Jenna Snyder has finally gotten her life back together. She’s left her shattered heart behind and is quite content being the caretaker to a flirtatious geriatric man. In between his daily marriage proposals and in-home nurse visits, she manages to relax and ease her mind at her potter’s wheel. The only thing holding her back from finding true happiness are the painful memories from her past that can never be erased. She wants to leave them behind, and that includes Tristan. It doesn’t matter that he’s smart and successful and sexy. Or that he’s the sweetest man she’s ever met. He destroyed her world and tore her heart into a million pieces and that can never be forgiven. Tristan Ketch never thought his catering business would have him pairing his food with a small town winery in Crystal Cove, Maine. Or that he’d run into the woman he once loved. Hell, the woman he still loves. He regrets the way they ended, and he’ll do anything to make things right with her now. But first he needs to regain her trust, and that means doing everything in his power to make sure she never discovers the truth...the real reason behind what ripped them apart.
Marianne Rice writes small town contemporary romance and women's fiction. Her heroes are big and strong, yet value family and humor, while her heroines are smart, sexy, sometimes a little bit sassy, and are often battling a strong internal conflict. Together, they deal with real life issues and always find everlasting love.
When she’s not writing, Marianne spends her time drooling over shoes, eating chocolate, attending her children's sporting events, and when there’s time, relaxing with fancy drinks and romance books.
This one is for my friend Ana 'cause she wanted an honest review…..
SPOILERS!
Zero & heroine were married & in love 8 yrs prior. They were 20 when they got married but Zero was said to have crashed his car into heroine’s (his then wife) who was pregnant and their baby died. Heroine couldn’t forgive him & asked for divorce (only it turns out that she was the one who ran a red light and caused the accident but he never told her that). So the loser took his tail and ran..and ran and ran ----- all the way to divorce court and on to OW.
He married this OW whose father owned a restaurant & they were happy until his father-in-law (who was his boss & mentor) died and Hero took the loss hard and ran & ran …to divorce court yet again! Heroine, who?
“For years he hadn’t let anything Jenna interfere with his moods or his life”. Nice.
“A friendship was more than he ever expected to have again with her, and he wouldn’t risk the potential of one by being jealous that she’d moved on. After all, he’d moved on too. He had a marriage and divorce certificate to prove it”. Oye!
“No woman could ever replace Jenna, and no child could replace the one they’d lost. So Beth not wanting the same things he and Jenna dreamed about was perfect. She wasn’t a replacement for Jenna. Nor were any of the other women he saw before and after his relationship with Beth. Moving on had never been his intention. Neither had starting over”. So let's take that in for a moment...... The OW wasn't a replacement for heroine. Hmm... good to know.. Thanks.
Flash-forward, it’s now 7 ½ yrs later since heroine & Zero saw each other and he comes to the town where heroine is at and the rest is same ‘o, same ‘o. Nothing interesting here. Zero came across as a pathetic wimp & loser. He moaned on and on about his two failed relationships, his job, his life, how a lot of things were “sort of” his fault, etc. and nothing happened between him & heroine for more then half of the story (I think around 60-70% or so when they actually had face to face contact & a conversation of sorts – never mind kissing & things….
And the angst/resolution? Hero's Mother was in the other car and got hurt and she uses this as guilt to keep Zero stuck to her patootie. She hates heroine. Zero lied to heroine and made her think all thru the yrs that the accident was his fault but in a sense it was because while his pregnant wife was in labor, he was busy chauffeuring his mother back & forth! So we have a mommy's boy here folks who is still stuck on her apron strings.🙄🥵
The truth finally is revealed towards the end and of course you have HEA. Not!
PS: This was a quick skim & DNF😊 If anyone cares, it's safe. No OW/OM drama. No Sex with OP. Heroine is dating OM but it's a platonic relationship & she has been frozen all these yrs but Hero has not. He said he had other relationships post divorce from first wife (Heroine) & the other ex.
Enjoy this very warm & moving, not to mention epic love story folks!
The same old story as usual. They are married, a tragedy strikes, he goes on to even remarry as she spends her years wailing.
