Lux is finishing his Aeronautical Engineering degree at Georgia Tech. His father begins to support him again but he is starting to get noticed a little too widely outside his peers. He has to hire a 7 X 24 security team. The Israeli intelligence operatives, alerted by Professor Helmann are the first to arrive. SpaceX becomes interested when Lux tries to obtain spacesuits suitable for extravehicular activity in vacuum. Lux starts flying frequently and upgrades SpaceX rocket shells with 'Blakely' thrusters. Chinese operatives attempt to obtain the tech by any means and won't stop. The DeepFake video personality, Lummi, has reached 'popstar' status and is pressured to give live international concerts of her music. The DeepFake videos produced by his A.I., Anna, continue to improve and produce income to fund his research. Lux applies to M.I.T. for a Ph.D. in their AeroAstro to investigate the strange field effects from his discovery. The mystery of the 'effect' is beginning to unravel.
Ken R Pence, Ph.D. is a professor of engineering at Vanderbilt University. He is a retired captain from the Metro Nashville Police Department where he served 31 years (16 on SWAT) and has taught police and military in the US and Europe (England, Germany, France, and Northern Ireland) in confrontation management skills. He has researched sniper shot location for DARPA, acoustic sensors to protect African elephant herds and inexpensive magnetic levitation. He lives in Nashville with his wife and his large - drooling - black lab (Drools Verne).
Boy, what an emotional roller coaster ride. If you read the first two books in this series, you will be invested in the characters that are so well written. So is there relationships go up and down, you go with them. Can’t wait to read book 4. (again.)
I pre-read sci-fi for many authors helping them towards really understanding the fine line of fantasy and sci fi. A friend referred the Lux series to me. I was shy on paid reads and thought what the he I inwill.give it a try. I put down my red highlighter and just read for fun. What a fun read! I view Lux as a character as a cross between Fox Mulder and Young Sheldon, he is fun, young vibrant. As with many gifted youth they are slow to out mature out of the "why" phase" of growth and development....using "why and curious and observing" to push the envelope. Ken Pence has caught the youthfulness, naivety, and sheltered world of the 'gifted' student well. Fun characters interesting Stories. Ken Pence shows his real world breadth of knowledge, skill and education in his writing (at times you see tech writer bleeding n through over the story writer seen in fiction.). I enjoy his hyperlinks in the text, and want to see where he takes Lux next.
Lux is up to his old tricks and creating new technologies right and left! Lux continues to study his existing super tech to try and understand how it actually does the amazing things that it does. This research, in turn, allows him to create even more super tech, this time with gravity instead of magnetics. Which is a good thing for a magnetic powered spaceship stranded out in deep space outside any magnetic fields. Can Lux finish building his new super tech quickly enough to save the marooned magnetic ships crew?! And, one stranded crew member has died already! Read this book now, you’ll be sooo glad that you did! The Lux series is currently my absolute favorite Sci-Fi series. I can hardly wait to be able to read the next one!!! Keep up the great work, author Ken Pence, ‘cause now you have me hooked!!!! :)
These books have been amazing. They are written in a strange way that takes some getting used to. Where a normal book flows somewhat smothly from one "scene" or "topic", this is written almost as if you are reading journal entries or perhaps someone's diary. What I liked the most was the science. It's real - or soon could be. I truly wish that all of our scientists , military, and government officials were as humanitarian and honest. I also hope that if this technology is developed (or we already have it) it is not used exclusively for those in power to just get more.
This book has a lot of issues, and I almost didn’t finish it. The take on the US glove is expressed incorrectly, there is no way to do 99% of the stuff lux does not the science the skipping of bureaucracy. Also it’s to much to think of a sexually active 11 or 12 year old. The characters should be at least 18 in my opinion. The constant he made his own money and TS/SCI statement annoyed me.
