Rate this book
Dangerous secrets and treasonous crimes abound in this anticipated sequel to The Blood Vier.

A Secret Mission.

A Treasonous Crime.

A Kingdom Shattered by the Blade of Deceit.

After forgiving her father, Taryn is struggling over how to move forward. She has her mother's name, but no leads, and the mastermind behind her father's murder is still a mystery. When an attack prompts an international investigation, Taryn defies direct orders and trails the ambassadors to uncover the truth, but the mission raises more questions than answers, and a deadly dispute leaves Taryn fleeing for her life, threatened into silence and sworn to secrecy over the events that transpired.

In the capital, Vladimir is left to knit the pieces of the country back together while feeling the absence of everyone, but when a wrongful accusation condemns an innocent to death, he is forced to betray the Crown he swore to protect.

Caught between the warring sides of the Crown and Kavari, Taryn becomes the master of deception. As she weaves one lie into another to regain the Crown's trust, Vladimir does everything he can to heal the rift without bloodshed, but far darker forces twist them both into doing things they never imagined, including risking the fate of the kingdom—and the lives of the people they love.

Christy R. Harrill is the book loving and anything medieval fantasy obsessing author of the Blood Vier series. She lives in Oklahoma where she enjoys hiking with her dog Hank and devouring every book she possibly has time for. Christy loves winter, and still hopes to attain the dream of getting snowed in with four feet of snow one day. She thinks that the only good thing about summer is wearing sandals, and has a weakness for buying pretty notebooks—even though she already owns far too many blank ones at home.

What. Just. Happened.
This book…I have so many words and yet no order to put them in to give it proper justice!
This book was a wild ride from start to finish-just how I like my books honestly. The kind where you can’t put them down, where each chapter just slaps you and leaves you wondering if you know what this book is actually about!

VERY well written plot twists and spoilers, I can’t even begin to give it the right amount of praise. For me, a good book is one where I can’t see them coming. The plot twists, the cliffhangers, the character development or background. A GREAT book is one where I literally make a verbal outburst repeatedly or have to close the book and process the plot that just developed.

Also if you are looking for an awesome clean fiction read LOOK NO FURTHER. This series has been amazing and clean and I can recommend it to absolutely anyone.

Also if you are looking for something that’s mainly action, riddles, mystery and light romance, LOOK NO FURTHER. Because I mean geez woman, the romance is mystery as well. And it’s also got layers of realistic complications if that makes sense. As well as complex relationships and friendships between men and women (a concept that is not easily understood sometimes)

SPOILER ahead

The TITLE. Oh my lands I went into this book thinking that it would be about the same character because the first book’s title was about that character. Reading through I was expecting to find out something new about that character or see them do something new. But CHRISTY. Oh. My. Lands. CHRISTY. You did phenomenal, I mean that was just amazing. This is 110% one of my top favorite books for this title and plot twist combo.

Anyways, that is all. Buy this book. Buy the series. For yourself, for your kids. You will not be disappointed!

Book Review
The King Slayer by Christy Harrill
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Let me begin by saying The King Slayer is the sequel to The Blood Vier. My review of The Blood Vier can be found below.

The King Slayer has been my most anticipated ARC to receive and it did not disappoint. I prefer this book to the sequel because I am a drama loving girly obviously. However, I wholeheartedly recommend both to you because the mind of Christy Harrill is 🤌🤌.

This story is so beautifully written. The imagery is so descriptive and easy to follow. The author weaved in two very clear themes. The first being the title (of course.) The next is choices. Many of the character development surrounds choices. We,as a reader, can takeaway a message of everyone has choices.

The characters (swooning, crying, shook) have me invested. The cocky, smart mouth, golden hair Prince William remains my favorite but I'm going to stop there with him. Vladimir in this sequel hits hard. I believe Christy was able to fully develop his personality in the story. So, I wanted to note I see his loyalty, strategic brain, and his battle experience/skills. I'm here for it. I was so pleased seeing Taryn come out of damsel in distress era and become wiser. She is definitely learning how to play. She is becoming a force to be reckoned with.(Think Feyre in ACOMAF coming back to the Spring Court 😏.)

There is a small romance coming into play very sllllooowwwly. It's slow burn and it's works well. It's an enemies to lovers to enemies to bigger enemies to lovers. I think...well I hope. This little spark of romance is part of the character development, arc, and storylineIn conclusion, previously, I compared the first book to series like The Cursebreakers Series. I still stand behind the comparison. However, I would recommend to expect more politics. Do not worry its not written dully or dry but it's a major aspect. The Kavari is such a wonderfully thought out power. It plays such an important role in both books.