After 7 years without him ever looking for her again he has the audacity to be hurt because she did not speak about him to her friends when he claims to block his past and is still jealous when another man she would have a date with was mentioned. Some pearls that describe the context very well:
"Marrying Beth had seemed the right thing to do at the time. They’d been dating for over a year and both had a vested interest in the restaurant. "
"Since they worked the same schedule and were attracted to each other, dating and then marrying had seemed like the logical thing to do. Tristan didn’t begrudge Beth or the restaurant. They’d both played a part in turning his life around, in making his dream a reality."
"Jenna had gone out on a few dates since divorcing Tristan, but never anything serious. She’d wanted a distraction but never put her heart or mind into dating."
"The unsettling in his stomach wasn’t from the lack of dinner or the earlier conversation with his mother. For years he hadn’t let anything Jenna interfere with his moods or his life."
"She never thought of Tristan as a romantic. He was always just ... Tristan. He was her first boyfriend, so she never had anyone to compare him to. After a handful of pitiful dates, she learned what she had with him was not normal."
“But I do. I know I hurt your feelings today, and Tristan made it sound like my staying at his house was more than... Than what? Because it was more than. It was so much more than. They’d reconnected, and the bitterness she’d been harboring for so long had vanished too easily. Maybe it was the alcohol, or her emotional state knowing Jerry didn’t have much longer to live."
"Almost eight years since she lost her daughter, and nearly seven since she kicked Tristen out of her life. Two traumatic loses she would never fully recover from."
"Beth never wanted children. At first Tristan had thought about trying to convince her otherwise, but then realized that made her even more perfect for him. "
"She wasn’t a replacement for Jenna. Nor were any of the other women he saw before and after his relationship with Beth."
“I don’t want to see Jenna screwed over. Why now? He went what, seven years without trying to contact her? If they hadn’t run into each other, would he still be interested? Or does he want one last time with her before he moves on? He was married to his business partner for two years. The ink on the divorce papers has barely dried.”
So for the thousandth time I ask myself: Why ????? Why is it so hard for these authors to write female characters that can handle their problems ?! Write about women who are like the thousands and thousands of women today who are strong, who move on with their lives, who have gone through great tragedies but don't spend their days whining about it ?! Why in the novels are always the women who are the suffering martyrs, who suffer for men while they "are very good, thank you" rebuilding their lives and going after their dreams ?! Why do these authors keep insisting on pathetic female characters? And I'm the problem ?? Is there a way to write positive reviews when I have to come across this garbage again and again?
This second chance/reunion romance from Marianne Rice is another winner in the Well Paired series that takes place in Maine. Love this town and the people in it. So much goodness and amazing friendships. But take out your hankies cause this book has more than a few deep feels! It's a little slow to start, with the main characters not being on the same page much for a while, but still thinking of the other. But once it really gets started, it is SOOO good! Hoping we'll get at least another story and finally see Mia find the man of her dreams!
God! This heroine was the ultimate - and by that I mean I wanted to slap the nonsense out of her and drag her by her stupid braided hair to a good shrink. Jfc, was she odious. Self-absorbed, self-pitying, selfish, me-me-me, whingey-arse b*tch. I really can't stand heroines who constantly compare themselves to others and find themselves wanting, but then deny feeling jealous or envious. At one point, the h was looking at her friend and admiring the friend's long blonde hair, straight white teeth, long nails and sexy body. While the h herself whines in her internal dialogue about her own baggy, unfashionable clothing (her own choice) and about her muffin top (stop eating all the sweets and pastries, then) and that she will never have those things her friend has. What, she can't lighten or style her hair? Grow her nails? Get a manicure? Are her teeth crooked? Or yellow? A few ideas, honey - Invisalign and Crest. White. Strips.
But no, she won't actually DO anything to feel better about herself. And she's apparently one of those who is actually beautiful but doesn't see it 🙄. And this might be a shock to some, but it's actually rude as hell to brush off compliments from others, which she does. All her pissing and moaning about how she's so 'ordinary' and 'plain' got tired quickly and so did her defensive attitude towards others. She denied feeling jealous or envious of friends she felt were so attractive, but her thoughts proved she was a little green-eyed monster.
Note to writers - self-absorbed characters who bang on about their perceived inferiority are not sympathetic.
Believe it or not, my biggest problem with the heroine, Jenna, wasn't that she was always comparing herself to others and finding herself lacking. No, it was what she did to Tristan.
Stop here if you don't want a major spoiler.