I feel like I am binge reading these as a finish a book quickly, spending a majority of my spare time reading them. I am starting to worry about Anna in this series, “she” is too powerful. This is another great read, with great emotions being passed through to the reader. The technology mostly sounds plausible in what I would call a “near/alternate science future”. China is mainly used as the “International Bad Guys” in this story.
This is my second time reading this series. And at this point, the same as the 1st time I read the series, I'm losing interest. Everything collapses when Lux loses his honor to his word. His integrity is a foundation of the story. His word regardless of any reason or motive to the contrary is his word. If he betrays it he becomes dishonest. Just another justified — 'sell-out'.
I am not sure I agree with the age recommendations for the series. The hard science is a little intense. But then I am a Liberal Arts graduate. The emotional relationships do seem to follow the character's ages well. Genius does not always mean maturity immediately. They remind me of the Ell Donsaii series by Danhers. Will look forward for the rest
It's interesting how what you perceive of the world really affected by your body. Lux grown into a tall boy really helps him being accepted by the adults around him. Well, at least long enough so they can consider his achievements. Btw, why is this episode is not on Kindle Unlimited? Seems strange to put half of series on KU while leaving the rest out.
I really enjoy this series and all that is Lux. The only thing that I do not like is Prissy and how she treats him. I don't know it just seems that if he was to end up with someone it should be someone that would never judge him, that can contribute to his ideas, and is not all over the place emotionally.
This is an enchanting series full of excitement and fun. What a mind Pence has! I am hooked from the beginning and am sad when I am at the end. I preordered boos 4 and 5 and will stay up nights d waiting for him to release them. I love sci-fi, and this is the best! It’s like reading my biography! I wish…
Each new book just adds to the Lux legend…Now it is to the stars…?Earth needs to unite under Lex…what will happen to our favorite AI? Will she start using meat puppet missiles if someone crosses her favorite biological buddy. I can hardly wait for the next chapter in Luxs universe.
If you like b grade action movie this might be worth your time. A little to much. Oh a problem, well I just immediately have the solution. Even the problem happen to quickly. But it entertaining.
Another great book by Ken Pence! The characters are really complete, the story good and technology believable in à not to far possibility. I really hope to read the next books soon!
This story of a young genius that figures out how the Earth magnetic field works was Fantastic. He makes several inventions that the world governments must have by attempting to kidnap him. Fantastic Series
Outstanding!!! Love these kinds of stories, especially when the author seems to have some personal experience to combine with the tale... definitely will be watching his one's future endeavors!
Story continues from previous book. New discovery and use in a rescue. Still suffers from self editing and gaps. Occasionally repeats things already said. Looking forward to next book in 2023
I fell in love with this character! Unbelievably smart compassionate and humble. His inventions are described in such a detailed way that I wonder if this Science exists! Fun adventures. Hope he has plenty more!
Loving these books mixing real-world physics with fantasy and a bit of a love story, a what would you do if young and had developed an earth-shattering new bit of tech. I can not wait for lux continued adventures, and does he get the girl in the end who knows?.
I just love these books the idea and story is fun and keeps me coming back for more every time. New tech space and the nasty governments what more do you need fun stories
I have read others by Ken Pence and have been good to heart for me. This series has me hooked . It total outrageous sci-fi which means thinking and enjoyment. Now to wait for #4.
Five stars. Fun read and a bit of knowledge that went a long way. Nice addition to the Tom Swift type of storyline of young adults doing thing to help the world.
Sorry but I didn't like this one. The first two were good but I didn't like the interpersonal relationships in this one. Yes, he's still a kid but he's smart. Unless you're making him make mistakes on purpose for the storyline. Not my cup of tea.
I absolutely love this series and have lost quite a bit of sleep since I started the series 49 hours ago. Just finished book 3. Cannot wait to get to the next one in the series. MUST read and so real and heartfelt. Well done and my thanks for been an author.
Drop the militarism, and this is a four star book.
The 10-year-old becomes 14 and built, a starship and Vince, a knife, that cuts anything and gets kissed for all based on the implications of quantum tally and AI