The King Slayer comes out March 21st. Please don't miss out on this one. I'll also probably have this book as a personality trait for awhile for sure.

P.s. it has short chapters 🥰

Thank you so so much to the author for sharing an ARC copy of this book with me !!!

“I closed my eyes, resting while I could, and waited for the sun to ride and reveal all that darkness had hidden”

“Then I had another enemy to search out. Another enemy to find - another enemy to kill”

“I have a message for the Crown”

I mean … book two in the Blood Vier series … I was looking forward to meeting these characters again and considering how we left things in book one … THE AUTHOR DELIVERED !!!!
I can safely say that this book didn’t suffered from the “book two syndrome”!!!
It was absolutely amazing in plot, action, political intrigues and PLOT TWIST !!!
Taryn and Vladimir will have to face more secrets, more betrayals and more fights in order to save those they love and avenge the memory of those who are gone.
I loved that we had a new povs and we got to know more about Katherine’s power and what it means to be a healer and being feared for her abilities.
I loved how characters’ dynamics developed this time around between Taryn and William especially (I won’t say anything more about it though ;) )
But more than anything else I am in awe of the way the author created this conflict happening between right and wrong and put the characters in a situation where they had to question and doubt their decisions while also trying to understand how many of them were because there was no other choice.
I truly adored how much the author highlighted the important of choices !!!!
AND THAT PLOT TWIST AT THE END OF THE BOOK !!!!
To be totally and completely honest with you, I’m still recovering from all that happened in the last 100 pages !!!!!
This is a quartet so I already knew that getting to the ending of this book would have been painful … BUT NOW I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK THREE !!!!

“I had never wanted this, never wanted bloodshed, but as swift as a flowing river, the blood was about to run”

"What happens to us in our lives is out of our control. We could no sooner dictate our circumstances than we could touch the stars. The only thing we possess control over in our lives is how we react to those circumstances. How we choose to respond to them.”

Things I loved:

The political intrigue is on point, just like the first one.

The characters are definitely not one dimensional! And for the most part I was rooting for them.

The writing is great. I can picture everything perfectly and the flow is there.

World building is also excellent.

Plot so far is making sense, it’s easy to follow, while still surprising me at times.

Things I didn’t love:

Where is the romance no one promised me, but for some reason I thought would be here???!

I wish there were a few light hearted moments sprinkled through out this book to give a bit of relief from all the political going-ons. At times it just felt heavy, and was hard for me to get motivated to keep reading. (If there were a few romantic moments or like found family moments I could of looked forward too, I think that would have helped balance it out for me)

I still don’t like Taryn seeing Death or Havlah but I part me is hoping that will be explained by book 4. Is there a reason? Is she actually there?

Taryn in the beginning almost made me stop reading, but she straighten up and became a character I loved again.

So this one is a three star for me, but mostly because of personal preference, not anything to do with the writing. I struggle with books without at least a small bit of romance.
Everything else about this book is pretty awesome.

Content: clean, no swearing, violence but does a good job of not making it graphic

THE KING SLAYER, sequel to THE BLOOD VIER, was absolutely devastatingly beautiful. The story picks up right after the end of TBV and I was immediately thrown back into all of the emotions, turmoil, and chaos that is this story. If there’s one thing that Christy can do right, and she does many things right, it is the fact that she writes politics so well. The political intrigue of this series, and in particular this book, were so well executed that I was left speechless on more than one occasion.

The character development in TKS also blew me away. The layers and depth that are created as a result of the story line are absolutely magnificent. I felt like Taryn and I got real close real fast, but the relationships with Vladimir, William, and Katherine were really well-executed as my immediate connection with Taryn was already super well established.

If you’re looking for a new YA fantasy series with political intrigue, shocking betrayals (AND I MEAN SHOCKING YOU GUYS), murder mystery, driven by strong characters… please pick up THE KING SLAYER and THE BLOOD VIER.

Thank you so much to Christy for sending me this ARC — I’m so honored to call you a friend of mine and I can’t wait to see this series take over the world.

This was full of twists and turns that I know will be just as good if not better on the reread. The set ups for assumptions and the delivery was amazing kudos for that. There are some pacing issues where it went super fast then some abrupt slowing that caused me to take longer than I normally would have when reading this book(also the book liked to hide from me at times after I put it down making it hard to find). That being said, I did enjoy it and enjoyed the improvement in craft from the last book. There were times I did want to throw this book across the room and shake/yell at the characters for being dumb asses. That though should tell you about the writer's abilities with writing believable characters and real struggles that a person of that age and experience could think and do.
I know who I'm shipping. I don't normally like love triangles but this is a great love triangle set up without it being shoved in the reader's face.

