it exactly what she needs to do?
I really enjoyed this little cozy Christmas story. It warmed my heart and the characters were very likeable. This amazing, cute Christmas story that has all the feels. This was such a great heart-warming read with exceptional and vivid descriptions of the village. Red Robin Cottage sounds like a lovely place to spend the holidays. I am ready to begin the holiday season and start hanging up lights. This story completely got me into the Christmas spirit. I was completely captivated by the storyline. I really enjoyed this wonderfully written gorgeous heart warming story of family, friends and second chances. This festive book is a must read story and I highly recommend it.
Thank you Sue Robert for such a wonderful, fun filled and enjoyable read. This wonderful escape to a winter wonderland is exactly what I needed.
There are some stories that grab you from page one.... and there are others that take awhile longer. Christmas at Red Robin Cottage was certainly more the latter. Typically in a romance, we are introduced to the hero and heroine very early in the story, so you really get invested in the love story early on. That was not the case here, with Sarah not meeting (or rather reuniting) with Luke until about halfway through the book. Honestly, I had almost given up on this one... but once the romance was introduced, I felt like things moved along much more smoothly and became much more interesting to me. I do wonder if perhaps this being a British book, that might have played a part in the disconnect as well as some phrasing is a bit different and all, but I really do feel it had more to do with that slow start to the romance.
This would be considered a clean read overall. There were- I believe- just a few (less than 5) swear words throughout, and some innuendos, but nothing graphic by any means.
Despite my initial hesitation, I actually did find that I enjoyed it by the end of it. I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars, but it might have been higher had I been able to connect to the story earlier on. If you enjoy a cute holiday romance, this is one that might be up your alley.

My Opinion
A lovely festive hug in a book. An uplifting book about friendships, family and second chances. There is quite a lot going on in this book to hold the readers attention. A lovely holiday escape to read curled up with a nice festive drink.
The festive looking cover of "Christmas at Red Robin Cottage" drew me to this book and I wasn't disappointed by the content. The book made me want to step straight into Christmas. Sue Roberts, the author, has a very descriptive style of writing that sets the Christmas theme perfectly. I couldn't get enough of this book, it was right up my street!
Set in a village in the Liverpool area, Sarah Dunn works in an old fashioned cinema and loves her job. Sarah is a single Mum to sixteen year old Ellie and is divorced to Robbie, Ellies Dad.
Sarah lives in her beatiful old cottage and loves everything about the pretty building. Life is perfect, she has her job and great friends, but there is the lack of a life partner. Sarah reflects on her past, especially the teenage years spent doing am-dram with her best friend Kay, who just happens to have an older brother called Luke, that Sarah had her first crush on.
Fond memories of her crush for Luke, means that Sarah isn't sure if she spots him in a window seat of a train going in the opposite direction or if she has imagined it. A visit to the city library reveals a surprise for Sarah, was it Luke she saw?
This was such a lovely hug of a book, full of Christmas cheer. Christmas markets, mulled wine, hot chocolate, mince pies and a bit of snow thrown in for good measure, oh and of course a few Christmas films!
Like Sarah I absolutely love The Holiday so could just imagine what the outside of Red Robin Cottage would look like. One day I’d love to have a real fire but for now I can just picture myself sat in front of one by reading books like this.
I read this in one day and found myself reaching for my kindle at every moment to read a few more chapters. I just needed to know what was happening and how things were going for Sarah and Ellie. Talking of which, they have such a lovely relationship even if it isn’t always plain sailing and I was slightly jealous of their pancakes!
This has also got a bit of romance in it and I loved Luke, there was a stage where I wondered if everything was too good to be true, but the ending was so lovely and warmed my heart.
Sue’s writing has such a good flow to it and I’m amazed that this is the first book of hers I’ve read because it definitely won’t be the last! I need more! 🙊
I can’t remember the last time that a book made me cry, but towards the end of this one there were definitely tears in my eyes, although I’m telling myself they were hormonal!
Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is all about friends, family, lost loves and second chances, it’s warm, cosy and happy. I loved Sarah and Ellie and how they came together to work out, that usually it’s best not to have Mum and daughter secrets. I was hooked on Luke and Sarah’s story and the house on Adelaide Terrace reminded me of the pastel Painted Ladies houses that I’ve seen in San Francisco.
I’ve read a couple of other books by Sue Roberts and she never fails to make me smile, her characters are always loveable and her writing so vivd and descriptive. Reading this makes we want to wander through a snowy winter village with Sarah and then settle by the fire with a hot chocolate and I really, really want to try that orange shortbread. I’m off to find myself a recipe.
I am lucky enough to be a part of Books on Tour for this book , so thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Christmas at Red Robin Cottage by Sue Roberts.
Divorce doesn't just affect the spouses it affects the children as well. Sarah Dunne knows Christmas will be different this year without her ex-husband, but she tries to keep it merry and bright for her teenaged daughter Ellie. With twinkling lights, warm blankets and hot cocoa, snow softly falling and winter activities they try to make the best of the holiday season. Ellie is going for it, a little but really misses her dad and seems to harbor the secret thought they can become a family again. While out enjoying the festivities Sarah sees someone she hasn't seen in a while, can it be, possibly? When it turns out to be a former flame, she is so surprised, and they seem to hit it off again. With Ellie keeping a big secret is there a possibility this romance can have a little Christmas magic happen or will a big misunderstand melt it away like the sun during a spring thaw? Once again, another lovely and fun holiday book by a great author. I was laughing out loud reading and loved the characters.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Christmas is coming but no geese are getting fat Instead Sarah Dunne is not in the mood for any of that! Her sweet sixteen daughter is also feeling blue How to cheer them both up, Sarah hasn't got a clue!
With secrets that have been kept concealed Being accidentally revealed, Then glimpsing a sight of someone she used to know - Her teen crush who left for the US many years ago.
This is a very different story, showing the importance of friends, And how being honest can help just how the story ends. With jobs in peril, new ideas are needed now, To help keep them employed and busy somehow.
Working together, sharing ideas, Helping one another sort out their fears. Add in a second chance romance or two And a fun festive read is here for you.
With relationships rekindled and new ones started, too, Along with family drama, misunderstandings and things to do. For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you, It is a lovely festive read and this is my honest review.