**********
Jenna and Tristan were once married. And from the time he appeared in the story there was a foreshadowing that there was a big 'something' that split them apart. And of course, he's obviously the devil incarnate and the assumption is that HE had to have done something abominable to poor, meek Jenna. 😑 And I mean, he got married again - briefly - so he HAD to be a right twat, yeah?
No. So much no.
This couple had suffered the worst tragedy eight years before when their unborn child was killed in a car crash. That is unspeakably awful. It's heartbreaking. But Jenna's victim mentality and nasty treatment of Tristan - who was a genuinely good guy - made no sense, until we learn that he apparently caused the accident. Her reaction was to turn on him and viciously push him out of her life and divorce him. She treated the guy like garbage. He should have hated her guts but he didn't. We kept reading how 'selfless' she was, when in reality Jenna is one of the more selfish characters I've encountered. The baby was his, too. He lost his child, too. Then he had to lose his wife as well. It was a terrible, tragic accident. He wasn't allowed to grieve. It was all about HER and everyone just let her wallow and self destruct. And everyone treated Tristan like he was some dodgy creep because even if they didn't actually know the facts OF COURSE it had to be all on him.
Truth was, SHE was at fault. He let her believe otherwise to protect her. Misguided, yes - but done out of his love and devotion. She didn't deserve him.
Yeah, he got married again. Why shouldn't he have done? He fought his ass off for her. She, in turn, called him a 'baby killer' and told him hated him and she'd never forgive him. SHE divorced him. Too bad his 2nd marriage was for business purposes and publicity. I wish it had worked out for him. I see nothing but trouble down the road for this couple. Almost a decade later, Jenna was still far too hung up on the loss of a child she'd never met, and she seemed determined to hate herself.
And in the immortal words of that grand drag queen RuPaul, 'Honey, how you gonna love someone if you don't love yourself?'
P. S. A hysterectomy is not the same as having your tubes tied. So which was it? A tubal ligation or a hysterectomy?? Proper research and continuity are not optional choices.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
She manages to combine a scrumptious story with enough sweetness and romance you’ll be left wondering if men like Tristan really exist.
Mainly though, this story for me was about heart break for Jenna. She’d been through something horrific and was somehow still standing. That in itself was a miracle. Then to have the courage to try to love again, that takes balls of steel. But when it was the man who she believed destroyed her world the first time, to give him a second chance, she deserves more than a bottle of wine and and happily ever after... she deserves the life she wants.
A hauntingly beautiful story with everything I’ve come to expect from a Rice book.
Completely and immediately immersed in this story!!!
Marianne Rice weaves an incredible story that keeps you absolutely hooked. She paints such a vivid picture, it leaves you captured. You can’t stop. Page after page, with no break.
Your heart is so open and invested in these characters. You feel it all, and so many feelings, you will have!!
I’m fairly new to the amazing Marianne Rice, but I am quickly becoming one of her biggest fans. Completely devouring everything she has written. And never being disappointed.
In Marianne Rice's "Finding Our Way Back (A Well Paired Novel Book 5)" we read about Jenna Snyder, who has her life in order as she is taking care of an elderly gentleman. Things are finally starting to go her way until her past, in the form of her ex Tristan Ketch, comes back into her life. If you've never read any of the books in this series that takes place in Crystal Cove, Maine I highly recommend the series. This particular book can be a read alone, but the in-depth characters have a background in Books 1-4. Loved this story.
I am a lover of second chance romance.....Finding Our Way Back hit the genre perfectly!!
For Jenna and Tristan, life hadn’t been all that fair or perfect for them. One tragedy and they were destroyed. I loved the flow of the story and their reconnection. I also felt invested with all the supporting characters as well.
I took a chance on Ms. Rice; you see, she is a new author to me and I plan on reading more from her.
I really enjoyed this story line in this book, it was gritty and emotional. Jenna and Tristan suffered a tragedy in their life but I loved the twist in it as I was not expecting that. The author has written superbly and I could not put this book down, looking forward to reading more from her. I voluntarily read and reviewed a advanced copy arc.
Wow I loved Tristan and Jenna's love story. So many heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. This story brought me to tears several times such a great read. I loved the main characters but also loved the friends. So much love.