Thank you to the author for this ARC!! Couldn't wait to finish and leave a review for all who are awaiting this much-anticipated second installment.

Wow.  Just WOW.  I had high hopes that book 2 would answer a multitude of questions, give character resolution, and whet my appetite for more.  It did all that and MORE!  As I followed the twists and turns of each chapter, the author kept me engaged and focused moment by moment.  I may have even audibly gasped four or five (or six!) times as I ventured farther in the book.
The conversation between Vladimir and Taryn in chapter 60 reveals the heart of this series. Forgiveness vs bitterness, release vs revenge, the importance of personal choice to do what is RIGHT. Deep thoughts, yet something we all struggle with in life.
I won't give any spoilers but I will say- if you liked the Blood Vier, you will LOVE the King Slayer.

And I thought I couldn’t put the first book down… this book literally had my heart racing every time I had a chance to pick it up. I’ve never been one to skip to the end of the book just to see how it ends but with each chapter I faced the temptation to let my eyes skip ahead because I just could not stand not knowing!
So much intrigue, plot twists and.. I just can’t do this book justice in one review.
Get the book. Read the book. Try not to have a heart attack from all the anticipation.
I love it so much, literally telling all my fellow bookworm friends that if they haven’t read this series they need to NOW.

I really did enjoy this book, i loved the story and where it was heading. I didn’t expect most of the plot twists at all. I grew to love the characters even more than before, and i loved the tension between some. The end was really intriguing, i’m both excited to start the next book and scared. The only thing i didn’t like was how much backwards and fourth it was, for example they would leave and then return and leave and return to the main location. As well as the fact the main character always needs saving, and never defends herself. Of course, i love the love interest saving the main character, but i also enjoy the main character being able to hold their own.

4.75 ⭐️

Wow, this book has all the twists and turns! Just as I thought I knew where the book was headed, something happened that had me questioning everything. The clues were well placed so I only had a vague idea of how the book would end. All of the new information revealed in the third act completely shaked up the world, so I can’t wait to see how the characters respond in book 3. All of the main characters had better motives and felt more fleshed out than in the first book. I thought Taryn has grown a lot since we first met her. It was nice to see more of William’s inner emotions even if it was from Taryn’s perspective.

I was looking very much forward to the second book in the Blood Vier seriess, and it did not disappoint. The King Slayer took twists and turns that had my heart pounding, answered questions from the first book, while creating more mystery, and this author just left me wanting more! Like seriously! When does her next book come out!
The world and characters she has created are immersive, and it's easy to get swept away in the intricate story telling. Highly recommend The King Slayer. You won't be able to put it down!

Be prepared to never put this book down.
Christy R. Harril, once again, wrote a great book, The King Slayer, which is book two in the Blood Vier series. While reading this book you will think you know how it’s going to end but it keeps changingy and you can’t put it down. The vivid language instantly transported me into the book. I don’t really have negative criticism for this book, because over all it turned out great. If you love suspense and murder you should read this book!

I had the privilege of reading an advanced reader copy of this book. I laughed. I screamed. I threw the book across the room. I yelled at characters. I cried a little. Christy R. Harrill has given us a second masterpiece. Twists and turns, masterful writing, a story that pulls you in and holds you so tight you don't want to put it down, relatable characters. Buy the book. You won't be sorry!

I love everything about this series. I love the political intrigue. I love the characters. I love the themes. Everything about this series so far is utter perfection 😗👌🏼
Vladimir is my favorite character out of everybody. How much he cares about his people and his friends is beautiful.
I lowkey HATED William in this one. After what he did I felt like there would be no redeeming qualities. But we'll see how that plays out in the next book 🤷🏼‍♀️

~I was provided an eARC, opinions are my own~

I missed Taryn and Vlad, and the deceptions that make up the Blood Vier world. Christy weaves multiple stories and tricks and sneaky-sneak moments (along with a wee bit of romance, thank you very much) and there's so much going on idk how she kept track of it all BUT SHE FREAKING DID. it's excellence. it's tragedy. it's me speed reading because I need to know if my angsty children are going to be okay. And now I need book three.

Seeing how the second book isn't even out yet, I guess I'll resign myself to waiting. So patiently.
