Holt Calson was born with an 11-figure spoon in his mouth to one of the wealthiest families in the world. The night we met, I only had 11 dollars in my purse, and it was all the money I had in the world. We were never supposed to meet, much less be together. But Holt didn't care. He just wanted me.
What Calsons want, Calsons get. And for one blazing summer, we had it all. Until….

I can't decide if I like Holt or hate him, but one thing was for sure the beginning of Holt and Sylvie's romance had me on the edge of my seat wanting more.

Why does the first Black Jamaican female character have to be so damn weird, religious, poor and uncool?? Like damn…. what a missed opportunity to have a badass snatched Caribbean character but instead we get this ridiculous trope…She’s a caricature and it’s so disappointing. Her mom is an emotionally abusive asshole. It’s unbelievable that Holt, a super rich white boy would give her the time of day. Also, her accent should be almost gone and slight. She’s been in Conn. way to long and immersed in the educational system to have that thick of an accent. I listened to the audiobook and it was painful. Jamaican accents are hard to do and she sounded like and old island elder…Very cringy.
similar to zahir and prin’s story, holt and sylvie met in the past as well. momentarily, they had a relationship together though it's pretty toxic, the couple were in love. after an accident, sylvie left and they only reunited many years later. now, their children are friends with one another and sylvie’s the only person who can calm down holt’s only son. brought together once again by their children, holt and sylvie have their second chance in romance. however, there’s a lot of hate fucking. holt still bears a grudge about the past, not knowing the full truth behind sylvie’s departure. the book is okay. quick, steamy, pretty dark.
Quick Summary: An "oh my darn" love to hate romance
My Review: Ruthless Scion by Theodora Taylor was an explosive read. I cannot even begin to speak on it. I'm stuck at the ending. What the happy is going on?!?
My Final Say: I am hooked. I have to know what comes next.
They loved each other but they weren't good for each other in the past. He had substance abuse issues and she enabled him. I fear I'm on the hunt for more books like that
The minute OI started reading this book, knew I had read it before 🤔, that didn’t stop me from keeping on reading it, it was a loooong time ago. Anyway, my friends it was nice to see Sylvie and Holt again. They are 🔥 On to the next one !!
I actually liked the story overall but it felt unnecessarily short, more a teaser for the next book than anything. I'm not sure how long the next one is but however long it is, it could probably be easily combined with this one to make a full book.
Holt is a billionaire who meets Sylvie at a party he's throwing at his penthouse. She thinks he's about to jump off his balcony like his mother did but he's really high off drugs and does the balcony thing regularly and isn't suicidal. Sylvie leaves Holt's place that night with her friend but dropped her purse in Holt's bedroom which gives him a way to find her. Holt spends a few weeks befriending Sylvie after getting her a job until their relationship is taken to the next level. Things seem to be going okay even though Sylvie's mom kicked her out for being fast like her sister, but Holt keeps her with him and eventually proposes marriage. Sylvie agrees but the next day, Holt is waking from an overdose and surrounded by his dad and doctor while Sylvie is nowhere to be found. Holt goes to find Sylvie at her mom's house but Sylvie wants nothing to do with Holt. No explanation why and no glimpse into the events of the night that Holt overdosed are given which leaves a gaping hole in the story which then fast forwards ten years. Holt has an 8 year old son and Sylvie is the mother of her sister's 10 year old son. Coincidentally, the two boys manage to become friends which is how Sylvie ends up back in Holt's household.
Tons of potential and I'd really like to know where the story goes from here but there just wasn't enough to elevate the stars in this one for me. The story skips too much, I was frustrated not knowing why Sylvie ran off, and couldn't understand why Sylvie's boyfriend Arturo was just okay to fire her. It was dissatisfying to get bits and pieces even though it's interesting.
This was a quick read. It has a few editing errors which messes up the flow of a sentence for me. It also ends on a cliffhanger which I'm not very fond of. It left me wondering whatever became of her father? And it was not really clear to me if her son was hers or if she adopted her sisters baby? Because if he was her sisters baby the timeline appears a little off to me. Also the reason behind Sylvie & Holts breakup confused me. Did she really not love him or is there more to the story? Hopefully I will discover these answers in Ruthless Billionaire.

This was a free short book that introduces readers to the origin story of Sylvie and Holt, who met when they were both young and kinda dumb. I enjoyed the read, but as with this author's other books, the editing could be better and plenty of missing words in dialogue etc that were frequent enough to mention. I thought Sylvie was an interesting character with her Jamaican background. I wasn't a huge fan of their insta love, and this is really just part one of their story, and is not a complete story on its own.
I loved this the first book, Ruthless Scion, in which Taylor introduced us to Sylvie and Holt. The two could not be more different. Sylvie is an over-protected, studious and poor Black Jamaican good girl. Holt is a richer than God, depressed, drug-addicted White boy.
I bought this when it first came out read the whole series, I don’t know what was going on but I didn’t leave a review then I am now. Wow 😯 is what’s going through my mind I don’t think Sylvia betrayed Holt. We you love someone the way she loved him you could never betray them. Hate sex is the best sex to have it is so intense and truthfully the opposite of hate is love. Again this is a great series headed to the sequel of this story.
I was worried in the beginning because Holt wasn’t what I was expecting of the male protagonist; he wasn’t Keane, Rock or Rashid from her other books, but he soon fell in line and became the alpha male Ms. Taylor is known for. I quickly bought the sequel and I am so looking forward to reading what happens next for Holt and Sylvie. Highly recommend so be patient, y’all.
I read this in Falling For The CEO and found that I already have this in my library. I enjoyed reading how Holt meets Sylvie and you learn what each one has to deal with in their owns lives and how their relationship is going. Then there is a situation that leaves a cliff hanger on what happened and then the story jumps forward 10 years and you learn what is happening in their lives and there is another cliff hanger so you have to get the next book Ruthless Billionaire to learn what happens.
If you’re ever feeling low or having a book drought, just dip into TT’s catalog. Holt and Sylvie’s story is a second chance romance between a millionaire scion and a second generation Jamaican immigrant. The two seem worlds apart but “they are…one.” It’s a beautiful despite employing a bit of romance trickery I hate, miscommunication.
Nope, don't like Ho!t because he is such an a$$. Very obtuse and hateful. Sylvie is too good for him and should have just walked away and left it alone I stead of letting him have his way with her. It makes her seem so weak. She could have a way to pay her tuition without giving in to him.
I love Ms Taylor’s books/ novels. I love how she makes her characters come to life. Like you’re right there with them, so many emotions. I’m not new to Ms T as an author so I have no excuse as to why I slept on Holt. I love their beginning so I most definitely have to get their end. This book is so good, it held me captive right from the start.
This was a super quick and good read, especially since it gave us a good back story on Holt and Sylvie's relashionship and how difficult and sometimes toxic it could be, especially since they were both young and because of family pressure that ended up splitting them up on bad terms.
At the end we have jumped 10 years in the future and they get their second chance when their kids connect on the resort she works at and he is visiting. Holt ends up making her basically no choice but to go work for him and we will see what happens between them and how/if they find their way back to eachother in a healthy way.
I enjoyed Holt and Slyvie’s story The author did a good job leading you to believe Barren wasn’t Holts child. Then when it is revealed he is the shock factor was that much more extreme I also love Barron and Wes’ friendship turned brother relationship

What an interesting story. There is much to discover in the final book, this time I knew it was two books, but the story is so interesting I don’t care.
These two, if only they had of been left to figure things out, but then again, it certainly seemed more like an obsession than a healthy relationship. Can’t wait to see how it works out in their conclusion story