This has been a day for reading books that really tug at the heartstrings. The author has created a slow burn, sweet, and sad second chance at romance that definitely delivers on all the feels. The hero and heroine had been married before when they were in their early twenties, and their marriage couldn't survive a personal tragedy. They are changed people when they happen to meet again seven years later. He has never stopped loving her, despite another intervening failed marriage, and she is not sure she is willing to forgive the part that he played in their tragedy. The characters in this book are fantastic, and not just the hero and heroine. I loved the heroine’s circle of friends; each woman was unique and able to provide the support the heroine needed. I also absolutely adored the heroine’s relationship with the elderly man that she was taking care of. Their relationship showed her kind nature and generous heart. I thought that the author did a particularly good job with dialogue. It seems realistic in terms of the word themselves and how they reflected the relationships of the people involved in the conversations. Exceptionally well done; a beautiful story with incredible characters.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
"We can't live our lives with regrets and what-ifs. We can only live in the now and use those experiences to help us make better choices in the future."
Finding Our Way Back is a beautiful and emotional second chance story full of hope, healing, friendship and love.
Jenna has made a beautiful life in Crystal Cove with great friends, a wonderful job, and far away from her past. When her past comes walking through the door seven years later, the air is sucked from her and her world stops. Will she have what it takes to forgive and finally move on?
To say I loved this book would be an unsterstament. Marianne Rice has created a beautiful town with relatable characters who are sure to take you on a emotional journey with them. This book captivated my attention I found the pages flew before my eyes. I highly recommend reading this series.
Please note books can be read as a stand alone, but I find it more enjoyable to read in order so you can truly understand all of the wonderful characters.
First off this cover is SO BEAUTIFUL! In my opinion it starts this story off right.
Ok the story... I love this series and all the characters. It made my heart happy delving back into the well paired world. A book club, winery, sweet girl posse, and east coast town lays a wonderful foundation to this series.
I knew from reading the others that Jenna, our heroine of this book had some mystery and sadness surrounding her. The brilliance of this author is you just have to keep reading to find out what has happened. Eek.
Tristan our hero is new this series so it takes a bit to see his true character. Let me say I fall in love with him. He truly has to make tough decisions to honor his true love and the heartbreak they experienced.
If you are looking for a sweet contemporary romance, then I would say check this one out. Truthfully you should read the entire series but that isn’t required to follow this story.
This is a great 2nd chance romance in the wonderful Well Paired series. Jenna & Tristan married when they were young and after suffering a tragedy they divorced & moved on. When Tristan is hired to cater at the winery Jenna's friends own for a food & wine pairing event Jenna is taken off guard. She wasn't expecting to see Tristan at all, after all the years they spent apart. I liked how much Tristan worked to regain her trust, how he helped her with a loss in her life. This is such a heart wrenching, emotional read.
A definite must-read. Jenna Snyder and Tristan Ketch story was so intense at times and so very engaging. It had truly outstanding characters and with such emotion that it will sweep you away. For me, this one is definitely a must-read book and a great one to pull out a re-read again and again. I have enjoyed the whole series and this book is a wonderful addition. If you are looking for a book with both heartbreaking and heartwarming moments this is the one you should pick up! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I recommend having tissues and a glass of wine handy while reading this heartaching romance. Jenna and Tristan's story unfolds at a slow burning pace, so you must be prepared for that. Trust me, it will be worth it once all the details and secrets are revealed and you finally have a clear picture of what stands between this couple and a HEA in this beautiful second chance romance. Of my own accord I am posting a truthful review.
The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.
The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
Jenna and Tristan have a past which was separated due to a tragic event. Now Tristan is back will they have a 2nd chance? No spoilers; this is a must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is heartbreaking, heart-warming, emotional, gritty, and with unexpected twists and love. I highly recommend this gifted authors’ work for all.
What a great emotional story with some twist I did not see coming. This author writes such good characters you will be hooked on them from the start. This is my first book by this author but looking forward to reading more from her.
This is Jenna and Tristan's story. This is really nice story about second chance love. I really enjoyed how it was written and how the story developed. The little twist at the end was lovely. It's a really lovely read
She is finally finding her place after a rough time. She finds peace in doing her pottery while looking after an elderly gentleman and she is in for a shock when a face from the past reappears. He is shocked to see her again and he still loves her but he needs to keep hidden the truth of why he left. Will she give him the time of day? Will she allow him close again? What if she finds out his secret? See if she finds out
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jenna and Tristan married out of high school. A car accident took the life of their daughter Anna. 8 years later they 're-connect and you have to read this book to find out if they have a happily ever after again!
FINDING OUR WAY BACK is the fifth title in Marianne Rice’s Well Paired series. It is a heartwrenching story of loss, unsuccessfully trying to move on from a tragedy that no one should ever have to face, and eventual understanding, forgiveness, even a second chance to get it right. It will gut you, and put you back together again.
And, because life happened for me and I was unable to get all the stories read before this newest release I can quite frankly say that you could read Jenna and Tristan’s story as a standalone. Because I was able to flow right back into this world without trouble. I will be catching up on the parts of this series that I haven’t yet read because I want to know what happened not because I feel I have to in order to “get” Jenna and Tristain’s relationship. I’ve enjoyed this world and want to understand the other stories, the other people that I haven’t met properly just yet.
Without giving away spoilers I can say that every situation has at least two sides, sometimes more, and without knowing everything our choices are often different without all that we need to know. Jenna has a circle of friends now, a new focus in caring for an endearing older man who is facing the final stage of his life, and suddenly the man who she once loved with everything she had to give, and the man who brought her such unbearable pain is in town and back in her life. I found Jenna’s reactions as realistic for what she and Tristan have gone through together and separately. There are moments when the sadness will break your heart, and others when hope for a different future soar. So, perhaps the gambit of emotions is the best way to describe FINDING OUR WAY BACK.
This is an emotional story, one that I would not hesitate to recommend to any Romance reader who enjoys stories where a couple is not picture-perfect but human in every way. One that will touch your heart, and maybe make you think a bit.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Finding Our Way Back – I found this book interesting and filled with good, interesting storylines and wonderful characters. There was no stupidity formula, too common nowadays, but plenty of drama. This is story is heartwarming and heartbreaking with emotions running the gamut and plenty of loving supportive friends and families. While this is a standalone, I was confused with Priscilla and her colors. I found this book on Booksprout. 4*
Marshmallows & Mistletoe - This is my first read by this author and it won't be my last. An enjoyable, clean story that is so heartwarming and delightful, it's perfect for Christmas, and every day of the year. The characters are sweet, loving, humble and well mannered. While the child is a large part of the story, his father is the perfect character. Full of consideration and manners, like men used to be, especially in the Deep South; what he had to conquer to open his heart is heartbreaking and inspiring.
The storylines are well written, interesting and realistic, as is the dialog. There is plenty of humor that adds depth to this beauty of this story. One thing had me rolling my eyes repeatedly is that there are three vehicles using the same fuel as the generator, but he was going to walk ten miles for more fuel. Dumb. This story goes so well with a cuppa and a furbaby, or just by itself. I contacted the author to review her book. 5*
This is another winner in the Well-Paired series. Tristan and Jenna never stopped loving each other after tragedy tore them apart. They are both decent, good-hearted people who have been through so much heartache. Each has tried moving on with their life but together was the only way to really put the past behind them and move on. Tristan is a swoon-worthy hero with a big heart. Jenna could have come across as pathetic but she is too strong of a character for that. I felt for both of them and was rooting for their HEA. I loved catching up with all the characters from the previous books.
I didn't give the book 5 stars for a couple of reasons. One reason is I felt there was too much unnecessary story before they finally got together at about the 73% mark. That alone wouldn't have brought it to 4 stars. The real problem for me is how quickly Jenna got over the last trauma. It took her 8 years to get to the point of forgiving Tristan buy she got over the big reveal in a matter of days. That felt false to me. IMO, it would have taken her a long time to come to grips with the truth.
I truly enjoyed the story and recommend reading Finding Our Way Back. Marianne Rice is an excellent author.
2.5 stars. I'm sorry, but I just can't round it up.
Is it bad I didn't like the heroine that much? She just kept on frustrating me with her constant self-pity mode. Also, poor Carter and Tristan. Jenna really did not treat either of them right. With Carter, it was like hmm, you're basically using him. He was so nice too. For her, it was like a safe territory. I didn't really mind how she treated Tristan throughout most of the book. It was just towards the end when I mean, I get it. The accident was tragic, especially for her. . I can't even imagine what that sort of loss feels like. But, it was just the self-pity mode and how Tristan, in the end, did not deserve to be treated or judged in that way. It was what made her, in my opinion, not that likeable. I did find her relationship with Jerry endearing, however. Becoming his caretaker helped her. I probably would've given it three stars if the epilogue was more satisfying.
